9/11 World Trade Center Attacks

I don't think that any tragedy is worse than the other. But I certainly think this one saddened me the most. 12,000 died in Galveston, 200,000 in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, yet only 3000 in 9/11. I wasn't born yet when this happened. But my dad thought he was gonna die that day. He wasn't in the twin towers. He wasn't even in New York. But he was in a big building in Maryland. He was working at NASA when he looked at a ceiling T.V. to see a plane run into the South tower. He thought a small plane hit the North tower because he was thinking to himself "why would a big commercial airliner run into a tall tower" (Because that is very unlikely to happen). But a huge explosion covered a third of the screen after that. He feared that a plane would hit his building. So he asked his boss if he could be excused. And he got out of that building as quickly as possible. He later heard more news on September 12 that the planes were hijacked, the towers collapsed, the Pentagon was hit, and that a ...more

I wasn't alive then but from what I heard you didn't want to be alive to witness this day. It his horrible what people can do to others. This event didn't just wipe out 2 skyscrapers and thousands of people but affected the minds and hearts of many. That because of war and terrorism we cannot be safe no matter where we are. It is sad to think of the world this way but its very much the truth. I visited the 2 pools and could look up and almost see the 2 brave towers standing so high up, even though I never got to see these structures in real life. To all the families shattered and to our panicked government, I hope this helps us improve for the future and show us what really people could do to one another.

You don't have to believe me if you don't want to, but

I WAS IN New York WHEN 9/11 HAPPENED.

I was taking a bus trip from lower to upper Manhattan. The bus passed the World Trade Center, and the North Tower was burning. Then, the other plane hit the South Tower and there was a huge noise and a fireball. A bunch of pieces of the twin towers fell on the bus. The driver told everybody to get out. It was crazy man.

How in the blazing hell is this worse than the two nukes dropped on Japan?

I remember this when I was 7, even though I live in Australia I still think its the worst thing that's happened in history. - dragon13304

9/11 was bad, but is NOTHING compared to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

No offense, but this shouldn't be so high up on the list. Don't get me wrong, these attacks are by far one of the worst tragedies USA has ever suffered, if not THE worst, but.. seriously? People think this deserves to be higher up on the list than the Black Plague? WWI and WWII? The Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombings? What. The. Hell. This is like the world out over the death of a ' gorilla, but remaining dead silent at the news of, let's say, Haiti's 2010 earthquake (which had over 100,000 casualties, mind you--even now, millions of Haitians STILL need help recovering! ). By the way, I myself am American--just putting that out there for anyone who may assume I'm not or that I don't give a crap about America's tragedies. I do. I'm just saying that placing this as #2 on a list of the world's absolute worst tragedies is rather dense.

I'm from Egypt and I can't believe that some sick-minded freaks would so something as horrible as crashing passenger airplanes into The Twin Towers killing 2,996 people (yes, that is the real death count) and injuring 6.000+ more! I hope anyone involved dies a horrible death! RIP to all the victims who died that terrible day!

They are building them again and one world trade centre which is one of the towers to get hit by plane will be open 2014 or 2015 and when the rest of the buildings (plus the other tower to get hit by plane) is built I say they will attack the towers again so why build them again to have the risk of another terrorist attack on the towers

It's so tragic to believe that thousands of innocent people, who did nothing wrong in the first place, were murdered in such a horrific terrorist attack. Looking at photos of the twin towers on fire and people jumping to their deaths breaks my heart every time I see them.

If we're being real, this should not be number 3. It was scary but only around 1,000 people died. The atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima should be above 9/11 because way more people died and it was probably a lot scarier than 9/11

I was just 8 years old when it happens and I was a survivor I was taking a walk with my dad but he didn't make it he shielded me but died later on

The victims were so innocent. I mean, really, even a targeted murder would have been less evil. It is a part of history that should never EVER be repeated. The criminals are so terrible! If I was there at the time, I would have asked the criminals why they had committed such a disgusting act.

This list was clearly made by an American. 9/11 was bad, but not nearly as bad as some of the other things on this list

In honesty America brought this attack upon themselves, terrible as it was I'm sure all the "ground zero's" America inflicted (Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Native Americans, Grenada, Panama) on other countries don't matter as long as it's not happening in your own backyard. That's why it's foolish that this is ranked so highly, yet not more tragic than ranking tragedies online.

I wasn't born when 9/11 took place. But I am 100% sure that it was the most saddest thing in world history. I just wish I can still see the twin towers standing tall and showing its beauty to the whole world. Every time I think of it I feel so emotional. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER 9/11.

9/11 is bad don't get me wrong but more people did in a day than people in 9/11. Also the bubonic plague was much worst and more people died in world war than world war 2 (correct me if I'm wrong)

While it certainly wasn't the worst by death toll, it should be listed as one of the worst events in history, it's created more terror groups in modern times, more terror attacks, there's countless ongoing wars, and other horrible tragedies. 9/11 Has changed the world, even if its not as bad as The Regimes under Hitler, The 3 Kims, Mao, Stalin, Mussolini, etc.

The moment that horrified the nation.

The Muslim terrorists think of this as a "jihad"(killing for the sake of God). That is so wrong and may they be in hellfire. And I'm a Muslim and we feel no sympathy for these brutal attacks.

This is the most tragic event in American history. I mean this is the worst of them all, our country was terrified that day and hundreds of people died.

This was horrible and I was not even alive but I have heard bad bad things about it and I feel so bad that a great world that we have could just turn everybody bad this should be number one or two.

I was almost a year old when it happened so I don't remember any of it personally but it was a terrible thing that happened to America that got everybody freaked out - Ajkloth

I read about it and it was harsh scary many families people lost there lives jumping of the building and being crushed by a 79 floor tall buildings I felt really bad.

I find it very sad that many people died since people were trying to harm the country. Messed up. - Powerfulgirl10
