Top 10 Best Vert Skaters
Vert skating is where skateboarding reaches new heights - literally. It's all about big ramps, huge airs, and mind-blowing tricks that push the limits of what's possible on a skateboard. The best vert skaters aren't just athletes. They're pioneers of the sport, constantly innovating and inspiring the next generation. From legendary names you've probably seen in skate videos or competitions, to newer faces carving their way onto the scene, these skaters have defined what it means to dominate the halfpipe.
Hawk was my motivation when I was a skater back in the day. I never made it pro or anything, but growing up as a skater, then becoming a surfer later in life, taught me to respect life and enjoy every moment to the fullest. I still hit the vert occasionally, even at 40 years old.
He was really good but not the best. He was the best at selling the sport.
He will always be the greatest skater of all time.
Aussies dominated. They were the number one and two skaters in points while Tony was third. Tas was going to do the 900, but for some odd reason, he wasn't in the same match as Tony Hawk when Tony landed it. Tas was always in the Best Trick Category. He also beat Tony with a shattered rib. If you don't believe me, watch All The Mayhem on Netflix.
I loved Tas as a kid and never understood why he disappeared off the scene until I watched All This Mayhem. Talented brothers, tragic story, and a fantastic film.
Watch All This Mayhem on Netflix. The Pappas brothers were the best! A tragic story for their family and a bit about skateboarding selling out.
He landed the fakie-to-fakie 900, and in Tony Hawk's Secret Skatepark Tour, Bob is one of the best skateboarders ever. He also landed the Christ Air backflip!
Not only one of the best, but in my opinion, the most humble and appreciative!
Best skater ever. He should be #1 or #2 on this list.
Bucky is the best. He just needs to relax and take his time sometimes. I notice that in some competitions, he is under a lot of pressure (which is totally understandable). However, he gets really pressured and needs to not let the stress get to him.
I'm not clowning at all. He can do so many difficult tricks that very few skaters can do anywhere. Throughout competitions, he blasts some really complicated tricks, but most of the audience is not aware of the difficulty. He does a lot of tricks switch, fakie, or just adds a cool twist, but the crowd overlooks many of them. They just see a spin or flip that looks cool and cheer.
My point is, you rock, Bucky!
Pierre is a great vert skater. A lot of people like Tony because he was a pioneer of vert skating, but why Bucky Lasek has as many votes as Gagnon, I'm not sure. Pierre's style incorporates street tricks on a vert ramp and definitely deserves copying. Bucky, I like you, but you have to go!
He changed vert! And sorry Tony, he did the 900 air while gambling with gravity before you.
By far the most talented vert skater ever, and he still holds many records.
He always goes bigger than any skater. Danny Way is and should be in the #1 spot.
He is the best and even has the medals to prove it. He has more medals than any other skater at the X Games, totaling 22. He should be up there with Tony Hawk.
Style points plus devotion to God.
Best style in vert ever, period.
The Newcomers
Tas and little brother Ben were the best, period. They used to regularly kick Phoney Tony Hawk's butt, but Phoney Tony was more marketable than the badass Aussies.
Number two in the world for a reason. His career was cut short due to being caught with cocaine.
Steve is an innovator, and there was nobody who could go higher.
He was the first and, I think, still the only one to land a 720 no-grab ollie and the first to land a 720 mega ramp jump. He also walked away from a 47-foot freefall, only to rebound and win gold medals two years in a row in the X Games.
Your competition is yourself. Thanks, Darren, for doing so much for skateboarding, especially vert!
No one ever attacked with such power and force. He was also an amazing guy and friend.
