Top 10 Worst Pokemon Held Items
Held items are some of the most important aspects when it comes to Pokémon battling. However, they're not created equally. Some are simply outclassed by other items, and some are simply way too niche.Note: I'm not including items that are obviously meant for early game such as Oran Berries, or items not meant for competitive battling like the Everstone.
Literally detrimental unless you REALLY hate Chandelure and you REALLY wanna punch it in the face with Close Combat after tricking this item to it or something.
Why does this even exist? If it made your attacks ignore the target's type immunities, it would be a cool item, but it doesn't even do that. And even then, just use a coverage move... I don't know what they were thinking with this item.
Literally only useful if you're worried about taking damage from four moves: Low Kick, Heat Crash, Heavy Slam, and Grass Knot.
And if you're using any of those moves, it makes them weaker. What's next, we're gonna get an item lowering the damage from priority moves?
Raises your Pokémon's accuracy for ONE TURN if it hits low enough health.
Why shouldn't you just use Wide Lens or Zoom Lens again? Well, if you REALLY wanna hit that Focus Blast on Turn 17, go for it, use this item, just don't expect it to do much else.
Whoa, Enigma Berry? I've never heard of that berry before! It looks cool, it sounds cool, it has to be great, surely! What is it?
It's a berry that heals your Pokémon for 25% of its health if it survives a super effective attack.
Really? You're probably not gonna live a super effective attack in a lot of situations, and even if you do, you're not getting back much health to make a lot of use of, and it only works once. Just use a Sitrus Berry, man. What a waste.
This is honestly a really cool idea for an item. If the opposing Pokémon makes contact while using a move on your Pokémon that's holding this item, it gets passed on to them. Same thing happens if you make contact with the opponent.
Whichever Pokémon has it takes a bit of damage each turn. But if you're stuck with it, enjoy that chip damage you're getting. Honestly, why not just Trick a Toxic or Flame Orb instead?
This item prevents your opponent from doing anything about your shield-wielding Slaking's ability! Awesome! Now you get to loaf around every other turn just like you wanted!
Or, you could just have a battle where this item is completely irrelevant, which is most of them.
If you're facing a weather team, great! You MIGHT live Kyogre's Water Spout or Tyranitar's Eruption!
But what if you're not? Well, this item becomes completely worthless. It's just one of those items that's way too niche to be worth considering most of the time.
Similar to Grip Claw because it also affects moves like Wrap and Whirlpool. This time it just makes them do slightly more damage.
Yeah, Wrap still just isn't that good of a move anymore, and if you're making a stall team based around it, Leftovers and Heavy-Duty Boots are probably just better.
Don't you LOVE Gen 1 Wrap? Don't you wish it went on longer? Well, there's an item for that!
It's still not as absurdly annoying as it was in Gen 1 because thankfully they nerfed the hell out of that move, but hey, it lasts longer! It might be useful on Perish Trap sets, but that's about it. Again, Wrap and similar moves it affects fell off so hard.
This is actually a personal favorite of mine. Some of my favorite moves are moves like Drain Punch or Giga Drain, and that basically adds that effect to all your attacking moves, which I think is a cool concept, but it's to a weaker extent. And I mean a MUCH weaker extent.
It's so much weaker that you might as well use Leftovers. You can also use Big Root instead if the Pokémon you're using has Drain Punch, Leech Life, or similar moves. I hope this item gets a buff one day.
The Newcomers
This item may look useful since it increases the critical hit ratio, but only for a specific Pokémon: Chansey. But why this Pokémon and not Blissey? Chansey's offensive stats are abysmal.
Not a bad item, but I would only use it on specific Pokémon personally.
