1 Avatar Avatar is a melodic death metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden, formed in 2001 by drummer John Alfredsson and guitarist Jonas Jarlsby, with bassist Hendrik Sandelin and vocalist Johannes Eckerstrom joining soon after. guitarist Tim Ohrstrom joined the band in 2010, after the departure of Simon Andersson.

It's great to see Avatar on the top. Although I don't consider them melodic death metal, more like a progressive thrash melodic groove death power metal band. Just Phenomenal musicianship.

2 The Black Dahlia Murder The Black Dahlia Murder is an American melodic death metal band from Waterford, Michigan, formed in 2001. Their name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia.

They are original when they blend the brutality of regular death metal with the emotional point of view of the melodic death metal side. it's brilliant, and the fact that they are not in the top 5 is weird.
