21 Be'lakor Be'lakor Be'lakor is an Australian melodic death metal band from Melbourne, Victoria. The band's name originates from the character Be'lakor the Dark Master, in the Warhammer Fantasy game setting.

Only discovered these guys 2 years ago. Better late than never. Every song on every album just gets better and better with every listen. Love Eluveitie and Amorphis, and many others on this list, but Be'lakor is my no. 1!

I was not such a big fan of melo-death before I heard this band. They totally blew me away. A-MA-ZING!

Of Breath and Bone is a flaweless album. Simple as that. While the rest of their discography one can debate, Of Breath and Bone is such an amazing album that it has to launch them into the top ten at the very least.

22 Eternal Tears of Sorrow

This band is really underrated. Must be in top 5 if not better. I was in love with this band as soon as I heard it.

A Virgin & A Whore is a hell of an album, also Chaotic Beauty. - Flav

Good fall/winter music. At least in Canada!

The River Flows Frozen is a piece of art

23 Edge of Sanity Edge of Sanity Edge of Sanity was a Swedish progressive death metal band that, alongside Opeth, is commonly regarded as being the first to fuse extreme metal styles like death and black metal with progressive rock. Their sound is often described as "Progressive Melodic Death Metal".

Purgatory Afterglow is a masterpiece - more people should know this!

They must be number one!

Progressive melodeath. Great riffs, great mixture of clean vox and Death growls. Extremely underrated band! - ryanrimmel

How are they not in Top 10? This band is amazing!
They are incredibly creative in songwriting and are also pretty skilled! This is excellent progressive melodic death metal.

The first time I heard Crimson I thought "its okay..", but when I listened to it the second time, I realised what a masterpiece it is! Crimson 2 is similary incredible!
Maybe start with "Purgatory Afterglow", its easier to get into and rules also! - Lemoon

24 Omnium Gatherum

Their latest album is a masterpiece, and none of their older ones are bad either. The goosebump inducing rolling melodies, double bass blasts and deep growl vocals are all very well balanced and produce an unforgettable listening experience.

This band are so underrated! They deserve to be much higher on this list! - louiscurlydunham

The best Band period. Not just opinion, They have actual solo's non of that easy drop d crap, with 10 year old nephew double bass pedal idiocy. Goosebumps and transitions up the ass! Listen to the side by side to any band and you will understand the masterpiece.

The best on the list! Great Musicianship!

25 Nightrage

Gothenburg melodic death metal done right. Should be higher on the list.

Very surprised this band isn't much higher. Incredibly last two albums.

26 Dreamshade

Dreamshade's album The Gift Of Life is probably the best melodic metal album I have ever heard. Great cleans and the screams sound great. Amazing band!

What? Why isn't these amazing band higher. They have amazing guitarists, awesome screamer and a great clean vocalist. This band got me into melodeath and I really think that they're worth a listen

30 Scar Symmetry Scar Symmetry Scar Symmetry is a Swedish metal band from Avesta in Dalarna County, Sweden, formed in 2004. The band has released six albums, with seven released singles.

Scar Symmetry definitely is something very unique! If you want something a cut above the rest and something truly unique they are the way to go! Their vocalist kicks ass too! They have a sound all their own!

Scar Symmetry truly has a sound of their own which makes it hard to categorize them. They are on a completely different level compared to the rest of these bands because they are melo death/ Power metal in my opinion. They truly combine my 2 favorite genres into a one of a kind band! Love their music, and Per Nilsson is literally one of the best metal guitarists out there! I recommend listening to every album, but if I had to pick one, it would be eitherThe Singularity (Phase I - Neohumanity) or Holographic Universe! Just amazing!

Its very different than most metal, and it is incredibly unique. I suggest the album Holographic Universe

Should be Top 10. Great solos, vocals, everything. - NuMetalManiak

32 Death Death Death was an American Death Metal band formed in 1983 by Chuck Schuldiner. Death is considered to be one of the most influential bands in heavy metal and a pioneering force in death metal. its debut album, Scream Bloody Gore, has been widely regarded as the first death metal record, while the band's more.

Everything from Human forward counts as melodic death metal to me. And with how absolutely amazing those albums are, Death definitely needs to be in the top 5 at least. Plus, it's to Chuck Schuldiner's credit that this list even exists, so... - AngryByrd

This is very awesome and one of my favorites but this doesn't belong to melodic death.

How could anyone forget Death? What about the legendary Chuck Schuldiner. I mean seriously, they are really good.

Nice band with a great singer

35 Into Eternity Into Eternity

One of the few faces in modern Canadian metal. You can't go wrong with them. Stu's amazing range, gorgeous musicianship and progression... there's just so much. Definitely very underrated too. "The Scattering of Ashes", anyone?

Like death growls? As well as high octave Halford-like screams? Into Eternity is the band for YOU!

Severe Emotional Distress awesome song by them!

These guys are amazing. The very first melodic-death metal band I ever listened to and they are still my favourite. Their new album feathers and flesh is amazing along with just about every other song they have made.

Just look at the vocalist- he's not only a good singer, but also a great... actor? I highly recommend their songs "Bloody Angel" and "Hail the Apocalypse".

I actually don't believe they are the best but nevertheless, I believe they need more recognition. They are a great band and that is why my vote is for them.

I really think they should be higher up on the list black waltz, hail the apocalypse and their newest album feathers and flesh are wicked albums recommended songs:the eagle has landed, smells like a freakshow, bloody angel, blod, roadkill, etc.

38 Nothgard

Nothgard might not be all that popular, but they are hands down one of the best melodeath bands out there. Listen do "Blackened Seed." You will be blown away, I promise.

39 Disarmonia Mundi

I just discovered this band and can't believe how good these guys are. If you like In flames come clarity this band is for you. I can't get enough!

Probably one of the best bands that have every existed, check it out guys.

It's not well known, sadly.

Nile aren't melodic and this should be at least number 10.

Best melodeath band ever. Mind tricks and the isolation game are fantastic albums.
