This is a compilation of who I believe is the best from the 60's and 70's!

The Contenders: Page 3

41 Andy Gibb

The most gorgeous and beautiful voice of all the Gibb family, handsome, charms, talented, lovely, nice, good looking, he had all the world for himself, but the life had another way for him. Give the world beautiful and few songs, but enough for all his fans, wonderful things comes in small quantities, so his songs aren't much but are the best cause he was special and excellent. Much love for Andy, from the bottom of my heart always I will be His DESIRE.

A beautiful young man that went very soon but gave us beautiful songs, many written by him. A beautiful style of singing, you can listen to his songs, and always sounds modern

My Everlasting Love, my Desire, my Melody, WHY did you go so early? Some day you will come and go together

Gone but not forgotten x

42 Deep Purple Deep Purple Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, more.

From Rod Evans to Ian Gillian, including Joe Lynn Turner, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, from Shades... to Now What?! All amazing musicians.

Simple best! Enough said!

In my opinion the greatest earley rock band.

What to say about Purple - unique rock band.
For me - the different sound of rock, exceptional.

43 Cheap Trick Cheap Trick Cheap Trick is an American rock band from Rockford, Illinois, formed in 1973. As of 2010, the band currently consists of Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen, Tom Petersson and Daxx Nielsen.

If people think Cheap Trick is only about The Flame they are sadly mistaken. One of the greatest bands ever with dozens of classic / flat out amazing songs. Also not just a " bar band " - an all time great band.

The greatest bar band to ever come out of America.

One of the most underrated, but greatest bands. - FearlessFreep

Only remember one song of theirs, The Flame. I LOVE that song!

44 Neil Young Neil Young Neil Percival Young is a Canadian singer-songwriter and musician, producer, director and screenwriter.

Not a Neil fan I see, had to scroll all they way down here to find him.

He spoke the truth and nothing but the truth so help me God!

I was quite dissapointed to see him this far down the list. His guitar playing abilities alone should place him much higher on this list.

Neil young is the greatest musician of all time even though I'm only 14... First of all hos Music is so good and his voice makes the final touch! He should be number 1

45 Electric Light Orchestra Electric Light Orchestra The Electric Light Orchestra are an English rock band from Birmingham. They were formed in 1970 by songwriters/multi-instrumentalists Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne with drummer Bev Bevan.

One of the greatest and most unique bands of all time. Misunderstood and misinterpreted, ELO and Jeff Lynne did things with music that no other band has done since. Each album is different and every song is highly diverse with a unique mix of beautiful melodies, stunning orchestral counter-melodies, rock rhythms, electronic/synth effects, spacey effects, etc. Often perceived as 'cheesy' by a lot of rock snobs but is truly TRIPPY on many levels and may take multiple listen-throughs on some albums to hear whats REALLY going on. Incredible.

Absolutely a hit making group that was different than the rest. Had many top 40 hits. More than several groups that are currently in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. They deserve their place in history.

I mean the Beatles said if they kept making music into the 70s they would want to sound like ELO!

Best band of them all. Time has the final word: recently Four consecutive sold out nights at the O2, two consecutive sold out nights at Hollywood Bowl, and one sold out night at Wembley stadium after all these years. That says it all.

46 Jefferson Airplane Jefferson Airplane Jefferson Airplane was a San Francisco, California-based band who pioneered the American counterculture movement as well as psychedelic rock. more.

Under appreciated in their day because they were a bit ahead of their time.

Dick Cavett show August 18th 1969, long before I was born

47 Grateful Dead Grateful Dead

Legendary band played great music, great vocals

This list is a joke...they put ABBA ahead of the about a travesty

Best songwriting group ever, pioneered whole new form of music.

49 ABBA ABBA ABBA were a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972 by members Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

Record sales, beautiful voices, musical, what more is there to say. This was an incredibly popular band in the seventies and remains popular today, having the second spot in the UK's best selling albums list. They had eight wonderful albums and several hits, unfortunately only one in the US. ABBA is my favorite seventies band, because of the music. It's sad, but most people are unable to look past the band's cheesy appearance and lyrics, and see the brilliance in the music.

They revolutionized pop, put Sweden on the map, and had fans all over the world before anyone even thought of the internet. Two ladies with voices that no one could ever copy, and two gentlemen who put some of the most beautiful melodies into mainstream pop. Say what you will, but I absolutely love them.

So many of theirs that still catch my attention and make me wanna dance, after all these years. That's what makes it one of the best groups for me.

great band

Great group here! I'm surprised enough to even see it on this list. They have a lot of good songs but only a few of them are really original. - AlexandeHoyte

Wow.. this group is amazing! Versatile.. Full of energy.. And their 70's looking was extremely original..

Brian Connolly's voice is amazing! At least in the earlier days for them. They weren't superb however they're singing abilities may possibly have been the best! Better than Queen who've ripped them off completely.

Great band!

52 Grand Funk Railroad Grand Funk Railroad

They are without a doubt the most known unkwons of the underground, but definetly one of my top ten..

One of the top Rock groups ever. Sold out many outdoor arenas. Many Top 40 hits. Deserve their recognition in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Fame came from their music, not hairdos and accents like the mediocre Beatles.

The Greatest American Garage Band of all time, and without a doubt, the most powerful live group of the 70's... If it was based on shere numbers, GFR would have been in 20 years ago... One of the biggest injustices in rock & roll.
