Top 10 Countries with the Best Beaches

The Top Ten
1 France France, officially the French Republic, is a sovereign state comprising territory in western Europe and several overseas regions and territories. The European part of France, called metropolitan France, extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to more.

Lots of beaches along the Mediterranean sea, Atlantic Ocean.
But also Pacific Ocean, with the largest and most wonderful lagoon in the world: Bora-Bora. And so many other coral islands. And the famous New-Caledonia with the 3rd largest coral reef in the world.
And French Caribbean islands with many nice beaches.
Even in Indian Ocean with Mayotte and wonderful coral reefs, the Réunion etc..

No other European country can offer such beaches and surely few in the whole world.

I know that France has bora bora and new calidonia as well as some Caribbean islands, but just the continental part of France is amazing. Sure you could visit Paris, but you must visit the Mediterranean part of France. Nice, Cannes, French Riviera, so many nice beaches. On a side note, the beaches are crowded.

A lot of coast line, seas and oceans, isles in every ocean. All kind of beaches in only one country with some historical value like in Normandy.
So France is the best country for beaches.

We spent 3 months in New Caledonia (French territory), it's absolutely wonderful, beaches, landscape and people are just sumptuous.

2 Australia Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a sovereign country comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands. With an area of 7,617,930 square kilometres (2,941,300 sq mi), Australia is the largest country by area in Oceania and the world's sixth-largest country. Australia is the oldest, flattest, and driest inhabited continent, with the least fertile soils. It is a megadiverse country, and its size gives it a wide variety of landscapes and climates, with deserts in the centre, tropical rainforests in the north-east, and mountain ranges in the south-east.

Many different types of beautiful beaches can be found in Australia. Australia is a huge country with so much coastline. This means there are so many isolated, naturally beautiful and pristine beaches. There are also popular beaches closer to the cities like Bondi beach where you will often spot celebrities. Perhaps, the best aspect of Australian beaches is the sand. Its clean, soft, perfect for making sand sculptures, going barefoot on and lying down on. Or maybe it's the waves that is most appealing. They make the beach fun, great for surfing and catching waves. There is a reason why the stereotypical Australian is a surfer. There are also tropical beaches in the north with white sand and beautiful coral. Think of the great barrier reef Fraser Island. There are many vast beaches in Australia with rolling sand dunes and a large majority of australians live very close to them. When my relatives came to Australia from mediterranean Europe they could not believe the difference. When ...more

Australia has a wide variety of beaches that are extremely beautiful and exciting. If I want to go to the beach I can go any time I want! The nearest beach is only about fifteen minutes away and since most of the population is on the coast if you want to visit, you will be guaranteed to be a short distance from multiple beaches. Australian soil is rich in iron, that's why our sand is gold. "We've golden soil and wealth for toil! " We are girt by sea and have amazing beaches for everyone to share because of our small population so they are NOT crowded at all! It's clean and clear and doesn't smell. We have coral reefs and long wave beaches! We have beaches in the city and beaches in small towns. It's majestic.
And for the person who said that you get eaten by sharks, that's not true. Shark attacks are very unlikely and are even more uncommon in East Australia.
I <3 Australia

I'm a Kiwi and have to say Ozzy beaches are the best and I don't enjoy saying it. I've traveled around the world and keep going back. You may find a lovely beach here and there in other countries but not all.
You can swim all year, burn your feet on the sand but it's worth the trip.
The down side is you can't always swim when needed as there's stingers up north that can kill you. Fishing, surfing, diving is unreal. Topless beaches the lot.
Best Beaches easy. Nothing compares.
It's every beach also.

Australia has officially the whitest sand beaches in the world. It also beaches with amazing golden sand. Their beaches are spectacular and natural. Australia has great swimming and surfing beaches and beautiful clean waters. Australia also has the largest sand island in the world and its islands have the most gorgeous beaches you could ever see. Australia is the best kept secret for beach lovers. number 1 for sure. They are so beautiful and there are so many. If you want a beautiful city beach, a secluded untouched beach or a resort beach- you can't beat the land down under.

3 French Polynesia

Yes, for sure, hundreds of lagoons with coral reefs in this such unbelievable and wonderful Pacific Ocean.

4 Greece Greece, officially the Hellenic Republic, is a country in Southeast Europe. It is situated on the southern tip of the Balkans, and is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Greece shares land borders with Albania to the northwest, North Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey more.

No beaches in the world go close to Greece.
Places like the Maldives, Fiji and Hawaii rely on picture perfect days to get the right sunshine and low winds to take pictures for tourist mags, in Greece they are perfect crystal clear all the time.
Islands like Milos, Lefkada, Zakinthis, Koufonissi, Naousa, Paxi etc etc have better beaches than anywhere on earth and for those that believe Australia is better, remember this, dive off any boat offshore and you will either be eaten by a shark or attacked by a variety of other sea creatures like deadly jellyfish.

It's not only the incomparable beauty of the Greek beaches but it is also their accessibility. Greek beaches are not a beautiful carte postale! You can walk on them, lie on them, swim in them, no undercurrents, no sharks (! ), that is you can enjoy them with all your senses! They are real beaches, not just shores or simply coasts! All that on top of an amazingly balanced climate tolerable by everyone in its most extreme phases!

Greece has 6,000 islands and islets.. The waters in Greece are crystal clear, the colors can range from wine dark, to turquoise to emerald blue.. There are white, golden, red and black sand beaches.. Some are very shallow you can walk half a mile and still touch the ground.

Something from an other planet. An amazing range of different kind of beaches. Thousands of islands, some are rocky, some full of green, isolated beaches... Surely something for everyone. The Greek coast line is the longest in the European union.

5 Madagascar Madagascar, officially the Republic of Madagascar, and previously known as the Malagasy Republic, is an island country in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Southeast Africa.

Madagascar movie is a movie and the Country of Madagascar has nothing to do with this movie.

The movie is about the Central Park Zoo in New York and its animals, animals which are not living at all in this wonderful Madagascar Island.

Anyway, you know that, and I know some of beaches there really fantastic, this year 2015, I've just been in Italy, it's so dirty, ridiculous compared with so nice Madagascar.

Here you will find 20 times more beautiful beaches than a overrated country like Italy.

6 United Kingdom The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly shortened to United Kingdom, UK or Britain is a Sovereign State located of the Northwestern coast of Europe. Surprisingly, Scotland has crystal white sand beaches and beautiful turquoise sea up north. Hawaii counts as the U.S. so I am sure Bermuda, British Caribbean Islands and Gibraltar in Southern Spain should get a mention!

Yes, among one of the best beaches.
It's not because it's not sunny that the beaches are not beautiful.

Cornwall is absolutely stunning all you british lot fly of to foreign destinations when beautiful cornwall is just on your doorstep!

It is situated in the western Pacific Ocean and consists of around 7,641 islands that are broadly categorized under three main geographical divisions from north to south: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. more.

Philippines is the most beautiful country in the world, because its natural beauty is perfect. Visit Her and you will discover its mountainous land gifted with variety of animals and trees ; plus spring of water, like bay, beaches, coral reef shoal inhabited by thousand of marine life species. Philippines is a paradise because its land structure that surrounded by water is unequaled. The only problem is system of the government because the traditional corruption is out of control. These things cover the the natural beauty of the Philippines from the eyes of the world.

Philippines is definitely a heart-warming paradise. Palawan for me overall is the best island among the 7,107 islands of the Philippines. There lies one of the 7 Wonders of Nature, which is the Puerto Princesa Underground River. I have been there and the cave is awesome and exotic. With unique carvings of rocks inside it. Anyone who keeps in touch with nature will no doubt visit it again. The Philippines is a Southeast Asian country that lies near the equator. Hence, the temperature and the characteristics of the beaches around the Philippines are proportion to it. Boracay, Coron Island and Batanes (Northernmost Province of the Philippines south of Taiwan) are the sure win! Compare the Philippines to its different Asian neighbours. China, Taiwan, Laos, Brunei, Vietnam, Singapore, what are they? Grasslands and Industrial Plants. And among the few countries in Asia that offer this kind of beauty, the Philippines has it all! It could even sum up against Indonesia and Hainan (China). We ...more

The Philippines may be recognized by other countries as poor, but take a closer look at each one. Japan is advanced when it comes to technology, but agriculture is a problem there. Grasslands depleted due to the fact that Japanese turned it into powerhouses, storages and industrial plants. Look at the Western Province of the Philippines, Palawan, it is the province compromising 1,000 + islands of the Philippines overall of the 7.107 It supplies 15% of the country's oil amd gas deposits and is home to one if the seven wonders of nature. The Puerto Princesa Underground River. A messsage to all the foreigners out there: THE Philippines WILL RISE!

I had a laugh at the idiot below critisizing why Australia is number 1 and how he believes the Philippines reefs make other countries look like fish crap. Haha, what a uneducated tool, ever heard of the Great Barrier Reef, or perhaps the fact Australia has enough beaches that you couldn't visit them all in a lifetime. I went to Australia for a holiday once spent 7 months travelling the coastline, fact is no other country comes close to their beaches

8 United States The United States of America, or the U.S.A. for short, is a federal republic composed of 50 states, 48 of them are contiguous states. Hawaii, California, Florida, Alabama, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands all have amazing and beautiful beaches, and there is a lot of diversity among the beaches. Isolated wilderness beaches, exciting beaches with piers and boardwalks, white-sand beaches, black-sand beaches, beaches with cliffs, beaches with dunes and more. Almost all beaches are public throughout the country, and there is great weather year-round in the tropical parts of the country. In the summer even the colder parts have incredible and scenic sandy beaches. The variety and quantity of beaches is unbeatable.

USA has absolutely beautiful beaches! The surf at all of Americas beaches are phenomenal and smooth. Hawaii has defiantly the best beaches out of all the United States, meaning the best of the world.

America has great beaches, especially in the warmer states. My grandparents live in Florida, so we travel there sometimes. The beaches are beautiful!

Some people are saying because the Usa has Hawaii that the Usa has the best beaches. Honolulu imports sand from Australia.

9 Mexico Mexico, officially the United Mexican States, is a federal republic located in North America. The country is located between the U.S. and Central America, and is known for its Pacific and Gulf of Mexico beaches and its diverse landscape of mountains, deserts, and jungles.

The beaches in Mexico are fantastic. Best in the world: beautiful sand, crystal clear water, gorgeous sea life; great for relaxing, swimming, water sports, eating and excellent atmosphere. I highly recommend Mexico.

Beyond Cancun, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta and all the other famous resort towns, Mexico's got beaches that defy the imagination. They could be in a desert, a tropical rainforest, marshes, cliffs, next to lagoons or even "underground" (Marieta). If you like warm water temperature too, then you're gonna really like Mexico.

Mexico's beaches are all completely unique and beautiful. They are the perfect places to relax or to have fun! Either if you go to a touristic beach or to a little beach, they are absolutely amazing.

Some Mexican beaches can combine beauty and magic Mysticism ancient cultures, and warm water to achieve a perfect relax...

The largest part of Spain is situated on the Iberian Peninsula; its territory also includes the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, and several minor overseas territories also scattered along the Moroccan coast of the Alboran Sea. The country's mainland is bordered to the south by Gibraltar; to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea; to the north by France, Andorra and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean.

Seriously France and... Germany? Above Spain? Whoever wrote this has never been to Spain, or Germany... Spain is the country with more number of blue flag beaches in the world. It should definitely be on the top 3. By the way, is there any 'real beach' in Germany?

Just here at Hawaii we have more beautiful beaches than Spainand that in a real Ocean: Pacific one, not this ridiculous Mediterranean sea.

Cold water and brown water evrywhere; only in Italy there are the best beaches of the world, for that reason all Spanish, German, Belgium, frecnh, america, Australian, Russian, Asia, arab... Are coming in Italy.

Seriously, why Spain is not at the top of the list is a mystery.

The Contenders

This is well wrong voting Brazil 9th it has tons of beaches for example florinopolis island in south Brazil has 42 beaches on it's own. Brazil also can claim the whitest sand in the world fact maranhao look it up amazing place...

Australia? Are you kidding me? This must be a joke, right? Brazil should be number 1 hands down... Brazil all the way!

Brazil should be number one! US has nothing, Greece has few, only competition for Brazil is Australia, but even they aren't better

Australia? Sure of you want to get eaten by sharks. Brazil is so much better times better.

It lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India, about 750 kilometres (470 miles; 400 nautical miles) from the Asian continent's mainland. The chain of 26 atolls stretches from more.

Maldives has the best beaches in the whole world. With crystal clear waters and pearly white sand. I don't understand why Maldives has such a low ranking in this, it ought to be at the top!

Well not a question about being large, since this is a small country, but the beaches are marvelous.

Beautiful island with beautiful beaches!

15 Germany Germany was formally united in 1871 under the initiative of Bismarck with King Wilhelm of Prussia as emperor. The previous 'Holy Roman Empire', basically a continuation of the empire of Charlemagne/Karl der Grosse was dissolved in 1806. more.

Germany's North Sea islands are blessed with gloriously long beaches and unique natural surroundings. Located in the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea, the islands have a bracing climate that makes them perfect for recreational and active breaks. Fantastic accommodation, top-class cuisine and major sporting events are the icing on the cake.

And also some other ones places in North Sea as well as Baltic Sea.

Germany? For sure, a beautiful beach does not mean necessarily sun and crystal water. Beach means beauty of the beach itself: Landscape, size, sand, rocks, atmosphere, environment, changing sky, climate magnifying sites etc...
For those reasons Germany deserves to be in the top 10, nevertheless the negative comments from always the same kind of people.

Germany top 10? Are you kidding me?

The beaches are cold

18 Sri Lanka Sri Lanka, officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and known from the beginning of British colonial rule until 1972 as Ceylon, is an island country in South Asia near south-east India.

The climate is great. If you are a beach person Srilanka would be the best place, they have the best beaches in the world for surfers with golden sand beaches and coral reefs (when I went there a giant tortoise came to beach and we even got to pet it) the beaches in the east of the country are wave less!, whale and dolphin watching are also popular in some seasons

If you want crystal blue beaches you have to go Sardinia, its like the Caribbean in Europe. I don't understand how people like beaches with buildings right beside it... Like they do in Spain. You can't relax there with all the traffic noise and people. Beaches are supposed to be away from urban areas. The harder it is to get to the beach the better...

You have not seen any beautiful beaches if you've never seen Sardinia yet.

Sardinia offers a large variety of coastal landscapes, sandy and rocky beaches lapped by sea water with different shades of color. Lot of parts of the coast are still wild and very little crowded

No Ocean in Italy and difficult to find a non private beach, the rest are really dirty sand, rocks and water as well.
Compared to some Ocean areas; it's zero.
You don't go in Italy for beaches but for ruins.

Just here at Hawaii we have more beautiful beaches than Italy and Spain together and that in a real Ocean: Pacific one, not this ridiculous Mediterranean sea.

24 Dominican Republic The Dominican Republic is a sovereign state occupying the Eastern two thirds of the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region.

I go to the beach here and the water is so clear that I can see these transparent fish and everything is so clean! Definitely should too this chart!

Dominican Republic should be number 1, the one that wrote this has never come to the Dominican Republic.

Dominicans Republic have the best beaches... The food there, the beds in the water, the beautiful palm trees and etc. it should be #1.

Stunning beaches with kind people and are all around the country

25 Canada Canada is a country in North America that is next to the United States, and it's the 2nd largest country in the world by area (size is 9.985 million km²). This country has 10 provinces, and 3 territories. Canada became a dominion on July 1, 1867. Its 10 provinces are: Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Its 3 territories are: Yukon, Northwest territories, and Nunavut. Toronto, Quebec City, Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg, St. John's, and Fredericton are major cities in the country. Canada's capital city, Ottawa, is in the southeastern province of Ontario, near the city of Montreal more.

With the worlds longest coastline and most freshwater, Canada has thousands of beaches. Although you can't swim in the winter, the summer is amazing for beaches. Wasaga beach Ontario is the longest freshwater beach in the world and has over 2 million visitors yearly. The west coast of Vancouver island is amazing for beaches. Long beach because is an amazing surf spot even if there is the odd orca or seal swimming. The pei east coast has a strange squeaky sand beach and pei also has red sand beaches. But the best beaches are on the "Iles de la madeleines", off the coast of pei but part of Quebec. The beaches here need more recognition because they are better than even the Bahamas beaches. Canada is the new beach destination!

What the hell, jeez we are underrated... we have the world's longest coastline. In Prince Edward Island the beaches can be white, gold and velvet red! Our water can be warm, like in Vancouver island where the water never freezes. If the ocean is not your thing head to a lake, we have thousands of them. In the okanagan, head to skaha beach where the water is warm and it is hot (like 38 degrees Celsius). Or head to Lake Erie were the sand can be colorful and pure white! We are so damn underrated.

We need more votes! Please! I know Canada may seem like a winter land but we got beaches! The madgellen islands of Quebec are the best. These islands are remote and not crowded. Please vote. I will go as far as saying Canada has better beaches than the Caribbean. Prince Edward Island, because, Nova Scotia, madgellen islands, New Brunswick and even The Great Lakes in Ontario need all more recognition for their beaches.

Canada has beautiful beaches with sometimes even pink and purple sand! (This can be found in port Stanley by Lake Erie). Beautiful shells and stones can be found along the shores. The beaches are amazing!
