I've never been able to pinpoint it, but there is something special about this film. Not the story, that is for sure.
The Original of 1933 is really a cult movie. So, I won't say anything about that. As for the 1977 King Kong movie, the Peter Jackson movie is a thousand times better. Naomi Watts is so much better than Jessica Lange. Naomi Watts should have won an Oscar for this movie.
One of the most underrated movies EVER!
It was'nt as good as the original film, but I would say it's the best remake out there. Peter jackson is a legend!V 1 Comment
Way better than the original.
There are a lot of similarities to the film A Night To Remember (1958) - westofohio
This movie is not a remake - Y2K
My all time favorite movie and my favorite romantic film as well - Szonana
The story is well written and the acting is fantastic. - Shadsilvson11
1 of the very few remakes I like more than the original
Such a good film. - ParasN2000
What's this doing on the list?! It was produced by Michael bay for goodness' sakes!
It was still a real good movie, it definitely doesn't feel like a Michael Bay movie and it was made before Michael Bay started to make horrible movies.
Remember Michael Bay actually did make some good movies : the Rock, Armageddon, and the Bad Boys movies come to mind - germshep24
Oh come on the original didn't have the book name like the remake.
Roald Dahl hated the 70s movie, and his wife said he would've liked the remake.
Now, Johnny Depp is awesome in this movie, and the soundtrack was amazing Tim Burton stuff (Not nearly as incredible as Edward Scissorhands, Burton's all-time best film, but still cool). However, that doesn't change the fact that the original with Gene Wilder as the title role was infinitely better. The Oompa Loompas seemed more like real people, and not...you know...minions from Despicable Me. Also, there aren't any unnecessary subplots in this film that only serve to stretch the run-time, and Gene Wilder is incredible as Wonka, the most ingeniously subtle performance I've seen my entire life, whereas Johnny Depp (Though, again, is awesome in this movie) is all over the place. However, this film does have a lot of heart and a lot of elements that Roald Dahl lovers like myself will adore, and Freddie Highmore is fantastic as Charlie Bucket. This is a good movie, don't get me wrong, but it's not Edward Scissorhands good.
Although tim burton bombed with his first remake (planet of the apes) he did very well with this remake even if its not as good as the original
Gene wilder was crap in the originalsV 3 Comments
Along with the Parent Trap has been remade in just about every generation - westofohio
The think with the Parent Trap and Freaky Friday is that none of the movies have been iconic - germshep24
No way that this is better than the Original. Don't tell me that Alec Baldwin is better than Steve McQueen. Kim Bassinger is a good actress but she's not as convincing as Ali McGraw was for that movie. Don't get me wrong, I think that this one is well "re"made and very entertaining to watch but it's not better than the Original.
Most people probably don't know this is a remake
A Fist Full Of Dollars is a remake of a 1961 Japanese film called Yojimbo, from director Akira Kurosawa - westofohio
This 1967 classic is a remake from what movie? Seems that your list was troll ed. See many Original movies in here or remakes that are certainly not better than the Original.
Masterful character-driven western that vastly transcends the original.
I love this movie so much!
One of my favorite movies of all time. Definitely in my top 5
On one hand Sissy Spacek was the perfect Carrie on the other hand The remake has the coolest final scene.
The only real flaws was that in the remake Carrie somehow knows about her powers and is somehow not an outcast at the school she is barely even bullied in the movie making the final scene feel pointless - germshep24
Are you kidding? Carrie with Sissy Spacek is a classic. They will never make a Carrie better than the Original.
Better than the cartoon, in fact I love both versions!
Worst remake ever!, after that the films were bad ass - westofohio
Not even close to being as realistic as the first movie located in urban america
To me it wasn't as believable as the the first film - westofohio
WHY IN THE NAME OF COMIC-BOOK MOVIE STARDOM IS THIS MOVIE ON THE LIST?!
People got bored and thought this was just supposed to be a list of movie remakes - germshep24
