Top Ten Most Underrated Bandsheaven I've decided to create this list after I discover some great great stuff by the very unknown bands - so let's have "your" opinion to this.
The Top Ten
I don't understand why everybody thinks Queen is underrated "Bohemian Rhapsody" is on every Best Songs of All Time list and everyone knows "We Will Rock You"
honestly a band only famous for a few of many unbeliveable songs really "don't stop me now", "bohemian rhapsody", "we will rock you", "we are the champions", "radio ga ga", "under pressure", and "another one bites the dust" aren't they're only good songs come on "princes of the universe", "breakthru", "innuendo", "headlong", "invisible man", and "i want it all" are just some of the many underrated songs by them.
People forgetting one truth:
Except Beatles, they're the only band who tried very very different styles of music with their combo of great lyrics (especially Freddie) - so why not? I'm sure there're lots of people who like them so much but I'm sure there're so many people who don't know their very best songs (there are way better songs than Bohemian Rhapsody) - the real artists of the music; let's keep their "miracle(music)" alive to keep "us" alive, we won't lose anything :-) - heaven

Most of the bands listed above are household names!
... Anyway Porcupine Tree are a band who are constantly reinventing themselves. Though they have been coined as a 'prog' band, their music owes just as much to psychedelic rock, metal, ambient and krautrock. They are also surprisingly accessible at times, to the point where I could safely say that anyone with an open musical palette (progressive or otherwise) could appreciate the majority of their albums.
This band is much larger outside its own country (UK) and while they are greatly admired within the progressive rock community they are largely unknown outside of it (at least in the UK). No band has had such a dramatic influence on my musical tastes than this one...
A lot of these bands are NOT UNDERRATED and are very highly regarded by many people. Porcupine Tree on the other hand is reasonably obscure outside of the Progressive Rock genre, yet they have released some of the best albums of modern times. 'In Absentia, ' 'Deadwing, ' and 'Fear of a Blank Planet' feature some of the best stuff I have ever heard.
Most of the bands on this list are MASSIVE (who actually read the title? ) - Porcupine tree have gained huge respect for their consistently great albums, production skills, attitude towards music, live shows etc etc. They will be remembered long after the rubbish in todays charts is forgotten.
What the heck is Queen doing at the top of this list? Do people even know the meaning of "underrated"?...
You know what, nevermind. Not worth going through this list.
Oh the mighty force of German power metal. They are over the top with choirs and fantasy themes. Wagner's ghost is a metal head. - drkhouse1978
"Wagner's ghost is a metal head." Yes! Proof: Blind Guardian's song Valkyries - Metal_Treasure
Only great songs
No surprise this is at #7. It should be number one thou. A band that pass now almost unidentified yet they represent an absolute symbol of the 90's vibes and way of thinking in that generation. The ending of an era (20th century), the coming of age and the certainty that good times wont last forever, only memories last and the most treasured carelessness of youth lives on in our hearts only. Depressive yet hopefull, rough yet so calm an heartwarming. Just the Pumpkins. The most underrated band that I have knowledge of.
"Queen, ABBA, Led Zeppelin and Smashing Pumpkins is underrated."
I should've known when I came to a publicly-voted underrated bands list that this might happen.
Queen and Led Zeppelin have the highest album sales of all time, you idiots.
The Smashing Pumpkins are really underrated. They are a very talented rock band and they deserve more credit.
Indeed they are very underrated. You should to these songs of them.

Abba underrated? Are you kidding me? You should look up the definition of the word 'underrated'. Abba received all sort of recognitions throughout the years. They even made a musical and a movie because of the quality of their work. I am sorry, but Abba are FAR from being underrated. As for not being 'cool', that's not a justification. In the 60s, Rolling Stones fan considered The Beatles' fans "not cool"; would you call The Beatles underrated because of that? Come on.
ABBA most certainly were underrated. Maybe not so much now. But they were sneered at by the so called 'serious' music critics and their music derided as 'bubblegum pop'. Well it's sure long lasting bubblegum because it's a sound that is loved to this day. Remember, this band was dead as far as the music establishment were concerned by the mid 80's. Nobody even mentioned them to reform for Band Aid or Live Aid. It wasn't till the early 90's that respected figures in Rock and Pop were happy to admit the genius of ABBA. - DeeJay3
ABBA doesn't get much credit due mainly to the fact that it's not considered "cool" to like their music (especially if your a dude). But since no one knows who I am I can safely say they are one of the most important recording artists in the history of pop music. - queen11
They are the most underrated bands of all time and ironic. There songs provide entrainment, sadness and love songs. If you lsisten to one song of them then you will listen to more songs.V 7 Comments
How are Queen, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles on here? They are much better than Nickelback but several people like them. Everyone seems to hate on Nickelback though. Most people just hate on Nickelback because of their bad songs (like Rockstar) which are played on the radio all the time. This band is better than people give them credit for. Being the greatest band ever isn't the point, being a good band very people like is the point.
I've seen 89 concerts, and I went to see Breaking Benjamin and Nickel just happened to be headlining, turned out to be the best live band I've ever seen. They get a bad rap because they are overplayed on the radio, and yes, I get it, however, I stand by my previous glowing endorsement.
Nickelback is one of the only bands that are both overrated in the way they don't really deserve to be as well known as they are, but also underrated in the way they don't deserve all the hate they get.
This band sucksV 17 Comments
One truth I know about 'em is: People who like 'em likes them so damn much but the people who don't like 'em just absolutely hate 'em: There's no need to hate 'em because they'r d very important part of the music history - but they don't have a big problem about none of other subject so that's why they're the 10th in the list... :-) - heaven
Pink Floyd where the Who of Progressive Rock. Ideas and songwriting made up the difference for not being quite as good musically as say Yes, Gabriel era Genesis, ELP or King Crimson. Pink Floyd never had the snob thing quite as bad as the others. Marijuana made them my favorite band in high school from 75 to 78. - drkhouse1978
Along with queen the equal best back in the world even though there music is worlds apart. It would be hard to imagine what type of concert it would be if it featured just then two especially if they came out together and done a duet at the end. Impossible now but I am sure it would have made history
Their songs are either seriously overrated (Wish You Were Here, Another Brick In The Wall, Comfortably Numb, Time) or seriously underrated (Keep Talking, Us And Them, Young Lust, Wearing The Inside Out) - AlkadikceV 15 Comments
Such underrated band pretty good too
Most underrated band on this list, do yourself a favor give a chance to "Slave to the grind" or his first album "Skid Row" :v
I loved the Dio years. - drkhouse1978
Nobody heard about Rainbow in my little country :( post communist capitalism grinded radio mainstream
The mighty Deep Purple helped to creat both hard rock and heavy metal, most people think that it was soley down to Zeppelin and Sabbath, but the Album Deep Purple In Rock WAS being made at the same time as Black Sabbath was, listen to both of them and then tell me which one is heavier. Besides from that they effectively created many sub-genres of heavy metal that are widely used today; power metal, neo-classical metal, progressive metal and symphonic metal and they hugely influenced thrash metal and New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands such as Iron Maiden. Along with this, they made probably the greatest metal live album of all time: Made in Japan, and created many other great albums under Mark II and Mark III, such as In Rock, Machine Head, Fireball and Burn. They were probably the second biggest band in the early 70's after Led Zeppelin and have sold approximately 150 million records to date. They are most famous though for their classic Smoke on the Water, which is probably the ...more
I'm always shocked when I mention Deep Purple and no one has heard of them.. I've only met ONE PERSON who did! Yet they are such an incredible band. I feel very fortunate that I found some of their records in a seller's old collection... they've become one of my favorite rock bands since.
They were never liked by the press and never belonged to any 'scene'. They were too good as musicians to be taken seriously by the likes of rolling stone mag. To this day you gotta be part of some hip press inspired happening to be seen as great. Have you ever heard any body try to cover any of there tunes? Bloody hopeless. no-one gets close. Even the best musicians around today totally fail.
They're on this list twice - GruungeV 2 Comments
Just what I thought would happen...I see this list that says "Most Underrated Bands", and I see possible the most famous band ever, Queen, and right below that, the most famous hard rock band ever, Guns and Roses.
What's more, Nirvana, Deep Purple, ABBA, Pink Floyd, Poison and even Motley Crue is on this list.
Are you people frigging retarded? Or do you just act like it? Do you not know the damn meaning of underrated!
Bands like Alter Bridge, Rush, Exodus, Testament, Sepultura, The Mayfield Four, Citizen Swing, Philm, Tremonti and Venom are underrated. Go buy a damn dictionary!
The Kinks have countless amazing rock and pop songs, from You Really Got Me and I Need You, to Waterloo Sunset, to Lola and Powerman. They, like the best bands of their time, changed their style through the years, from their fast, simple, catchy tunes, to softer rock, then hitting heavy. You just can't rate them lower than the Doors, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, and even the Rolling Stones. Once you hear Dave Davies's rough-edged guitar playing, you can't deny them as one of the greatest bands of all time. They're only underrated, because, like The Zombies, another British rock band at the time, the band just had bad connections (they didn't have George Martin).
How the hell is Pink Floyd and Queen underrated?
Easily the most underrated band ever. Had the Kinks gotten their music out before the Beatles, they would have ruled the world.
A consistently ground-breaking body of work, often with a hard rock sound verging on heavy metal (thanks, guys! ). Real rockers and prolific writers of great music.V 3 Comments
They sure are very underrated indeed. It appears that a lot of people notice their most famous songs ("Always", "A Little Respect", "Sometimes") but they (especially critics as well) do not notice the extreme talent and chemistry this pop duo has. They have hardly won any major music awards (Grammy's etc. ) or just awards at all (just one award in their entire career for nearly 30 years), their songs hardly got to No. 1 in the charts, their debut album "Wonderland" flopped and did not get the attention that it deserved, hardly any of their albums and songs get a brief mention on the best albums/songs of all time lists (even though I believe they should since a majority of them have stood the test of time in my opinion), hardly any famous and well-respected musicians in the entire music industry cite them as influences and some casual listeners can be homophobic towards this band. But most of their music is among the most beautiful I have ever ...more
I hate hair metal and one of the number one reasons is great talent became music posers in my book. Yes it was a noble effort getting chicks to like metal but metal does not need pretty boy, crotch grabbing hankie on your head nimrods. This is uploaded to be about Satan or horror movie themes. - drkhouse1978
Unjustly labeled as pop metal because of their looks (well, and music) in their early days. Their second and third albums are true classics. I read that Tom Keifer bust his voice in the early 90's. Nevertheless, they didn't get the attention they deserved before that either.
Hiding awesome musical talent behind the pretty faces and great hair.
These guys should be treated better than this!
Good Prog Metal and the foundation of TSO. Rest in peace Paul O'Niel. - drkhouse1978
The redhead is so hot! - Singer4Freedom
These guys are pretty well-known these days, but couple years ago they were seriously underrated. If you still haven't heard any of their songs, you oughta give this rock band a try. You will enjoy it
Really talented bunch of guys!
Hope more people start listening to them.
These guys deserve so much more credit for the AWESOME stuff they do Myles Kennedy is a god Mark Tremonti is so underrated as a guitarist. Scott Phillips is a great drummer who not many people know about and Brian Marshell is brilliant on the bass.

Criminally underrated band! Songs like "Love Destruction" or "The Wasteland" are overflowing with power, energy and raw attitude. Brilliant couple of albums between "Drugs, God and the New Republic" and "Salutations from the Ghetto Nation" should have put this band on Top Ten best lists instead of Top Ten underrated. Do yourself a favor and check them out!
This is truly an Underrated rock band
Just listen to: "The Losers" "Lullaby" "The Wasteland" "Children Of The Winter" "The Party" "The Golden Shore", and judge for yourself
Awsame band whit epic ballads, asskicking rock songs and great lyrics
Awesome band that always gets overshadowed by the other big bands at the time.
The best power metal band. And power metal is the
Best so it belongs here. You should hear the
Three keeper of the seven keys albums
They are sadly absent from or down far low on so many lists. They're great, and they even have some super catchy songs that never became popular.
Now before people call me a "cyber bully" or whatever, I am just stating MY OPINION. If you don't like it, then that's too bad isn't it! It has to be Tool! They should be number 1, although all but one of the rest (I am not keen on Journey) are extremely underrated and more than brilliant, Tool is definitely even more so. Out of the top ten, the next most underrated is... Supertramp. Their music is awesome too, especially "Rudy". Their are a LOT of underrated metal bands actually, and they are mainly progressive. When people say "What is the best metal band? " you always know what the answer will be - Metallica. NO! Yes "Ride The Lightning" is great, but after that they went pretty average. Ever listened to "Master Of Puppets"? Well to my ears, the majority of it is terrible! 80& of the people who enjoy listening to metal will say that not only is this THEIR best, but the best metal album ever! I don't know if I'm weird or anything, ...more
I find it absolutely ridiculous that tool is as underrated as they are. They are my favorite band ever. I know this because when I can't listen to any other band due to boredom, I can put in any tool cd and they always take me on a ride. This is a band that sells out MSG in 15 minutes, but isn't considered as good as Korn ( if you watch those BS VH1 100 greatest lists. I mean seriously is freak on a leash better than sober. I think not. By the way I am a fan of korn too, but they are not better than tool) So that's my two cents.
This talented group of musicians do not get enough credit for the music they create. Each one of them are considered to be some of the best of today in their respected instrument. It's sad that pop artists that create songs with a computer are favored over original artists like these. Plus their songs are technical, the sounds are unlike any other, and their lyrics make you think to find an underlying meaning
Tool is so underrated that they are underrated on a poll featuring underrated bands.V 2 Comments
Truly one of the most underrated bands in history
Heard em once on tune in radio. they're good
Seriously they just sang music they thought people would like rather than go out on a limb and write something from the heart. I don't think they had the depth to do that anyway
No they never were underrated - christangrant
Horrible Overrated list!
Guns N' Roses are one the best rock bands of all time, but it's sad how life's people know themV 2 Comments
v're tokin about the band wich composed such awesome songs such as chop suey! BYOB, toxicity, lonely day, aerials
and they are so low... come on they are the most underrated band eva
One of the most underrated bands of all time! - moose4life19
They are not so underrated where I'm from but when it comes to the media ya the are. oh and they are my fav band ever next to the doors. - thegreatone
great bandV 3 Comments
Did anyone actually read the title? I mean, Abba, Queen, System, Tool, Pink Floyd= underrated? Lolwut?
Anyway, supertramp is a great band and deserves more credit than they get.
they're just awesome :D the music is melodic, but is funky and rocking when it has to be, and the lyrics are really great. just a really great band altogether
I often hear piano parts and rythyms in today's song that make me think, that sounds a lot like Supertramp. If there's any knock on them, it's that they often put two or three solid-to-great songs on an album with eight others that weren't so great. If you compiled their "greatest hits, " that cd would be up there with the greatest hits of any other artist on this list
Very underrated band, but one of the best...!V 1 Comment
They can't be underrated if they just totally suck
You can't say Queen is an underrates band! Are you kidding me? That's like saying football is underrated. Pink Floyd is my favorite band, but I would never describe them us underrated, and they are more underrated than Queen. If anything, Queen is overrated. Yes is another great band that is very, very underrated. Rush is very, very underrated. Nickelback just plain sucks. Whoever voted for Queen as underrated are idiots.
Rush is the greatest band of all time, yet they are severely underrated. They have so many great albums yet the music critics don't give a crap about this band and that, my friends, is just plain ignorance. Though bands like Led Zeppelin are amazing bands and are some of my favorites, they are extremely overrated and overexplained. Rush is one of those great bands yet no one gives a flying frick about them when they really should
Rush are one of the most technically proficient bands to walk the Earth; combined with a great lyricist in Neil Peart (who is also possibly the greatest drummer of all time) and a passion for theatrics, you get pure epic. However, despite having the fourth most continuous platinum and gold albums ever, they never really hit mainstream. Critics simply didn't 'get' them.
