21 Hair Metal

Maybe it's partly a generational thing, since I was born in 84 and by the time I was a pre-teen, I knew of this music as something advertised on commercials for 80's power ballad compilation CD's. When I went through a metalhead phase as a teenager, we resented these bands because there was nothing particularly heavy or rebellious about them - they are viewed as bands that appeal to teen girls.

In my perception, this genre was sort of a commercial bandwagon largely based on image/fashion, in which the music was essentially cheesy pop songs with distorted guitars and too much reverb on the drums, and maybe a gimmicky technical guitar solo thrown in as a saving grace to an otherwise bland, predictable song. It became incredibly cliche, slickly produced, and wasn't about much of anything other than some glorified rockstar lifestyle. When it wasn't power ballads meant to woo the female demographic, it was dumb party songs. All the spandex and crazy poofy hair was basically a great ...more

Who put grunge above hair metal, grunge is objectively known to be one of the best times in music, hair metal was a bunch of wussies making pop songs to sell to 13 year old girls that they called "metal".

Hair metal is still out their sadly, its just taken on the shape of pop punk and pop metal. Everywhere you see rock that's more about appearance then substance, you can thank hair metal. Grunge 2 will take care of these guys

Motley Crue? Bon Jovi? Ded Leppard? All great bands

22 Gospel

I love it and it is the best out of all of them. God bless.

Actually there are Christian bands that actually do metal and have the electric guitar riffs and. Have better drum beats than country, rap, and pop all together

I feel bad up voting this because the artists have good intentions for a good cause, but all of them sound the same and have the same lyrics. The only exception I can think of is Lenny Kravitz's 'Are You Gonna Go My Way.'

I'm a christian and believe in god but this music is absolutely annoyin and boring. Honestly speaking, this should be in the top five.

23 Death Metal

Melodic death metal is amazing, but the brutal subgenres can be understandable, but still. And it does take talent, especially the musicianship. I would give anyone to hear a rap fan even begin to play anything bands like Amon Amarth and Children of Bodom play.

Are you guys idiots?!? This is the hardest genre to play ever, imagine emmiting a death metal growl and doing a complicated solo this shouldn't be on this list in fact this shouldn't even be a list this is just a bunch ignorant people hating on genres that people like I won't be the first one to admit that I don't really like country but that doesn't mean it sucks all music requires skill by the way pop isn't a genre

Sure, it takes talent to play the complex instruments that this genre requires, but other than that this genre isn't very good. Usually the lyrics are mediocre and are sometimes about violence or blood and guts. The lyrics don't matter though because there's the Cookie Monster who is growling the lyrics the whole time through a song and because the Cookie Monster is growling, it usually sounds like hfhkxdhcrhsij and you can't tell what the lyrics are. Some people say that it takes talent to do the growls that death metal vocalists do, but what talent actually is there? It's just growling. If the Cookie Monster from Elmo can do a growl then I'm pretty sure everyone can. Also, music is suppost to sound good. The Cookie Monster growling and complex instruments in the background just does not sound good, particularly when some of the time the instruments barely have a melody. To all of you who are fans of death metal, please stop saying that this genre is extremely underrated and a great ...more

Try to do a death growl. It hurts your throat, right? Imagine doing that for hours at a time at a concert. There is a certain technique to death growling, and you pretty much have to learn it on your own. It's not regular growling, because you'd screw your voice up really fast - ryanrimmel

This sucks so bad
I had to vote pop but god this is horrible!
You can't even call this metal! - Idiot244

24 Trap Music

Unlike other genres from electronic music this is boring and annoying. I am getting tired of those soft bad beats made from ugly snares/claps, annoying looped hi-hats every beat and those awful bass lines. There is no energy in this music. You can also put stupid words and swearing to this genre making it rap trap which is even worse. I think good trap exist, but it is hard to find.

Should be called crap music.

Very formulaic and almost the same across the board. Not much deviation between each song you hear in this genre. Really boring.

Nowadays I could hardly find any good trap music. What a disgrace to EDM! - MChkflaguard_Yt

25 Adult Contemporary

And of course, a moron would put this here.

Technically some billy Joel songs fall under this category, so it can't be that bad

My mom likes this stuff - SoldierOfFortune

Musix about new age astronomy? And old people listen to it. - admonlee

26 Trap Rap

enough

Just no...

27 Nightcore

This shouldn't even be a music genre, all it is copyright infringement. And the pitch changing man it just gets old. A lot of the time you'll find this rubbbish on YouTube with a typical anime background and with a inconsistent pitch change, cause whoever made it couldn't bother to sing it themselves. And oh it can ruin your favorite songs from any genre. For example I listened to Animal I Have Become on Nightcore and it sounded like complete garbage! I just hope this ends up being a fad and dying, cause I'm sick of it!

It's stealing other people's work and changing the pitch. Disgrace to music.

This isn't even music. You just take an existing song and speed it up to where it sounds high pitched. For example, imagine "Master of Puppets" by Metallica as a nightcore song. It would suck big time.

Just sped up songs with higher pitch.

28 Post-grunge

Everlong by foo fighters is pretty great. I can't think of anything else. And I absolutely hate Daughtry and Hinder all those other white trash bands who think they can rock. Yuck.

Puddle of Mudd and Creed. Also made Nickelback terrible. There are a few good post-grunge acts, such as Foo Fighters, but those are few and very far between.

Grew up on this as well, not gonna hate. In fact their some decent bands from this genre. Shinedown, Foo Fighters, Chevelle, Three Days Grace to name a few. - cjWriter1997

Hair metal has evolved into grunge evolving into post grunge... hair is not as bad as post grunge so I won't complain. But seriously my mom played a hinder cd every time we got in the car for three months... - Lucretia

29 Pop Punk

Person who said that punk artists are whiny spoiled kids complaining about first world problems: I want to call you an idiot but I won't because I am trying so hard not to be mad. Having anxiety, being suicidal, having depression, being abused or harassed (physically emotionally or sexually), having no friends, having disabilities or diseases, being bullied, having no freedom, being poor or broke, being ignored or misunderstood, or being accused of something you didn't do are all valid reasons to complain; YOU yourself are complaining about hating a band. Stop insulting people because many punk artists have a higher than average intelligence and are only complaining because of hate and struggle and feeling trapped, anxious, angry, or boring, which is perfectly fine.

I like all types of punk. Even pop punk. I actually think it shouldn't be called pop punk. It should be called nu punk, buzz punk or catchy punk

I feel like this should be called modern punk instead if it is Blink-182, Green Day, and Sum 41. But if it is Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, and Paramore, it should be called pop punk. I go more for the more heavy pop punk bands than the less heavy ones, Blink-182's Neighborhoods have some heavy songs like Snake Charmer, Sum 41 has some heavy songs, and Brain Stew by Green Day is heavy, so yeah. - AnimeDrawer

People call themselves actual punks yet, they listen to blink 182. These same people also never heard of The Offspring, Sex Pistols, or The Clash.

30 Rockabilly

Rockabilly is the primitive form of rock and roll. It was the mix of white hillbilly with black rhythm and blues. Some rockabilly songs lean more towards rhythm and blues and others more towards the white hillbilly country. Many people ( like myself ) say that Elvis Presley invented the genre. The impact of rockabilly on a cultural social level is enormous. It gave us rock, changed pop music, it changed even fashion, haircuts etc... It's ridiculous to put this music genre on a list like this. The best music genres wouldn't exist if there was no rockabilly because it's the genre that started the fire for all what is modern music.

Rockabilly is not my favourite but you have to appreciate it. It created most of these genres and was actually pretty good.

How come this is on the list? Rockabilly brought a lot of country over into the main stream.. Just listen to some of the original 50s

Guess what? Country is one of the most hated genres of all time commenter below

31 Reggaeton

I hate hip hop, pop and emo... But there is a worse crap called reggaeton

In all rock (real rock bands) and metal bands you will find that the members really make a good effort for making music, and many guitarists, singers, drummers and bassists do a really hard work and sometimes they are underrated... But the reggaeton artists who are doing what they call "music" (actually isn't more than just noisy crap) don't make a good effort and receive many attention...

Everywhere place I go (in my country) I hear that stupid noise... I haven't gone to a place in where I hear good music as rock or metal (only few places). And the worst thing is that those "artists" gain money by their stupid noise... - rock2metal

If you think hip hop and pop was bad, wait until you listen to this. This is the worst music genre ever, at least pop sometimes uses instruments and some singers are good, and hip hop used to be good until the 2000's. This genre was never good, they have awful beats and most of the so called vocalists can't sing and sound like robots and mostly all they do is talk and make robot sounds. The songs are offensive and gross. Every time I listen to this on the radio, I want to change it badly.

I feel badly ashamed that Reggaeton comes from my country, Puerto Rico. It gives us a really bad name, and the music is crap! I have to endure this crappy music every single time I go on a school road trip. Ugh! Rock is so much better! Metal is so much better! Even Justin Bieber is so much better (And for me, that's saying a lot! ). Not only the music is bad, the lyrics are horrible, sexist, disgusting... I could keep going. I rather shoot a bullet to my skull than listening to this.

Ugh. Just UGH.
Who thought this was a good idea? Even crunkcore sounds like heaven when compared to this.
And yes, this should be #1 already. - ZeroBlaster

32 Indie Pop

For those who don't understand indie pop it is popular music from an independent artist. Just because you aren't part of some huge record label doesn't mean your music can't be popular. - happyhappyjoyjoy

Professional musician opinion - the only genre that I actually think is totally lame. Still, there are the rare exceptions; just don't ask me to listen more than twice...

All I understand from indie pop: someone with a high vocal range and an acoustic guitar playing and singing about something bad.

Annoying whiny hipsters that should stick to open mic poetry.

33 Classical Crossover
34 Extreme Metal

I also voted just to get a point out. The people who wrote it's just screaming, no rhythm, and random notes are ignorant fools. For one, trying to scream properly without damaging your voice while sounding intense requires a ton of practice and skill to do properly; try screaming like you normally do with no technique and I guarantee your voice won't even last one song. Second, some of the music itself is extremely complex and requires a fairly decent understanding of music theory to compose and play well. Look up bands like Meshuggah and Opeth for examples of this. The lyrics are a lot more meaningful than people think they are, they are based off of all sorts of subjects. People have a tendency to think something is crap simply because they don't understand it, which is very stupid to do. I understand that people may not like because of how loud and chaotic it is, but don't go making a bunch of ignorant assumptions about something just because you don't understand it. Actually THINK ...more

Guys this I a genre that causes subgenres and there is no band that plays only extreme. by the way extreme is death, thrash, doom and black metal its not a simple genre of metal

Best metal though... you can't hate on it, with amazing artists like Death and Mayhem. - Lucretia

Well, metal is ugly, it is way too loud! The lyrics are yucky, the guitar is way too distorted, metal is extremely overrated! Extreme metal is my least favorite musical gerne of all time! These vocals are much too painful and ugly!

35 Latin

Modern Latin is basically just modern pop in Spanish. Don't let the fact that there are lots of bad songs out there distract you from the good artists like Shakira and Enrique Iglesias. It's personally my favorite genre, since I'm learning Spanish and also most of the Latin music I listen to often is somewhat pure. - galaco

How is Shakira and Santana bad though?

This is racist, I don't really like the music either, and this is coming from a Hispanic myself, but you don't need to hate it, I don't hate it, it's just that it's not really my type. Although Latin classic rock is good, but the rest are not really good.

Disclaimer: Latin music and reggaeton are NOT the same genre. - ZeroBlaster

36 Rape Metal

Is this even a genre of its own?

WHAT?! What kind of sick, sadistic, mallicious, perverted, sex hungry creep would have created such a thing?!

This is a music genre? - ashduck

37 Deathcore

I'm really surprised that this hasn't made it past the top 20 yet. Way Way Worse than death metal, at least that requires some talent! In a deathcore song there are about 20 breakdowns in each song while the singer screams and pig squeals about how he wants to kill the school bully. Notable bands are Suicide Silence, Whitechapel and Carnifex.

Deathcore is not very good to be honest. Every once in a while, there is a good Deathcore band, like Despised Icon, Veil Of Maya, Born Of Osiris, and Oceans Ate Alaska, but a breakdown for a whole song is not what I think of when I think of music. I'm LOOKING AT YOU OCEANO. Melodic death metal and death metal are much better.

Made by people who misunderstood death metal. The lyrics aren't as powerful, and quite often you will find bands with clean vocals and emo-like lyrics along with breakdowns. Not to say there aren't good artists, but they are few in number. It's basically metalcore's big brother.

I thought this would be so much higher because of all of the criticism it receives. I’m not saying it’s bad though, I love deathcore. - HysteriXxD

38 Metal

Which retard put metal here? Whoever did, I encourage you to blow whatever you have for a brain out with a shotgun. Metal is amazing. Bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium have excellent music and inspirational lyrics. There's metal songs for whatever mood you're in. It's not all just senseless screaming and Satanism like the average retard thinks. - MetalFoREVer1228

I agree! Everyone who voted to put metal on here should listen to "Welcome To Hell" by Slayer and "Hell Awaits" by Venom, because that's exactly what is waiting for them.

Really? Metal is one of the worst genres? Whoever put this, YOU. CAN GO TO THE PIER, TIE A STONE ON YOUR LEG, AND THROW YOURSELF TO THE SEA! Metal is one of the best genres ever existed. No one can top Metal (except Rock).

And people say that pop fans judge other people who dislike the genre. - DCfnaf

I'm really surprised to see metal here, metal is the best music genre of all time, bands really take much time and effort to create their own music, and they make their own music with real passion and love to their fans, lyrically metal is the best genre you can find everything for every mood, and you can find it fast, slow, brutal, evil, melodic and dark, forever who says metal is just untalented musicians are trying to scream with no talent at all, try to play on the instruments like they do, try to growl like they do and try to write lyrics like they do..you will fail if you don't have the real passion of playing music..rap doesn't take any talent to make a song.. - nooreldeen

39 Jazz Jazz

Jazz isn't for everyone, but at least it isn't obnoxious and uncomfortable to listen to like pop, rap, and country. For people who like music to lower their blood pressure, this is the perfect genre. Also, I personally don't care for lyrics when listening to music, so jazz works wonderful for me personally. I will say, even though I love jazz, there are a lot of songs that sound the exact same or similar. It's a universal fault however in a lot of music. TL;DR: Jazz is fantastic, but I can understand why some people don't like it. It produces the opposite effect of what most modern radio/pop star/rock musician produce.

This is the most skill-required genre, I guess... I don't like it that much, but I wouldn't put it on the list. - Flav

Jazz is an amazing genre. It ranges from making you feel a spectrum of emotions to making you respect the person who is able to make you feel that way. - SwagFlicks

Dislike... I dislike everything people like, don't I? - Lucretia

40 Contemporary Christian

It's basically country/pop with religious lyrics. And I don't hate it because of the religious music, I actually enjoy traditional cathedral music (the one that uses the pipe organ) with the Latin choirs, even though I'm an atheist. I can respect what someone says in their songs as long as they make it entertaining and there is depth to it. - Caleb9000

Religious songs are boring.

One word: boring!

I do believe in God but this... - ZeroBlaster
