Top 10 Oscar Predictions for 2019
This is kinda late, but I’ve been busy. Here are some predictions as to who will win in each category. No contest. This will obviously win, and it honestly should. It's an absolute masterpiece. Very epic. It's about time another movie came in to give Disney and Pixar a run for their money. Incredibles is great, but Spider-Verse is easily the better film. If Incredibles 2 wins, that proves the Academy has a Disney/Pixar bias. Spider-Verse has been kicking Incredibles 2's butt at the other award shows, and I have a feeling this won't be any different.
I love Incredibles 2, but this deserves the Oscar.
Oops, I spelled Black Panther wrong. Just kidding. It's not often that a Netflix original movie gets nominated for Best Picture, especially a foreign language one. I really do think Roma will take home the Oscar because of how much people have been praising it as a masterpiece. Which means you're going to hate what I have to say about it: I didn't like it. It took me three days to get through it. I was so bored while watching it. So many scenes could have been cut out. There was just way too much filler. I also didn't find the characters to be very interesting. Cleo is the main character, but she's so one-dimensional. I was not impressed with this film. Personally, I think A Star is Born should win. That's a movie with actual heart and emotion. But as long as Vice doesn't win, I'll be fine. How that movie got nominated for Best Picture is beyond me.
I haven't seen The Wife, but I've heard great things about Glenn Close's performance. She even won awards for it, so there's no doubt she'll win this award. Unless Lady Gaga manages to get it. And honestly, I genuinely think Gaga should be the one to win. I was really impressed with Gaga's acting skills. She managed to show so much emotion in each scene. Maybe if I watch The Wife, I'll change my opinion. Anyway, I think Glenn Close will win, but I think Lady Gaga should win.
I really didn't care for Vice, but at least the performances were great. Christian Bale was especially amazing in this role. He really captures Cheney's personality perfectly. There were multiple moments where I forgot that was even Christian Bale. It just feels too real. I have a feeling he might take home the Oscar. Rami Malek was great too, so I won't be upset if he wins. Still, I think Christian Bale has this in the bag.
Gaining weight and shaving one's head do not constitute an Oscar-worthy performance. Bale was playing the same character in this as he has been for the past 10 years. Dull performance. Sam Rockwell was even worse. God bless Amy Adams, the saving grace of this mediocre cast.
Most of these categories are pretty easy to guess, but for this one, I honestly have no idea. So, I'm going to take a wild guess and say Infinity War. I hope I'm wrong on this one. Solo has pretty good visuals, Ready Player One has okay visuals, and I haven't seen First Man, but the trailer was nice to look at. However, I personally think Christopher Robin deserves the Oscar. You might think I'm crazy, but the CGI is flawless. They did a great job making the characters look like real stuffed animals. Even when the humans physically interact with them, it looks real. I don't know why people think it shouldn't have been nominated. Unfortunately, I have a feeling either Infinity War or First Man will win. By the way, the reason why Infinity War didn't get nominated for Best Picture is that it doesn't hold up as its own thing. You'd have to watch all the other Marvel films to understand it. At least you can watch Black Panther without watching the other films and still understand what's going on.
Given that the costumes were a major part of The Favourite, it would make a lot of sense for it to win Best Costume Design. They did a great job capturing the 18th-century style. I was going to say that I think Mary Poppins Returns should win this one, but after thinking about it, I believe The Favourite is more deserving. The only costumes that stood out to me in Mary Poppins Returns were the ones they wore in the animated sequence. Either way, Sandy Powell wins.
I am not a fan of Lady Gaga's music, but this is one song I love to listen to. Although, I personally don't think it's the best song in the movie. Sometimes I feel like they only nominate the songs they remember the most, which is why This is Me from The Greatest Showman was nominated last year. Still, Shallow is a great song and deserves to win. I'm sure it will, since so many people praise it, and it has already won awards. Kendrick Lamar doesn't stand a chance.
Green Book is a great movie, okay? I highly recommend it. Given how much people have been praising Mahershala Ali in this movie, I'd say he has a really great chance of winning, even though he doesn't deserve to. I'm sorry, but what exactly did he do in this film that was Oscar-worthy? He was honestly kind of bland here. Personally, I think Adam Driver should win. I haven't seen BlacKkKlansman, but Adam Driver is indeed a great actor, especially in the Star Wars films. But no, let's give it to this bland performance. Ugh.
As mediocre as this movie is, it was very well shot. There were a lot of moments with very minimal use of cuts. They would film scenes in one take. That's not easy to do. So yeah, I'll give it that - it has nice cinematography. Although, I still think Paddington 2 should've gotten nominated. And I have no idea how The Favourite got nominated. As much as I liked that movie, the cinematography was garbage. What was with the constant use of a fisheye lens?
Bao is a highly praised short film from Pixar. It's about a dumpling that acts as a metaphor for a woman's son who left her. Some people love this short, even to the point of saying it was better than the movie it was released with. Obviously, I disagree because I thought this short was just okay at best. But since I haven't seen the other shorts that got nominated, this is the only one I can judge. Since it's Pixar, I have a feeling it will win the Oscar.
Good actor, but this film was a mediocre one that got so many things wrong about the band.
