Top 10 Best Bible Stories

Some stories do more than fill a page. They challenge you, comfort you, and occasionally make you wonder how anyone survived a world with this many deserts, kings, miracles, and questionable life choices.

  1. Parable of the Good Samaritan

    Jesus tells of a man who's attacked by robbers and left injured on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho. A priest and a Levite pass by without helping, while a Samaritan stops, treats the man's wounds, and pays for his care. Jesus uses the story to answer a question about who should be considered a neighbor.

    Well done for crowning this. Much deserved!

  2. Three in a Fire

    Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse to worship King Nebuchadnezzar's golden image. They are thrown into a blazing furnace, where a fourth figure appears with them and they are not harmed. Nebuchadnezzar calls them out and acknowledges the God who delivered them.

    I would say 4 in the Fire, not three, because actually, according to Scripture, it did say that he said, Look! I see four men in the fire, and one of them looks like God!

    At first, Nebuchadnezzar threw 3 boys into the fiery furnace (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego). Then Nebuchadnezzar came near the furnace and actually found that there were four in the fiery furnace.

    This story is just a wonderful miracle from God, such an amazing miracle seen in a fiery furnace! I can say, what a miracle God did.

  3. Moses

    Moses is born in Egypt at a time when Hebrew male infants are being killed, and he is raised in Pharaoh's household after being found in the Nile. God later calls him from a burning bush to lead the Israelites out of slavery. Moses confronts Pharaoh, leads the people through the Red Sea, receives the law at Mount Sinai, and guides Israel through the wilderness.

    The reason I read the Bible a second time, and I'm not even Christian. If God did create the Bible, he knows how to write a good book.

  4. Jonah

    God commands Jonah to go to Nineveh, but Jonah boards a ship in the opposite direction. After a storm, Jonah is thrown into the sea, swallowed by a great fish, and later sent again to deliver God's message. The people of Nineveh repent, and Jonah struggles with God's mercy toward them.

  5. The Widow's Mite

    Jesus observes people placing offerings into the temple treasury. A poor widow gives two small coins, while others give larger amounts from their wealth. Jesus explains that the widow has given more because she gave all she had to live on.

  6. Judgment of Solomon

    Two women come before King Solomon, each claiming to be the mother of the same living child. Solomon orders that the child be divided, prompting the true mother to plead that the baby be given to the other woman. Solomon identifies the woman who tried to save the child as the real mother.

  7. Ananias and Sapphira

    Ananias and Sapphira sell property and keep back part of the proceeds while claiming to have given the full amount. Peter confronts Ananias first, and Ananias dies after hearing that he has lied to God. Sapphira later repeats the lie and also dies.

  8. Zacchaeus

    Zacchaeus, a wealthy chief tax collector in Jericho, climbs a sycamore tree to see Jesus. Jesus calls him down and goes to his house, which draws criticism from others. Zacchaeus promises to give to the poor and repay those he has defrauded, and Jesus declares that salvation has come to his house.

    Jesus is arrested, tried, and sentenced to crucifixion under Roman authority. He dies on the cross and is buried in a tomb. On the third day, his followers find the tomb empty, and the risen Jesus appears to his disciples.

    Jesus describes himself as the good shepherd who knows his sheep and is known by them. He contrasts the shepherd with a hired hand who abandons the sheep when danger comes. Jesus says the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

    Daniel continues praying to God after a royal decree forbids petitions to anyone except the king. He is thrown into a den of lions as punishment. God sends an angel to shut the lions' mouths, and Daniel is brought out unharmed.

    Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel to show whose deity will answer by fire. The prophets of Baal call out and receive no answer, while Elijah prepares an altar to the Lord. Fire falls on Elijah's sacrifice, and the people acknowledge the Lord as God.

    God tells Noah to build an ark because a flood will cover the earth. Noah brings his family and animals into the ark, and the floodwaters destroy life outside it. After the waters recede, God makes a covenant with Noah and gives the rainbow as a sign.

    Job is a righteous man who loses his children, wealth, and health after Satan challenges the sincerity of his faith. His friends argue that his suffering must be the result of sin, while Job maintains his innocence and questions his situation. God speaks to Job, and Job's fortunes are later restored.

    God places Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and commands them not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The serpent persuades Eve to eat the fruit, and Adam also eats it. God confronts them, pronounces consequences, and sends them out of the garden.

  18. Binding of Isaac

    God tests Abraham by telling him to take his son Isaac to Mount Moriah and offer him as a sacrifice. Abraham prepares to obey, but an angel stops him before Isaac is harmed. A ram is provided as a substitute offering.

    Jacob leaves his family and stops for the night, using a stone as a pillow. He dreams of a ladder or stairway reaching from earth to heaven, with angels ascending and descending on it. God speaks to Jacob, repeats covenant promises, and Jacob names the place Bethel.

  20. Joshua and the Fall of Jericho

    Joshua leads the Israelites to the city of Jericho after they enter Canaan. God instructs them to march around the city for seven days, with priests carrying trumpets and the ark. On the seventh day, the people shout, the walls fall, and the Israelites take the city.

  21. David and Goliath

    Goliath, a Philistine champion, challenges the army of Israel. David, a young shepherd, confronts him with a sling and stones instead of Saul's armor. David strikes Goliath in the forehead with a stone and defeats him.

  22. Joseph and His Brothers

    Joseph is favored by his father Jacob, and his brothers sell him into slavery after becoming jealous of him. Joseph is taken to Egypt, where he rises to power after interpreting Pharaoh's dreams. During a famine, his brothers come to Egypt for food, and Joseph eventually reveals his identity and provides for his family.

  23. Anointing at Bethany

    A woman anoints Jesus with costly perfume while he is at Bethany. Some present object that the perfume could have been sold and the money given to the poor. Jesus says she has prepared his body for burial and that her act will be remembered wherever the gospel is preached.

  24. Birth of Jesus

    Mary gives birth to Jesus in Bethlehem during the time of a Roman census. Because there isn't room available, the child is laid in a manger. Angels announce the birth to shepherds, who go to see the child and then report what they've heard.

  25. Jerusalem Has Fallen

    The Babylonian army captures Jerusalem after a siege during the reign of King Zedekiah. The temple is burned, the city walls are broken down, and many people are taken into exile. The fall marks the destruction of the kingdom of Judah and the beginning of the Babylonian exile.

  26. The Tower of Babel

    People settle in the land of Shinar and begin building a city with a tower reaching toward heaven. God sees their plan and confuses their language. The people are scattered over the earth, and the city is called Babel.
