Movie Review - Black Panther

MegaSoulhero Score: 10/10

BEST MARVEL MOVIE EVER!!! IT WAS SO GOOD! LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT! MARVEL IS BACK! GO SEE THIS FILM! YOU WILL LOVE IT!! Okay. I’m calm. Anyway, last year’s Marvel films were good, but they weren’t anything spectacular. Actually, Guardians 2 and Spider-Man Homecoming were good. Thor: Ragnarok kind of sucked. I had high hopes for Black Panther, though, and it ended up being AMAZING!!

Since his dad died in Civil War, T’Challa aka Black Panther takes his place as king of an African place called Wakanda. But an enemy appears and attempts to take over the throne so he can rule over the place. SUCH AN AWESOME MOVIE!!! I don’t think I can say that enough times! I was absolutely blown away! After seeing how awesome Chadwick Boseman was as T’Challa in Civil War, I was really looking forward to seeing an entire movie about him. It does not disappoint. It’s basically an origin story, but not in the way that we’re used to. Despite already being the Black Panther, T’Challa still has to learn about what it takes to be the king and how to be a hero. Each character has their moment to shine. All the actors in the movie never feel like they’re phoning it in. They act with real emotion. Every line they say and every action they do has us believe what’s going on. Of course Black Panther himself is totally awesome. However, if I had to choose a favorite character, it would have to be Shuri. T’Challa’s little sister. She’s a tech genius and is very helpful quite a lot. She also has some of the funniest lines. Actually, there was one thing she says that I really hated. If you watched the movie, you know what I’m talking about. And of course I have to talk about the villain. Michael B. Jordan does such an excellent job as Killmonger. He is easily the best MCU villain. Yes, even better than Loki. Killmonger actually has a backstory and a motivation for doing what he’s doing. It’s actually understandable why he’s the villain. This makes him stand out from the other MCU villains. It’s great that Michael B. Jordan redeemed himself after the mess known as Fant4stic.

Something that’s been bothering me in the MCU films, most notably in the more recent ones, is the use of humor. Some of the new Marvel films have been focusing mostly on being comedies rather than intense action films. That doesn’t necessarily make them bad, though. With Black Panther, however, they use the humor to near perfection. There’s humor in the movie, but it comes in at the right times. It never feels out of place. When the movie wants to get serious, it focuses on being serious. Those serious moments don’t get ruined by jokes. There was only one moment I can think of when an intense moment gets interrupted by a joke, but it was kind of far into the film and it felt deserved. Is the humor good? For the most part, yes. But aside from the humor, there are actually some pretty dark moments. And I mean that in two different ways. There are some intense scenes that have a dark tone to them, and there also action scenes that take place in the dark. Despite the Black Panther costume being, well, black. Since I watched this in IMAX, it didn’t really bother me. Speaking of which, I love the design of Wakanda. It looks really beautiful. From above, you can see how much detail was put into it. It made me glad that I watched the movie in IMAX. The action scenes were very well choreographed. That car chase scene was brilliantly shot and very well done. If I had to point out anything negative about this movie, it would be that the CGI is Justice League level of bad. But that’s about it. It’s pretty much a movie that feels like its own thing and doesn’t try to tie in with the other MCU films. There are no Infinity Stones (not a spoiler), there aren’t any cameos, and it’s not a movie that requires you to watch the other ones to understand what’s going on. Like the thing with T’Challa’s dad. It’s explained pretty well in the film.

In conclusion, GO SEE BLACK PANTHER! This is my personal favorite film in the MCU. It’s a very intense, emotionally impactful, and exhilarating movie to watch that I think everyone can enjoy. This has everything that was missing from last year’s Marvel films. I’m glad they showed us once again how great they are at making movies. It’s a much better Lion King film than that 2019 film that’s coming out.

Score again: 10/10

Almost all my classes' teachers were talking about how good this movie is. And it shows. Nice review as always, MegaSoulhero. From the looks of it, Black Panther becoming the highest-rated superhero movie on Rotten Tomatoes is well-deserved. - visitor

Sounds great. - visitor

This movie was great. And this is coming from someone who openly dislikes the MCU. The fact that I ended up loving this film is such an insane feat. It also goes to show how great of a filmmaker Ryan Coogler is. - phillysports

Such a good movie. - TristGamer

This movie was pretty good! I enjoyed all the characters and the villain was actually pretty good as well. I wasn't completely blown away but many parts of this movie are excellent. Still can't get over the "What are those?! " moment though, that REEEALLY took me out of the movie - Phillip873

Couldn't agree with you more this movie was the best Marvel movie yet. 9/10 - UtMostCougar111

It doesn't feel like an MCU film. Nice breath of fresh air. - Cyri
