Greatest Classic Rock Songs by Great Bands
-
When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin
Most memorable drum beat ever
-
A Day In the Life - The Beatles
The true testament to The Beatles' genius: John Lennon and Paul McCartney's combination of great songwriting, a classy production by George Martin, and, not to mention, one of Ringo Starr's best drum performances ever. The best song on Sgt. Pepper, an album of AMAZING songs.
"Woke up! Got outta bed! Dragged a comb across my head. Found my way down stairs and drank a cup. And looking up, I noticed I was late! *Gasp* *Gasp* *Gasp* Found my coat, and grabbed my hat. Made the bus, in seconds flat! Found my way upstairs and had a smoke! When somebody spoke, I went into a dream."
Is my favorite part of this masterpiece.
-
Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones
-
Echoes - Pink Floyd
I'm listening to this song right now, so I kinda had to vote for it. Plus it's my favorite Pink Floyd song.
Arguably the best song by the greatest band of them all...
Easily one of the best progressive rock songs
-
Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits
Mark Knopflers licks and solos accompanied with the riff makes this a really great song
-
Baba O'Riley - The Who
Although "Won't Get Fooled Again" is slightly better, this is still a great song, with a cool synthesizer intro and a great performance by the entire band.
One of THE BEST songs I've heard. The Who did an awesome job on this one. Memorable guitar, and name five other rock songs that have a violin solo! Great!
-
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
-
Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits
-
Come Together - The Beatles
A classic John groove paired with some interesting (and cryptic) lyrics. Although the Beatles have made better, this song is still a great track.
-
Light My Fire- The Doors
-
?
Layla - Derek & The Dominos
So underappreciated on this site...
-
?
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
-
Under Pressure - Queen
Really great song. I prefer Baba O'Riley, but voted for this one because it is a great song by TWO great artists, Queen and David Bowie.
-
Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who
Most played Who song, but for good reason: the song is a classic in every sense of the word, with amazing performances by Moon on drums, Entwistle on bass, and Daltrey on vocals. Pete Townshend's greatest composition (and best synth work).
-
Hotel California - Eagles
-
Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
-
Sympathy for the Devil - The Rolling Stones
-
Telegraph Road - Dire Straits
-
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles
One of George's strongest songs, although not quite up to the Lennon-McCartney caliber - the band has done better (even on the White Album: see "Dear Prudence"), but this is still a solid effort. Plus, Eric Clapton on guitar!
-
Bluebird- Buffalo Springfield
-
Sharp Dressed Man - ZZ Top
Living in OK. , and then TX. , have to go with Top. Some of the country stations I listened to in Tx. Would sneak in a Top song occasionally.
-
I'd Love To Change The World- Ten Years After
-
Somebody to Love - Jefferson Airplane
-
Oye Como Va - Santana
-
Time - Pink Floyd
-
Turn! Turn! Turn! - The Byrds
-
People Are Strange - The Doors
