Top 10 Moments from Fun and Fancy Free (1947)
Here are the top moments from yet another Disney animated package film, Fun and Fancy Free from 1947. This film follows two stories. The first is about Bongo, a circus bear who escapes captivity and finds love in the wild.
The second is Mickey and the Beanstalk, a classic fairy tale adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk. It stars Mickey, Donald, and Goofy as they rescue a magic harp from the clutches of a giant.
Mickey, Donald, and Goofy attempt to return the harp after she lulls the giant to sleep. Mickey tries to tie Willie's shoes to prevent him from following them, but it's futile.
Willie wakes up, glares at them with red eyes, and gives chase.
Following Donald's attempt to butcher the cow, Mickey is forced to sell it. While he's away, Goofy and Donald sing about all the things they plan to eat when Mickey returns with the money from selling the cow.
However, their happiness quickly turns to anger. Mickey, instead of returning with food or money, comes back with magic beans. This angers Donald, who throws the beans on the floor, where they fall into a hole.
After weeks of starvation, Donald finally snaps. Out of desperation, he decides to try and butcher the cow. However, his efforts are thwarted by Mickey and Goofy, who restrain him from killing their cow for food.
Bongo ends up watching from afar as Lumpjaw and some other bears celebrate. They sing about how bears show affection with a slap. It's there that Bongo finally realizes what Lulubelle was trying to convey.
He rushes to return his affection for her, but before he can, Lumpjaw begins a fight with him over her.
During the scene, another rival bear, Lumpjaw, enters. To Bongo's shock, Lulubelle slaps him. Since he has spent his whole life in circus life, he doesn't understand that bears show affection by slapping each other.
Lulubelle continues to slap him, hoping he will understand her intention. After she tries slapping him again, she accidentally slaps Lumpjaw. He then claims her for himself, and Bongo leaves saddened, thinking she doesn't love him.
After the beans fall through a hole in the floor, a giant beanstalk begins to grow overnight. It takes the house, along with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, on a ride while none of them wake up from all the commotion.
Bongo's first night in the wild turns into a real nightmare. He is constantly kept awake by the noise in the forest, followed by a lightning storm that chases after him.
That was creepy, the shadow snaking over everything, the castle turning jet black, the thunder and lightning, and the huge hands reaching towards the harp. It certainly gives you goosebumps.
