Few bands were so innovative as constituting there own genre for the longest time while inspiring many other artists. Voïvod really became great when they left their early brand of brutal trash metal (War and Pain, Rroääärrr! ) for a more technical, entirely new sound that started to emerge with Killing Technology and really crystallized on Dimension Hatröss and their masterpiece, Nothingface. Angel Rat and The Outer Limits were almost of the same caliber, inimitable and immediately identifiable. People tried to fit them into a box, to no avail: they invented terms like "space metal" or "future metal" to describe Voïvod, but the label pretty much fitted only the band from Jonquière, QC. The band pretty much sounds like robots singing about a dystopian future...
After that, it gets somewhat disappointing... I never really got into the Eric Forrest period (that sounded more like technical death metal, with growling vocals), and Jason Newsted's (Jasonics) arrival signaled a ...more
