Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Three Days Grace

The Top Ten
1 They’ve been together since 1992

Adam and Neil met in high school and pretty much started playing music together instantly, then Adam moved to Norwood in 1994 and that’s where he met Brad.

2 Their band name was Groundswell until they changed it to their current name in 1997

Brad heard it when he was going to college for accounting, and it basically means if you had 3 days to pay off a debt, would you be able to do it? Brad shortly dropped out of college so they could really focus on their music career.

3 Their self titled album was actually not their first
4 A few of the songs on their self-titled album were originally released in 2001
5 The band played “Animal I Have Become” live in 2005 before the lyrics were changed
6 The band released a song called “This Movie” in 2000, making it their only song to feature a guest vocalist
7 They were a 5-piece at one point until lead guitarist Phil Crowe and rhythm guitarist Joe Grant left the band

Both left in the late 90s because they wanted to focus on other things. Adam said in an interview that it was nothing bad and that he still talks to Joe.

8 After Phil and Joe’s departure, the band became a trio until current lead guitarist Barry was recruited in 2003

That was when Adam was the lead guitarist of the band.

9 Most of “One-X” was written during Adam’s time in rehab

In 2004, Adam got addicted to OxyContin. The addiction eventually became so bad to the point he was taking 10-20 every single day, but about a year later, he went to rehab where he wrote most of the lyrics to “One-X” and got clean from his addiction.

10 A lot of their songs are written with acoustic guitars

Neil has stated that they believe that if you can strip it down to just one acoustic guitar and it still sounds good, then it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a good song.

The Contenders
11 The original lineup was very different

I think most people know that Barry isn’t an original member, but Brad isn’t either, and I didn’t even know this until about a week or 2 ago. The original members were Adam Gontier, Neil Sanderson, Tommy Gardner and Ian Breukkelar. I found this out from a video from 1993.
