The Top Ten
Definitely a masterpiece. The guitar solo gives me chills. And very deep lyrics too. - Userguy44
One of the greatest songs ever written
So sad my brother just commited suicide
"I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free
Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye" - Metal_Treasure
Take the world w/all it's sin - it's not fit for living in!
"He had enough, he couldn't take anymore... The wind kissed him goodbye and then he died".
"This is my life, this is my life
I'll decide not you
Keep the world with all its sin
It's not fit for livin' in
Yeah! I will start again
It can take forever, and ever, and ever
And ever, but I'll still win." - Metal_Treasure
God...this song was a beast, it was mind blowing and great - Ananya
About a soldier who suffers PTSD after war and eventually commits suicide. - Metal_Treasure
A boy committed suicide in class. "Jeremy spoke in class today... Try to forget this, try to erase this from the blackboard". - Metal_Treasure
Yeah I think its about that. - zxm
This song sounds so happy that people rarely associate it with suicide but it is about suicide ("Jump! ").
David Lee Roth has given various accounts of the meaning behind the lyrics, but he usually says they are about a T.V. news story he saw where a man was about to kill himself by jumping off a building (Roth thought, "Might as well jump"). - Metal_Treasure
This song is basically about drug abuse (addiction) but yes, they mention suicide in the lyrics. - Metal_Treasure
Weird I get more of a child abuse vibe to this song... - CaptainMowzker
About a man who loves his wife but she is terminally ill and he assists her suicide. Then kills himself. Lyrics are sad but somehow romantic. Vocals, music and lyrics are great.
"She still has sunshine in her weary eyes
A bed of roses to testify my love
A promise made, now I will make a try
There is no power in earth to tear us apart". - Metal_Treasure
"Cut my life into pieces
I’ve reached my last resort, suffocation, no breathing
Don’t give a f&@k if I cut my arms bleeding
Would it be wrong, would it be right
If I took my life tonight, chance are that I might
Mutilation out of sight and I’m contemplating suicide
Cause I’m losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I’m fine
Nothing’s alright, nothing is fine
I’m running and I’m crying" - Metal_Treasure
"You’re getting closer to pushing me off of life’s little edge
cause I’m a loser and sooner or later you know I’ll be dead
You’re getting closer
you’re holding the rope and I’m taking the fall
cause I’m a loser
I’m a loser yeah" - Metal_Treasure
This song should be number one on this list because not only does it raise awareness for suicide, but it's an anti-suicide song. GC wrote this song for all those people who feel like giving up on life, telling them to hold on. This song saved my life when I was considering suicide. If it can do that, I think it deserves the top spot on this list.
"This world, this world is cold
But you don’t, you don’t have to go
You’re feeling sad, you’re feeling lonely
And no one seems to care
Your mother’s gone and your father hits you
This pain you cannot bare" - Metal_Treasure
Is there any song that produces tears like this one?
Yes, definitely. - tbell4ever
Real remains real
It shows reality
The song is both depressing but uplifting. It deals with topics of depression and loneliness but states that there are always better times ahead of you. - phillysports
Well, it's supposedly about coming home after a long tour, but just look at those lyrics! - lavashooter
Id never thought I'd die alone
Another six months ill be unknown - Lord28
While the Johnny Cash version deals with self-reflection and regret, the Nine Inch Nails version is much more bitter and cynical. In the context of its album, it basically reads as the protagonist's suicide note. - phillysports
I don't get suicide vibes from this song... - CaptainMowzker
Is that what this song is about? - FondaSu
''And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom''
My God one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Goosebumps to be very honest.
"So step back from that ledge my friend..." Enough said. - CaptainMowzker
This song is dedicated to Shaun Morgan's brother who committed suicide in 2007.
A very dark and poignant song about the suicidal tendencies which we all have deep down beneath our skins, only for tragedy or lack of wellbeing to make more prominent, and for those affected to be isolated and surrounded by fear. It does make you think, even if you are content at the present, something could happen to you to spark this tendency, and in the blink of an eye, it goes beyond your control. - PositronWildhawk
Definitely a suicidal song, just listen to these lyrics;
To escape life itself now seems the only solution;
With relief I look forward of letting go of the pain,
Finally... there is peace in my soul;
To lie dead without a concern, without a tear...
I want to die, but really... I am already dead"
Listen to the song. Need I say more?
I am appalled that I had to add this song to the list! It should've already been on here. This song literally saved my life when I was half way through a suicide attempt. I know people say that about music all the time, but I honestly don't know if I'd still be here if it wasn't for this song.
The lyrics are so deep and Adam's vocal performance is so emotional. Then all you have to do is add in the amazing guitar riff and awesome video clip and you have the best anti-suicide song of all time.
Play this at my funeral!
Beautiful and bleak.
This is one of the few songs that is not as much about the person who commited suicide, as it is about how his friends deal with it.
We actually know little about this guy, or why he killed himself. What we know is that he was in a self-proclaimed "gang", that are actually more like bohemians, that tried to become rebellious rock and rap artists but failed to gather any fame or success. They wanted to be legends (Casper compares them to Kurt Cobain, Bon Scott, 2Pac and Jim Morrisson in the first verse - bit of a foreshadowing as we know nothing about the suicide until the chorus), but after he killed himself, the clique parted ways with each heading into different directions. No one really made the big career they were aiming for. According to Casper, this song is somehow rooted in reality.
Ironically, it was the album where "Michael X" is on that brought Casper to huge national fame, basically he reached everything that he said didn't work out in the song. - Martin_Canine
Not really a suicide song more of a cheesy love ballad. - CaptainMowzker
This song by female rap trio Tic Tac Toe is about a friend's suicide and how the three women cope with it, one of them feeling guilty and drinking, one suffering from depression and the third hating the many curious pseudo-friends that only want to know want to know what happened and are interested in sendation. Jazzy and Ricky deliver their verses with good lyrics and insane rhyming schemes (a pity they have been seen as pop rappers because they could write some really awesome lyrics) in a melodramatic manner that fits the sentimental piano and strings in the beat. But that's not why this song is gripping to me. No, the real reason is Lee's verse, which is the second one. Not only does she have the most intense delivery and lyrics, Lee actually breaks out in tears halfway through the song, and the song even stops for a few seconds. This is absolutely authentic and real. Lee's husband commited suicide and I am sure that while recording the song all the memories came back. - Martin_Canine
