Top 10 Best Train Video Producers
This list will cover who I believe are the best producers of train videos. I've always been a train buff since I was a kid and have never lost interest in them as I got older. These are all my opinions on who I think are the best producers of train videos.
Steam Train Videos by James Parfrey is my number one favorite producer of train videos. He covers all mainline and tourist steam operations. Many complain about the way he talks, but I think he's great. He covers all of today's operating steam locomotives with high-quality, high-definition footage. Just fantastic videos showcasing steam locomotives.
I really like their videos. Most of their content covers rail operations in the Midwest, and their videos have given me a greater appreciation of rail operations in that region. Just always great coverage of trains on different subjects.
TM has always been a favorite of mine, most famous for the I Love Toy Trains video series, which attracted many kids to O gauge trains, including myself. I've been hooked on model trains after watching their videos over the years, and they're still great to watch today.
Pentrex is, I think, the greatest train video producer. They've been in business since 1984, covering all subjects related to trains, both real and model. With fantastic narration by Dave Drui and subjects that keep train enthusiasts entertained, there's plenty of content to enjoy.
Greg Scholl did an amazing job for railfans. He produced fantastic videos on trains, mostly focusing on steam but also covering diesel locomotives, vintage film from a bygone era, and even vintage aircraft. Sadly, he passed away in December 2023, but he left a big impact on rail buffs with his outstanding work.
I like Railway Productions' videos. They're all enjoyable, with a mix of steam and diesel locomotive action. They also include relaxing music that I enjoy. They partnered with Greg Scholl for the popular America by Rail series, and it's rare to see two rival companies join together to create a project. Their videos are great for the whole family to enjoy.
I remember watching O Gauge Railroading magazine's programs on RFD-TV in the early 2000s. They're similar to TM, showing model trains with people's layouts and places where you can visit trains. I recently watched their content again on their YouTube channel, and it's as good as I remember. Another great company showcasing how the model railroading hobby has impacted everyone for generations.
Berkshire Productions was a company that made train videos from 1984 to the '90s. Their videos hadn't been available to the public for 30 years until 2022, when a few people worked to bring them back to life. I've enjoyed these rare videos a lot. It's nice to see them brought back for people who haven't seen them in a long time to enjoy again.
This was another train video company with great programs. They mostly focused on rail operations in the USA, but they've also traveled to other countries, such as Australia, for example. This is a great company that showcases railroading at its best.
I had to include Trains magazine on the list. They're known for publishing magazines, but they've also produced videos based on their publications, showcasing today's rail operations, railfanning locations, and steam engines currently in operation. They do an excellent job with their work, which is just as impressive as the others on this list.
