Best Rock Songs of the 2000s
-
Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day
Any song from American Idiot could be in the top ten, but there really have been many good rock songs since 2000. Examples like Last Resort, Numb, Chop Suey, The Pretender, and Prayer of the Refugee make it hard to pick, but I chose Boulevard of Broken Dreams because I saw Green Day live, and they were insanely good!
If I become president of a country, I will make this song the national anthem.
This song really touched my heart.
One of the greatest pieces of rock music ever made!
One of the best from Green Day.
-
Chop Suey - System of a Down
Easily the best rock track, and song, of the decade - from the best rock album of arguably the '80s, '90s, and '00s. Impeccable and actually improves as it goes on, which is pretty rare for modern music.
The ending chorus is heartbreaking, soaring, scorching, and utterly empathetic, striking an elegiac tone while delivering a riveting conclusion.
The ending of this song is so angelic and graceful, but so raw and powerful at the same time. This is a song that cannot be topped. It will always be my favorite.
Most important metal song of the 21st century. Five is a high spot, but this was so iconic and deserves to be in the top three.
-
Bring Me To Life - Evanescence
No other song can take its place. It is my favorite song of all time. It is so nicely sung. All credit goes to Evanescence. I play it over and over again.
A real masterpiece. Thanks, Evanescence, for creating such a perfect song.
Best song. She sings so beautifully, and the backup singer is hardcore.
-
In the End - Linkin Park
My favorite band, album, and its most catchy song. The perfect song to end a bad day!
I grew up listening to it, and it was probably the first rock song I ever listened to.
-
The Diary of Jane - Breaking Benjamin
Awesome song! You have to listen to this. Also, try to get your hands on Dance with the Devil. This is one of the best rock groups ever.
This... This got me hooked on rock!
Loved it straightaway. Beautiful!
One of the best melodic hard rock songs ever devised!
-
Last Resort - Papa Roach
It sounds so awesome. The lyrics mean something that many people can relate to, and the background riff at the beginning is so great.
Cut my life into pieces, this is my...
-
Headstrong - Trapt
It's a great song. I love when he pauses and then screams.
-
Tears Don't Fall - Bullet for My Valentine
-
The Pretender - Foo Fighters
-
Snuff - Slipknot
This should not only top this list but every list about songs.
-
?
Yellow - Coldplay
-
?
The Wicker Man - Iron Maiden
-
Seven Nation Army - White Stripes
A classic rock song. Absolutely brilliant riff, groovy vocals, and psychedelic drumming. This song deserves to be number one.
Should be number 1. The guitar tunes rock.
-
Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace
Despite how overrated this song is, it's worthy of at least 6th or 4th place. It's a strong song about drug addiction and, in my opinion, deserves to be a bit higher than 12th.
It was a difficult decision between What I've Done and Animal I Have Become, but I chose this one because it felt more personal and deep than the others. Brilliant song.
Three Days Grace is a purely inspirational band that plays and sings about life. Amazing band, love Adam and Barry and everyone else. This song really rocks. Give it a listen for sure, and check out some of their other songs!
-
Numb - Linkin Park
Even though I would vote for Boulevard of Broken Dreams as number one, it is less of a modern rock song than Numb is. Numb was Linkin Park's greatest hit and has reattracted masses to rock music more than any other song on this list.
This is the best song by Linkin Park! I just can't believe that it is in the 31st position! It should be on the top! Linkin Park rocks!
It's the greatest! Come on, guys! Listen to it before voting!
-
Uprising - Muse
-
It's My Life - Bon Jovi
This not only brought Bon Jovi a younger audience and a new decade of success, but it also defined the 2000s decade.
This song rocks! It's my third or fourth favorite song.
A defining song of the rock genre of the time!
-
Prayer of the Refugee - Rise Against
Awesome song. Everything about it is awesome, from the vocals to the beat and, most surprisingly (though not for this band), the meaning.
The beauty of this song lies not in the beat or the vocals (though they are still awesome) but in the recognition they give to people. This really deserves to be at the number one spot.
-
Breaking the Habit - Linkin Park
Six Linkin Park songs on this list just add to the band's legacy. Breaking the Habit is amazing live. The great lyrics and sound showcase the band's talent. It definitely led them into their new sound.
Awesome lyrics. It's something you will keep reciting long after you finish listening. Everything is just brilliant. There is no one to compete with Linkin Park.
This is artistically better than Chop Suey, and everyone knows it.
-
How You Remind Me - Nickelback
Incredible breakthrough song from an incredible band. Summed up 2000s rock music perfectly.
This is one of the most amazing songs of the 2000s. I wonder why it's 21st.
-
Mr. Brightside - The Killers
One of the best songs from a band that is STILL RELEVANT today. Almost every band higher than this song is nothing. The Killers have a unique sound that makes them different from any other band. Compare that to these bands (except for Bon Jovi). Listen to these bands, and they sound alike. The Killers are so criminally underrated.
This is one of the first songs I learned to play on drums and is the first song I learned on bass. I still listen to it on a weekly basis.
-
No One Knows - Queens of the Stone Age
Awesome band, especially with Dave Grohl on drums!
-
By the Way - Red Hot Chili Peppers
-
Somewhere I Belong - Linkin Park
Definitely one of the best of the 2000s.
-
Hoppipolla - Sigur RÓS
Not only is this the greatest song of the 2000s, but they are the greatest band since the mid-'90s. They never released a bad album, let alone a bad song. They always innovate and find a way to change the game.
Most people are close-minded when listening to foreign bands just because they can't understand the lyrics. But music speaks louder than words, and "Hoppipolla" did that single-handedly for the 2000s. It inspired and gave hope to its listeners. Simple but beautiful. That's what makes a song great. And it's even greater when they do it in a foreign language the rest of the world won't understand, but only through the music.

Give Me a Sign - Breaking Benjamin
-
Toxicity - System of a Down
