Top 10 Best Brazilian Rock Bands of All Time

The Top Ten
  1. Legião Urbana (Urban Legion)

Renato Russo is the best Brazilian singer ever. The band in the 80s was like a religion. Millions of people across the country loved them. There is a song called Faroeste Caboclo, which is over 9 minutes long with extensive lyrics. Everyone knows how to sing it by heart. Legião Urbana released their first album in 1985. Their career ended in 1996 when Renato Russo died. In just 11 years, they became icons of rock in Brazil. They have at least 40 hits. It is amazing.

If you understand Portuguese, the lyrics are more valuable than gold. Neither Bob Dylan's nor John Lennon's lyrics are as poetic as Renato Russo's lyrics against corruption and oppression. He is a genius.

  2. Sepultura

Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band from Belo Horizonte. Their first album, Morbid Visions, presented a proto black metal sound and featured Wagner Lamounier of Sarcófago. Over the years, their sound has evolved across albums to include elements of thrash metal, groove metal, and death metal.

They deserve the number 1 spot for sure. They are the only Brazilian band that can rival bands from other countries. Listen to Arise, Roots Bloody Roots, and Refuse/Resist, and you'll see what I mean.

They are really good, and it doesn't matter what their name is. It's a good band, and their songs are the best ones after Legião Urbana. I would listen to them if I were you.

  20. Engenheiros do Hawaii

Interesting outfit revolving around Humberto Gessinger, who sings, writes, and plays the electric bass guitar. The songs are loaded with whimsical tirades and political content, leaning to the left and nationalist side.

They are total crap. Watered-down blue-eyed soul.

Seminal in the development of a particularly Brazilian rock style in the sixties, when people often still considered electric guitars offensive.
