Best Hungarian Poets
In Hungarian, native poets seem much more talented than the famous international ones (Poe, Goethe), I think translation takes away a lot from the charm of their work. Also, some Hungarian poets who mainly write about the history and landscape are somewhat unrelatable for froeigners. He's not one of them: I think Kosztolányi's works can be enjoyed in any country when having a good translator, more than any other Hungarian poet's. You don't have to know anything about our culture, history or customs in order to experience his art.
He's not onerous or tiring to read (unlike #6 Babits or Homer), but at the same time he is still artistic. One can just chat, tweet about his poems, while they are about really serious topics.
He's not an artist
He's possibly the best-known poet of Hungary, but I would not recommend him first for a foreigner. His poetry needs some national emotion and identity to appreciate.
