Best Songs on Rainbow's Down to Earth
Down To Earth is the 4th album by rock and metal band Rainbow, released in 1979.The album contains rock and metal songs.
This was the first album after Dio departure and the only one with vocalist Graham Bonnet. Blackmore considered Ian Gillan (ex-Deep Purple) and Peter Goalby of Trapeze as replacements for Dio but eventually recruited Graham Bonnet - a singer with very powerful voice and remarkable vocal skills.
Blackmore also recruited his old Deep Purple bandmate Roger Glover (bassist) as producer but producer Glover ended up playing bass on the album and provided lyrics for all songs.
Personnel:
Ritchie Blackmore – guitar
Cozy Powell – drums
Graham Bonnet – vocals
Don Airey – keyboards
Roger Glover – bass guitar, producer
Love this. The atmospheric intro just invites you to listen and the solo is truly rewarding. The lyrics and vocals are pretty good too.
The first proto-symphonic metal song. Sounds so epic and really impressive. And so ahead of its time...
I like the hard rock sound of this a lot. Not sure why it is the first track on the album though.
Hard rock at its best.
It's a bonus track to the 2011 deluxe edition. I think it makes sense to add this instrumental track to this list because it was a B-side of "All Night Long", a single related to the original album edition of 1979.
I like this instrumental very much.
I can recommend listening to this song and I Surrender back to back.
Probably my least fave on the album to be honest. Bit too poppy and upbeat for my Rainbow songs. Although ironically I love Street of Dreams, which is equally poppy and successful but less upbeat.
Rainbow's first hit single. I am not surprised - the song has a pretty commercial sound.
Bonus track to the 2011 deluxe edition - it was a B-side of "Since You Been Gone", 1979.
