Martin Canine's Most Listened To Songs Of This Week (April 1st to 7th, 2019) According To His Smartphone

I wasn’t immediately blown away by Capital Bra’s tenth (! ) number 1 hit in Austria. It’s based around the classic Modern Talking song “Cheri Cheri Lady” from the 80s, but turned to a soothing, autotuned trap song for the hookah bars. But to be honest, the more I listen to it, the more I really like what he made out of the song. Despite the same melody, it turned out completely different but nonetheless as addictive.

Like I mentioned before, Capital Bra is kinda hit or miss, and often, the songs that sound good at first wear off fast, but this is the opposite. This just might become my favorite song by him (“5 Songs in einer Nacht” was so far).

Another song that I like more and more, the more often I choose to listen to it. Yes, it's basically just a normal RnB song, but that second half is just so bat shiznit insane with all the samples and all, it’s actually much fun.

Shirin David is on her way of becoming Germany’s number one female rapper, and that even though she only had three hits so far. “Orbit” was a top ten hit, “Gib ihm” was a chart topper in Germany, and we’ll see how “Ice” will do, but it’s received quite some attention so I guess it’ll at least be a top ten hit. I like her. Of course, she’s just pure flexing and sexual innuendo, but she has a good oldschool flow and a cool, badass vocal delivery.

Mero is one of the most talented recent newcomers of the last months. German hip hop really needed a rapper who masters both the technical perfection of battlerap and the catchy hooks of trap, and songs like “Hobby Hobby” show his full potential. Rightly a number 1 hit.

This eurodance inspired rendition of the classic Russian folk song is actually a lot of fun. Really love how the tempo speeds up from very slow to rather fast not only in the beginning, but also halfway through the song. A near perfect party song.

Skurr skurr skurr. Eskeetit. Swag. Lean. Brr!

Ava Max’s debut album is one of my most anticipated records to come out in the near future. “So Am I” is not only a worthy follow up to “Sweet But Psycho”, one of the biggest and best hit songs of the last months, it’s actually the even better overall package. Sadly, it did not do as well on the charts as its predecessor. Come on guys! If Capital Bra can top the charts with ten songs, some of which have actual hit potential and some if which don’t, Ava Max can top the charts with two outstanding singles as well!

It was time for me to go on a 2008 teen goth rock flashback. Looking back, this is quite the heavy guitar track. Actually a lot harder than emo was. The guitars in the main riff feel like a T-Rex’s roar.

When I named “you should see me in a crown” one of the best songs of last year, Eilish was an up and coming artist that, at least over here, barely anyone knew. I never considered her to be the next big star - she was too edgy, too indie, too scary, too little pop. Then came “bury a friend”, her most experimental to date, became a top ten hit, and suddenly she’s a household name. It’s justified. But she was the last person I expected to become that well known. Now her “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? ” album became one of the most anticipated of the year, and I expect it to do chart highly this week. “Bad Guy” is the standout song. It has this minimalistic, bass heavy pounding beat that makes it a lot easier to get into, but still has this unsettling, positively sleepy presence Eilish has shown on past records.
