Top 10 Things Undertale Actually Got Right that Most Other RPGS Really Didn't

The Top Ten

Not requiring ludicrous amounts of experience/skill grinding in order to beat it (outside of the Genocide run)
Actually taking the time to fully and thoroughly characterize the characters, right down to literally every generic enemy you fight
Allowing you to actually dodge attacks through your own videogame skill rather than just arbitrary stats and dumb luck
Making choices actually matter
Having a relatively simple and easy-to-understand plot that leaves just enough to the imagination to provide a surprising amount of story depth regardless
Making the battles actually fun rather than just an annoying nuisance like they are in most RPGs
Making players actually legitimately feel for the characters
Making the "cute" characters cute in an actually realistic and reasonable way (in other words, not like Riki and Moogle)
Being surprisingly dark and serious yet lighthearted and humorous at the same time
Having a simple yet deep combat system

Joke bosses

Nerd characters
Battles where literally the only strategy you need is to just repeatedly attack the enemies as much as possible and heal if/when your health points get low
Not including magic as a command option in battle
Anime hairstyles

Actually making sense and making its best effort to avoid resorting to "video game logic" at all costs
Not being ridiculously melodramatic and obnoxiously egotistical about itself (outside of Hotland and the True Pacifist ending, at least)
Giving you the option to actually NOT kill enemies
Allowing the player to still (at least somewhat) have fun with the game even after completely and utterly breaking it
Not making itself difficult in obnoxiously cheap ways (for example, having enemies inflict ridiculous amounts of status ailments on the player)
Being extremely easy and unbalanced yet still fun regardless
Side Characters
Clone enemies
Villains that are blatantly obvious evil counterparts to the main protagonist
Plot twists in general
Being able to recover your energy automatically at save points without using special items
