Top Ten Most Overrated Female Singers on TheTopTens

I was going to do it as all overrated singers, but who am I kidding? Female singers are my specialty! Many of these are artists that I either like or love, but not all.
I'm probably going to wish I put a few artists on here that I left off eventually.

The Top Ten Most Overrated Female Singers on TheTopTens

1 Beyoncé Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, is an American singer and actress, who started out in the popular pop/r&b girl group Destiny's Child. They had multiple top 5 hits such as "No, No, No", "Say My Name", "Bills, Bills, Bills", "Survivor", "Independent Women", "Bootylicious", and "Jumpin', Jumpin" from more.

Beyonce is a good singer and has put some good songs out in the past, but she is definitely the most overrated artist of the 2010s. Every time she releases an album it receives universal acclaim from critics and wins a bunch of awards, but honestly it's not good music. Lemonade for instance, had a few good songs but nothing comparable to Halo, Single Ladies, Crazy in Love, etc... All critics truly care about these days is how much bass or special effects there are so their stoned minds can justify the modern music industry's lack of quality music. - cyrusthegreat

I feel this is almost affirmative action, everybody afraid to say the tramp is not a good vocalist. I don't care how many black women I piss off, she is not a good singer, poor breathe control and an empty voice. Jennifer Hudson was not perfect, but she gave me goosebumps with I am telling you, Beyonce makes me grind my teeth. She is just a commercial product, with no depth, real singing talent or uniqueness. She is easily replaceable.

Worst singer of all time!

Carlos Santana nailed it perfectly when he said Adele was a singer, but Beyoncé was just a performance artist. The truth hurts.

2 Taylor Swift Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer-songwriter. more.

Alright, I've liked Taylor for a while. I love 1989, it's a phenomenal pop record. But for Christ's sake, her voice is weak in so many areas. Her low range is surprisingly strong but her belts are thin and she has yet to demonstrate any technically challenging feats like melisma, extended notes, riffs and runs, etc. Plus, she has poor breath control when she's live and cannot sing without a warm up. I'm not knocking Taylor on all grounds, I think she's a great songwriter. But she's just not that great a vocalist. But I do love quite a few of her songs. - theOpinionatedOne

She is the world's second-best selling artist of the 2010's, only behind Adele, do you think she really cares if she is considered overrated on some obscure list made by some obscure poster.

3 Britney Spears Britney Jean Spears (born December 2, 1981) is an American singer and actress who was born in McComb, Mississippi, and grew up in Kentwood, Louisiana. She performed acting roles in stage productions and television shows like "The Mickey Mouse Club" as a child before signing with Jive Records in 1997 more.

I am very baffled by people who actually believe that she is a great singer. I admit it, I am a lite Britney fan, myself. Her music is very good. (Let me repeat that) HER *MUSIC* is very good. Do you catch what I'm getting at? She has some of the best-produced music today, but GOOD *MUSIC* DOES NOT MEAN GOOD *SINGER*! A good performer does not equal a good singer, either! I feel like a lot of TopTenners who Stan her fail to see the difference. So here are the reasons why Britney Spears is on this list
1. Her songs are bathed in autotune. This goes beyond Britney, but the next reason should explain the difference.
2. She lip-syncs A LOT! The autotune would be less of an issue if she actually demonstrated the ability to sing her songs live, without any playback.
3. She doesn't use her real voice. That nasal, baby voice that we've all endeared ourselves a farce! During the recording of her first album, her label (Jive Records) told her to sing in that baby voice because ...more - theOpinionatedOne

4 Selena Gomez Selena Marie Gomez is an American actress and singer. She is best known for songs like "Come & Get It", "Good For You", "Same Old Love", and "It Ain't Me". Selena Gomez's voice is mezzo-soprano but she usually sings in alto. She is best known for her role as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place.

I...there's really not much that I can say about her that won't come across as mean or harsh. I'll keep it to a minimum. Her voice has no distinctive qualities to it. She has pretty bland music with an occasional song that's above average (like "The Heart Wants What It Wants") but she just isn't that good. That's all I'm saying. - theOpinionatedOne

A lot like Beyoncé, she is not really a singer, just an entertainer. At least Beyonce can dance.

Sorry if I sound rude but seriously I am so sick of her.She can't sing, her live performances(more like whisper or lipaync) are sucks. But if she come up with new single all reporter are like "only Selena & Selena" Why man? Is everyone died except her? Chester died but reporter busy talking about her new relation life with The Weekend. If she cry during performances she crying for justin,if Justin mad or sad about something it's must be about Selena,is her new single about her ex blah blah blah.Stop! I'm tired.

5 Jackie Evancho Jacqueline Marie "Jackie" Evancho (born April 9, 2000) is an American classical crossover singer who gained wide recognition at an early age and, since 2009, has issued an EP and seven albums, including a platinum and gold album and three Billboard 200 top 10 debuts. Evancho's 2017 album, Two Hearts, more.

So sick of seeing this girl's face on the top of so many lists she's featured on! She's not Sarah Brightman. She's a beautiful, talented singer who gets WAY more clout than is warranted by people on this website. The thing I see most people mention when they praise her is her young age...she won't be young forever! A lot of young people can sing, perhaps not as well as her at that age but a lot of young people can sing. Stevie Wonder had a #1 song when he was 13. I can confidently say, Jackie Evancho will never have a song reach #1 on a national all-genre chart. This is not hateful, this is honesty. I respect your opinion if you see it differently but she is very overrated here. - theOpinionatedOne

This is one where the context is important overall she definitely isn't overrated. - Powell

I have nothing against Jackie personally, I don't know her nor am I ever likely to meet her. She does have an incredible voice. The reason she is overrated isn't so much that there are so many lists about her than what is said on those lists. She's sweet, she's a normal teenager, she has a kind heart, like they all know her personally. That's not fandom, that is obsession unless you all do know her personally. And frankly, her personality has nothing to do with her singing ability.

I don't thnk that Jackie Evancho is overrated, she is very sweet.

Very overrated because in reality she's boring and annoying to hear.

6 Katy Perry Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, professionally known by her stage name Katy Perry, was born on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. She is a singer, songwriter, actress and an ambassador on one of the most popular companies of now, UNICEF. more.

With Taylor comes her rival. Neither Taylor nor Katy Perry are stellar vocalists yet I see both rank highly in many singer/voice related lists. I imagine this is because of young tweenagers who don't know any better or haven't ventured far beyond the realm of Top 40 artists. I'll be honest, in 2008 I was totally obsessed with her. "I Kissed a Girl" was my jam and I'd light up every time it came on the radio. I was once very into Katy Perry, I still have her first two albums. But she's just another pop star with an average voice and sometimes good music. There are many far better singers in the world than Katy Perry. - theOpinionatedOne

7 Adele Adele Laurie Blue Adkins is an English singer and songwriter. Graduating from the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in 2006, Adele was given a recording contract by XL Recordings after a friend posted her demo on Myspace the same year. She is best known with her international hit singles more.

I LOVE ADELE! DO NOT GET ME WRONG ABOUT THAT! But she ranks very highly in many lists when she is not necessarily deserving of such a high position. For instance on Best Songs of 2015, "Hello" (as of December, 2016) is #1. It is a great song, don't get me wrong but there are other better songs from that year. And she's within the top ten on Best Female Singers of All Time. She's probably top 20 worthy but I'm not sure she's top 10 material. This is a tough one; unlike the first 6, Adele is a singer I actually LOVE. - theOpinionatedOne

8 Madonna Madonna Louise Ciccone, known professionally as Madonna, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. She influenced a lot of singers such as: Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Beyonce Knowles and Britney Spears. She is known as Queen of Pop and at modern pop culture specifically more.

Y'all are probably thinking: "Whaaat! He loves Madonna! But he put her on this list? "
Let me explain. It's true that I love Madonna and I always will. In all honesty, I think she's a bit underrated as a vocalist by most people. But I do think she's ranked a bit higher than she should be on the "best singers" type lists. Like Britney, she has great music and unlike Britney, she can take credit for the vast majority of it. But again, I think people sometimes fail to separate good music or good performance from actual vocal ability. She is an underrated vocalist, she's not a spectacular one. Regardless, I love her! - theOpinionatedOne

9 Avril Lavigne Avril Ramona Lavigne is a Canadian–French singer-songwriter and actress. By the age of 15, she had appeared on stage with Shania Twain; by 16, she had signed a two-album recording contract with Arista Records worth more than $2 million.

Avril is a good singer. I'm not particularly into her music but she does have a unique-ish voice that can sometimes surprise you but she's not top 20 material, not even top 50 and she tends to rank highly on the lists she's featured on. - theOpinionatedOne

10 Carrie Underwood Carrie Marie Underwood is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of American Idol, in 2005. Her debut album, Some Hearts, was released in 2005.

So is every modern singer.

The Contenders

11 Rihanna Robyn Rihanna Fenty is a Barbadian-American pop singer. Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, she first entered the music industry by recording demo tapes under the direction of record producer Evan Rogers in 2003. She ultimately signed a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings after auditioning more.

Rihanna is 50/50. She can be good but sometimes she's very shout-y almost. She has a very unique and lovely tone but doesn't always use it to her best advantage. Again, I think this is a generational thing. There's a lot of young people on here who don't know a wide variety of singers. No hate on RiRi, I like some of her songs and sometimes I genuinely love her voice. But is she overrated on TheTopTens? Absolutely. - theOpinionatedOne

Must have been a glitch when I was typing that or something...I can't even remember what I was trying to say now. Oh well. - theOpinionatedOne
