Top 10 Most Overhyped Video Games of 2018
These games received more attention in 2018 than they deserved.
Keep in mind, these games did not necessarily have to be released in 2018. They just had to be extremely overhyped and receive far more attention than they actually deserved. So, let us proceed with the list.

Fortnite
I guess it's decent, but really, people only play this game because it's free. This game would have been dead ages ago if it wasn't free. It's just Minecraft Hunger Games with guns and realistic graphics. How is it Game of the Year?
It's super repetitive, the fan base is terrible, Ninja is a horrible influence on children, it's insanely RNG-based, it's unbalanced, you have to pay to get good skins, and overall, it's just a broken mess.
Now, I don't think Fortnite is terrible, but it's far from the amazing game people make it out to be.
This game is way more popular than it should be. Yes, it's a decent battle royale game, but it doesn't deserve such a giant, hyped-up fan and player base.
I can't understand gamers these days. I get it, it's free, and it's better than one of EA's games full of microtransactions. It has cool skins and very decent gameplay. I like the game myself, but I can't go 30 minutes without hearing someone on a game like Call of Duty ask people if they want to play Fortnite. I can't go another day without getting spammed with Fortnite invites every six seconds.
Great game, way too much overhype.

Battlefield V
This game lost its touch, man. It's not that bad, but still, really EA? A battle royale mode included for $60 with extra DLC? Yum, yum, yum!
Everyone called Call of Duty: WWII a ripoff of Battlefield 1, yet no one cares that this is just Call of Duty: WWII with vehicles!

FIFA 19
I don't know about you guys, but this is probably the third worst game in FIFA's history. I was really hyped about The Journey: Champions (which is a piece of trash) and FIFA 19's career mode, including the Champions League, Europa League, etc. When it came out, I was absolutely disappointed. The passing is just as bad as the goalkeepers in this game. Bicycle and scissor kicks are overpowered in career mode, and you can score more goals from corners than in a one-on-one. I will get FIFA 20 only to see what happens after The Journey. FIFA 19 is by far one of the worst games of 2018.
Adding a nine to replace the eight every year doesn't make the game different. Personally, I found even FIFA 11 on the DS more fun than this game because I could play it on the go on one of my favorite video game consoles, period.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Another battle royale game with the name "Call of Duty" slapped on it. I swear, if the next DOOM game or the long-awaited Half-Life 3 turns out to be a battle royale game, then I'm going to pull the trigger.
All my friends play this crap now. I have nothing to do but jump on the bandwagon.
Let's be real, all Call of Duty games are overhyped.
-
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
People just don't shut up about this game.
Every YouTube video, website, or forum I visit always has a group of people or a single person talking about this game.
I've seen fewer people talking about Fortnite and Battlefield V.
This is about as overhyped as Fortnite is. And I actually like this and Fortnite.
Everybody is talking about Waluigi, while I'm just wanting King K. Rool.

A Way Out

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
-
Just Cause 4
Just Cause 4 just seems like another open-world sandbox to me. Even then, the sandbox itself doesn't look that interesting.

The Crew 2

Mario Tennis Aces
From watching gameplay, I don't really think there's a lot to it. I wouldn't spend 60 bucks on it.
It seems like it will be good, but then again, this is what Ultra Smash should have been.
What's the hype about the tennis exclusive again?

Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker
-
WWE 2K19
-
Marvel's Spider-Man
Really good, but it missed a lot of things. There were a lot of Easter eggs that were great, but the villains weren't that impressive. I never understood why Doc Ock was so mad.
-
Lego DC Super-Villains
All these LEGO games have the same controls, gameplay, and story for $59.99. I just don't get why people would spend $60 on a LEGO game instead of God of War or Red Dead 2.
-
Metal Gear Survive
That was released only in 2018? Feels like a 2017 game to me.
It's Metal Gear Survive - I don't think I have to say anything else.
-
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
-
Halo Infinite
-
Cyberpunk 2077
-
Agony
-
God of War
I thought it was really overrated. The story was pretty mediocre, in my opinion.
-
Dragon Ball FighterZ
It's more or less just another fighting game in my eyes, and I'm not too interested in Dragon Ball. I'm not sure what everybody is buzzing about.
Since it's an anime-based game, you're either a fan of fighting games, or you're not - there's no middle ground in this case.
-
Super Mario Party
Everyone is saying, "IT SAVED MARIO PARTY." No, it didn't. It's called improvement, and I'm sure the fans will find ways to bash this game too later on. Don't believe me? Four words: Mario Party: Star Rush, a game trying to please fans because they weren't happy with 9 and 10, but it still got hate. Why?
