Top Ten Heaviest Non-Extreme Metal Albums

Heaviest non-extreme metal albums are usually speed metal albums and heavier traditional heavy metal albums.
The Top Ten
1 Iowa - Slipknot

Not a favorite album of mine, neither the band itself, but I can't deny this album is very heavy. Not the heaviest ever as some people think though...

2 Painkiller - Judas Priest

As Marty from Back To The Future would say "This is heavy".

3 Burnt Offerings - Iced Earth

Agree - it's suppossed to be heavy metal but goes pretty thrashy. Jon Schaffer usually plays thrash riffs and plays them great - a solid rhythm guitarist I like very much.

Dante's Inferno is amazing.

4 Battalions of Fear - Blind Guardian

Yes, Blind Guardian are the heaviest power/speed metal band. This album is speed-to-thrash metal and sounds quite brutal compared to the other albums in power/speed metal subgenres. Also, some of the lyrics are violent which isn't typical for power metal bands.

5 Imaginations from the Other Side - Blind Guardian

Their 1995 album was, again, heavier than the average in power metal. It's very thrashy and sounds like a Slayer version of power metal. Atmosphere of this album is darker than their Battalions of Fear. This album is not faster but in some sense it's heavier than Battalions of Fear.
In 2005, Imaginations from the Other Side was ranked number 373 in Rock Hard magazine's book of The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time.
Some of the songs are: Another Holy War, The Script for My Requiem, Bright Eyes, I'm Alive.
