They formed in 1985 as a hardcore punk band, and their sound progressed towards a doom metal style that also included influences from dark ambient and industrial music as well as incorporating elements of folk music.

165 Vader Vader Vader is a Polish death metal band from Olsztyn. Formed in 1983, the group was founded by then-bassist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek and guitarist Zbigniew "Vika" Wróblewski. Starting as a heavy metal group, Vader eventually went to thrash, speed, and then in the late 1980s became a death metal band. The more.
166 Extermination Dismemberment

Most brutal death bamd ever

167 Crawlspace

Crawlspace is a band that is not very well known. While they may not be as heavy as Cannibal Corpse, they are pretty darn close. They only have one death metal album, but that one is very easily spotted by its cover being almost completely red. Crawlspace's best song in my opinion is Ressurection of Demons. The song starts out thrashy, and then moves into a heaviness that almost none of the bands on this list could dream of touching. - ThatoneMetalhead

Similar to Six Feet Under and that type of early 00's deathcore. When deathmetal started

168 Unleashing Vengeance
169 Jerusalem

Go back 38 years to the beginnings of Heavy as we know it now. The legendary Jerusalem (1972) managed and produced by Ian Gillan were years before their time. Listen to the official remastered reissue just released by Rockadrome Records, even heavier. 'Primitive Man ' has got to be amongst the heavist songs ever written

170 Sadistik Exekution

This is definitely the heaviest band on this list. It looks like people completely mistook what the question was. These guys are ridiculously heavy and brutal and should definitely be #1 heaviest. I like most of the bands in the Top Ten better than these guys, but Sadistik Exekution is much heavier than any of my favorite bands (Metallica, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.)

178 Job for a Cowboy Job for a Cowboy Job for a Cowboy is an American death metal band from Glendale, Arizona. Formed in 2003, the band's debut album Genesis was released in 2007, peaking at No.

Unfortunately, this list is people voting for what is most comfortable in their realm. They're not going out and exploring what is truly heavy; it's merely people who aren't really into the genre voting for what is most prominent and mainstream. When put up against Job For A Cowboy, Behemoth, Thy Art Is Murder, etc., Metallica simply does not compare in terms of heaviness. And yet they remain at the top. Why? Because people recognize it. It's the "safe" part of metal. I will cede that Metallica was revolutionary. They brought a niche genre to a wider audience. However, that was 25 years ago. They are just not relevant to metal anymore.

You guys have no idea what metal is until you've heard these guys. Metallica's okay and Slipknot's okay, but this band is super ' heavy.

I don't really enjoy brutal death metal unless it has more of a grind edge and pig squeals less prominent. (i.e. I like cattle decapitation and brutal truth but not this). But obviously this is top 20 heavy

179 Asking Alexandria Asking Alexandria Asking Alexandria are an English metalcore band from York, North Yorkshire formed initially in 2008 by lead guitarist Ben Bruce along with former lead singer Danny Worsnop, bassist Joe Lancaster, keyboardist and synth player Ryan Binns, and current members drummer James Cassells and rhythm guitarist more.

I love them there sound is just so different but in a good way

Whole song is screamo! M/

The way they keep the heaviness mixing with that punk type of sound is unbelievable.

180 The Devil Wears Prada The Devil Wears Prada The Devil Wears Prada is an American metalcore band from Dayton, Ohio, formed in 2005. It consists of members Mike Hranica, Jeremy DePoyster, Andy Trick, and Daniel Williams.

While most other bands just play for the fun of it, these guys put their heart into it. They're heavy and sound like they've been playing for ages.

Come on! It is a christian band but at least put it higher on this list
