Best Death Metal and/or Deathcore Vocalists

The Top Ten

1 Phil Bozeman - Whitechapel Phil Bozeman - Whitechapel

This man, Phil is amazing. His lows are so great that they ring in your chest and illuminate your imagery on any form or idea that you could possibly conjure up.

Phil Bozeman has the best lows of all time. No argument. And what you want in a deathcore artist are great lows. He might not have had the best highs but he's certainly better than Mitch Lucker was.

Just the best, all exhale too. Stage presence is incredible, and he has supreme command of his range. He reaches the lowest lows I believe are possible, and his highs are unmatched.

Listen to "this is exile vocals only" it's available on YouTube. That's all the proof anyone needs.

2 Mitch Lucker - Suicide Silence Mitch Lucker - Suicide Silence Mitchell Adam "Mitch" Lucker was an American musician and lead singer for the deathcore band Suicide Silence.

No, no, no, HE NEEDS TO BE #1 I love the other guys on this list but Mitch Lucker is the king of deathcore metal, he has the most powerful voice of all time, the deep blast of power of his low screams, and his high screams that brings chills to your spine. He will live forever! RIP, he needs to be #1, he is the best of all of the people from this list, he is inspirational and his songs have meaning and depth, he is #1 in my book

The classic DM vocalists should be up top - who can deny Corpsegrinder? BUT, as much as I accept that Randy Blythe and his ilk aren't death metal. Mitch Lucker hits some of the lowest lows, and certainly some of the highest highs. Rarely have I heard a wider range. This guy was incredible on stage, he inspired many.R.I.P.

The no1 must be Mitch.! Mitch have great voices that the other not have, the voice sound is very deep, clear and more energy when lives..!

Best screamer ever!

3 Randy Blythe - Lamb of God Randy Blythe - Lamb of God David Randall "Randy" Blythe is the vocalist and lyricist of American heavy metal band Lamb of God and side-project band Halo of Locusts.

The strongest voice that I ever imagined... Ultimate voice and variations are deadly threatening... Damn no words to express about his ultimate voice...

It's a bit dis-appointing to see him at 2. His vocals are the most thrashing ever. Songs like Ruin, Laid to Rest, Pathetic are incredible. Randy, you rule buddy.

His voice is just so demonic, I don't really know how to put this but DAMN!. you wanna listen to a spine chilling growl of pure awesomeness, he is yer man. Setan's devil version's, if there's a choir in hell Randy will definitely lead the chorus.

Lamb of God isn't death metal. - Metalhead1997

4 Chuck Schuldiner - Death Chuck Schuldiner - Death Charles Michael "Chuck" Schuldiner was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known as the founder and vocalist, guitarist and bassist of the American heavy metal band Death. He is considered the most influential figure in Death Metal, with some publications referring to Chuck as the "Godfather ...read more.

He is the father of death metal. Most of these guys wouldn't even be here right now if it wasn't for him.

chuck schuldiner, no 17, this is a joke, right? and since when is cradle of filth death metal or deathcore, it's clearly black metal!

Randy Blythe is good, but not death metal. I hate seeing so many classic death metal vocalists overlooked in favor of the young teenage heartthrob singers. Go ahead and like them, but please listen to Mantis, Corpsegringer Fisher, and Barney Greenway before voting for Lucker or Bozeman.

Meh, Phil out-growls. Chuck's alright though.

5 Alexi Laiho - Children of Bodom Alexi Laiho - Children of Bodom

Alexi is one of the best guitar players on earth right now... and his voice perfectly matches their singing style... and their guitar is so melodic... just listen to Kissing The Shadows

oh common alexi is the best what are you guys thinking Amon Amarth and Nile are pretty good but COB is the best Every time I die just listen and youll see

Yeah I know randy sings n screams well. But alexi along with those things he is the lead guitarist and he writes songs. Can randy do all these?

he's not only the best deathcore but also the best guitarist today completely insane...

6 Ian Bearer - Rings of Saturn

THE best vocalist around. His growls are demonic, while still staying clear and his highs make satan weep

He is the best vocalist in the Deathcore scene. His voice is very powerful and demonic.

The newest beast in the Deathcore scene

Easily the biggest vocal range in metal. His highs are loud, powerful, and energetic and are some of the highest screams in metal, while his lows, pig squeals, and gutterals are jaw dropping and brutal.

7 Chris "CJ" McMahon - Thy Art Is Murder V 3 Comments
8 Dan Watson - Infant Annihilator

Hey, he is number 1. No one can beat him. Dan Watson left Infant Annihilator. But he is insane and brutal. His new bands (Enterprise Earth and Mire Lore) are better than I. A in my opinion. I think Dan Watson, Dickie Allen, Luke Griffin, Ian Bearer and Alex Terrible are.. Best vocalist in Deathcore.

He's simply amazing. His lows are some of the lowest, his highs are some of the highest. Hear him screaming or "growling" is just like listening to a demon.

He's one of the best, no doubt about it.

Should be at least in the top 3

9 Ronnie Canizaro - Born of Osiris

The second best part of Born of Osiris, besides the awesome guitar player and drummer.

10 George Corpsegrinder Fisher - Cannibal Corpse

No band is as brutal as Cannibal Corpse, and no vocalist is as brutal as George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher. He is definitely one of the best death metal vocalists. Some of what he does seems near impossible - fifteen second screams, lightning fast guttural vocals. Listen to any Cannibal Corpse song with Corpsegrinder on it, and you'll see what I mean. He doesn't use any kind of vocal machines or enhancements on his voice (as many other vocalists do). Corpsegrinder should be near the top, if not at the top, of any list comprising death metal vocalists - real death metal vocalists.

This list is highly inaccurate of true death metal. It is totally flooded by deathcore and melodic death metal vocalists, most of whom are in bands that formed just a few years ago (and seem to be very poser-friendly). Where is all of the traditional death metal? This list doesn't even contain the vocalists who pretty much created and influenced death growling - people like jeff becerra, kam ...more

I love this guy. He is one of my inspirations in singing rock. Not that I am bragging or anything, but with a little more training not to mention age ripening, I could finally copy his singing voice. Ain't that cute? - aeromaxx777

Truly the absolute best. None of the albums he made were bad. Screw all the deathcore, Chuck and Corpsegrinder should be number 1!

The Contenders

11 Dez Fafara - Devildriver

So, SO under-rated. His range might not be as high as some of the others on this list, but his "I've just been gargling with nails and battery acid" shouts are the best. Powerful, emotional and most importantly- he sounds awesome. Great live, too.

Dez also has one of the best stage presences in all the business. He only has to look at the crowd for them to circle pit like crazy.

Put up there in the top 10 DevilDriver fans!

12 Alex Koehler - Chelsea Grin Alex Koehler - Chelsea Grin

His screams, in my opinion, are the best. He should be at third or second. His voice in their EP is "demonic". It is completely awesome. I am a big fan of Chelsea Grin and I love all of their songs and albums. So anybody who doesn't know Chelsea Grin please go to YouTube and listen to this sick band! CG for the win!

This dudes voice is gone, he screwed it up doing his highs and now he sounds like a dying cat.

Listen to sonnet of the wretched and you'll understand why he should be higher

Alex is the best.!

13 Oliver Sykes - Bring Me The Horizon

you'd never expect such a powerful voice to come out of such a frail lookin guy!... his screams are high and powerfull and his lows are massive! like in the end of ''medusa'' or ''pray for plagues''... and the most respectable part is that he doesn muffle his mike whie growling!... which is more than I can say for phil bozzman or suicide silence!
for a couple of years I did see that his voice wasnt as great as ever but I recently saw him live in montreal in 2010 and his voice was more beasty than EVER!... check that on youtube too n you ll know what I'm talkin about!

If people think that Oli Sykes is a good vocalist they should be castrated

Regardless of the fact that he permanently damaged his vocal cords from doing it wrong, his sound is terrible, especially now since he can't even growl properly anymore

You guys are idiots Mitch Lucker Is more better

Um, BMTH isn't deathcore, and they're not even metal. - Metalhead1997

14 Johan Hegg - Amon Amarth Johan Hegg - Amon Amarth

He has such a versatile voice. can low growl, forcefully shout, and can scream exceptionally well.

Him and the singer from Hypocrisy are awesome.

I find it funny he just walks around talking like that.

15 Eddie Hermida - All Shall Perish Eddie Hermida - All Shall Perish

Great accentuation, pronunciation, vocal range as well as power.

I can only handle him in the song Wage Slaves, I despise the fact that he is the new frontman of Suicide Silence. His pitchy screams annoy the hell out of me.

16 Angela Gossow - Arch Enemy Angela Gossow - Arch Enemy Angela Nathalie Gossow is a German vocalist, best known as the former lead vocalist for the Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy.
17 Dallas Toler-Wade - Nile
18 Trevor Strnad - The Black Dahlia Murder Trevor Strnad - The Black Dahlia Murder

Trevor has amazing dynamic in his high, low and mid range vocals. He hits the nail on the head in terms of lyrics for the concepts he covers and the themes of BDM's music. Deserves a spot in the top ten.

One of the most distinctive metal vocalists around, who improves with every album.

Awesome use of high screams and low growls - MetalFoREVer1228

He's my main influence to scream. Only a few come close o him

19 Jonny Davy - Job For a Cowboy

This man hits lower than some slam metal artists. If you watch the Mitch memorial show you see him hitting super low with his mouth wide open. That's impossible for your average vocalist. Hands down #1

No one can sing with a voice so low and then in a tenth of a second switch to scream higher and absurd

These growls are just so brutal.. So so brutal

20 Mike Hranica - The Devil Wears Prada

His screaming is brutal and ear piercing which makes The Devil Wears Prada the band they are today. Songs like 'Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over' show the low growls and harmony within the other instruments, while 'Hey John, Whats Your Name Again?' shows his amazing screams which gives all of their songs their own distinct tone and character!
