Top 10 Moments from The Aristocats (1970)
Now for the most memorable moments from The Aristocats (1970), the first Disney animated movie made after Walt Disney's passing.
Possibly the most memorable song in the movie.
After Duchess plays her harp, Scat Cat and the alley cats launch into a big finale, jumping onto the piano and stomping on it. Their wild performance causes the piano to crash through the building, eventually landing on the ground floor - giving new meaning to the phrase bringing down the house.
In this charming scene, Berlioz plays the piano while Marie sings "Scales and Arpeggios." Toulouse, covered in paint, joins in, playing along with Berlioz, while Duchess sings alongside Marie.
To ensure he inherits his mistress's fortune, Edgar drugs Duchess and her kittens and rides off to dispose of them. While passing through the countryside, he is attacked by two dogs, Napoleon and Lafayette. They give chase, and the basket containing Duchess and her kittens flies off, landing near a bridge.
My favorite part.
To ensure Duchess and her kittens never return, Edgar tries to lock them in a trunk and ship them off to Timbuktu. However, O'Malley, with help from Scat Cat and his gang, foils Edgar's plan. They incapacitate him, free Duchess and the kittens, and lock Edgar in the trunk, shipping him off to Timbuktu instead.
After Edgar captures Duchess and her kittens again, Roquefort rushes to inform O'Malley. O'Malley then instructs him to seek help from Scat Cat and his gang, a task Roquefort is reluctant to carry out given he's a mouse. He nearly gets sliced by Scat Cat until he finally remembers O'Malley's name, convincing the gang to help.
Duchess, O'Malley, Marie, Berlioz, and Toulouse accompany the geese Amelia and Abigail to Paris, where they meet their Uncle Waldo. Uncle Waldo is clearly drunk, having been marinated in wine, and barely avoids being butchered. Amelia and Abigail then escort the stumbling Waldo home.
Georges, Madame Adelaide's lawyer, appears to help draw up her will. Edgar suggests they take the elevator, but Georges - who resembles Mr. Magoo, like a lot of older people - refuses and instead insists on heading up the stairs. Edgar struggles to assist Georges, and more hijinks ensue as climbing the stairs proves to be a real challenge. At one point, Georges grabs Edgar's spandex with his cane before launching onto him, leaving Edgar no choice but to carry him the rest of the way.
