Best Songs From Dream Theater's Black Clouds and Silver Linings

The Top Ten
  1. The Count of Tuscany

I love this song! It's super epic and almost 20 minutes long. It tells a story, but if you listen to it, you'll see just how epic it is.

For me, it's this song, and it's not even close.

    No competition here.

  2. A Nightmare to Remember

I attempted to play the drums to this but failed. I can't handle a 16-minute song, while Portnoy can play for 8 hours!

    This song is absolutely perfect.

  3. The Best of Times

13 minutes long, and I love this song. It has a great solo at the end. This is the second-best song, in my opinion. The Count of Tuscany is the best, but this song is sad because it talks about Mike Portnoy's parent who passed away. It's in loving memory of Howard Portnoy - I think it's Mike's father.

This song is emotional but also has great music. I hope it moves up to number two.

  4. The Shattered Fortress

This song is a sequel to The Root of All Evil, because you hear the refrain from that song a couple of times in this one.

The ending of the Twelve-Step Suite. Just a masterpiece - should be at least number four!

And don't forget about The Glass Prison reference at the end.

  5. A Rite of Passage

Personally, this is my favorite song on the album. It's so good, partly because it's not as long as the others. Eight minutes is still pretty long, though. Not to mention, it's a lyrical work of art!

The keyboard solo makes me laugh every time! Especially the part that sounds like a kazoo!

Why is this last? It's just as good as the others.

  6. Wither

  7. Odyssey

  8. Tenement Funster / Flick of the Wrist / Lily of the Valley

  9. To Tame a Land

  10. Take Your Fingers from My Hair

  11. The Contenders
  12. Stargazer
