Best Scream-Style Vocalists

The Top Ten Best Scream-Style Vocalists

1 Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) Chester Charles Bennington (March 20th, 1976 - July 20th, 2017) was an American musician, singer, songwriter and actor, best known for being the lead singer of Linkin Park. He also participated in side projects like Julien K and Dead By Sunrise. He committed suicide in 2017 after a period of depression. more.

His voice matches how there music is played, I think he has on of the greatest screams of all time in the hard rock genre. The way he can scream and sing and mash it together into one sounds is just simple magnificent in my opinion!

Most screams, are somehow disturbing to me... But I don't know why, but I feel emotion in Bennington's scream (and voice) like no one else's. The way he sings is also full of emotion and gives you the feeling a song has to give.

Chester Bennington made screaming mainstream. And Oli Sykes was influenced by Chester Bennington. If he hadn't attended that Linkin Park concert at 14 years old, he wouldn't have wanted to become a rockstar. End of.

I can't even fathom how Chester Bennington is not in first place right now. He is easily the greatest screamer ever and not only that, but he can sing brilliantly on top of it. People are saying how good screamers can hold their scream for long, well in "Given Up" Chester Bennington does a 17 second scream, which goes unrivalled in my honest opinion.

2 Mitch Lucker (Suicide Silence) Mitchell Adam "Mitch" Lucker was an American musician and lead singer for the deathcore band Suicide Silence.

He was a truly amazing vocalist. Although Avenged Sevenfold is my favorite band, Mitch Lucker tops everyone (including M. Shadows) on this list because of his powerful voice.R.I.P. mitch!

Mitch was a legend! Forever in our hearts. RIP Mitch Lucker.

Mitch Lucker's lows are much deep than Alex's and high scream are super high pitched live Mitch Lucker should be the first.

Mitch was probably the best Deathcore vocalist who has ever lived and probably will be for a long time, maybe even forever. His style of screaming influenced so many, as did he as a person. RIP Mitch Adam Lucker you will forever be in my heart.

3 Alex Koehler (Chelsea Grin)

So that triple scream he does at the beginning of "sonnet of the wretched" is beyond anything my ears have ever been graced with and I would kill to learn how to do it! Does anybody have any idea what that kind of scream is called?

No disrespect to Mitch Lucker but it's just sad how he's placed on top just for the fact that he's dead, it's another Tupac phenomena where he's not truly the best, but is made out to be for the fact that he's dead. Alex has some of the most blood curdling screams I've ever heard and has that same thickness in his voice live. I've heard both bands played live and although Mitch is also good, the depth of his voice doesn't carry over to live shows, and noticed that he never exhaled in a manner to conserve air and would always run short of breath on deep growls easily.

I am blessed with what I've been listening to by them. Chelsea grin has given me hope to not worry about what type of music I listen to. I have taken time out of my life to learn as much as I can from him. So one day I can also be on a stage with like he is. He really is a amazing singer. I will follow the path I'm following like he did. I do hope to be like him but better my lows are good but they don't sound good enough and highs are on there way but I will do everything I can to be grather then chelsea grin and Suicide silence that's a promise to the world!

Alex on first! Great job! He's very talented screamer and deserves this place! His lows can kill a man and highs can destroy windows! He showed what he can do on Sonnet of the Wretched and it is awesome! Even on "Evolve" his screams are just magnificent! AKGrin FOR THE WIN!

4 M.Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)

Best singer by far on here. No one can sing like him and still scream like a maniac too. Guys like mitch lucker and Alex are talented but they do not sing only scream. If you like screams where you can understand the words easily then listen to this guy. So much talent. And sevenfold is the best band on here too

M. Shadows Is The Beast Screamer On The World because The Scream Duration Is So Long, Like In The Second Heartbeat ( Live LBC ) Before Synyster Gates Playing Melody Solo He Is Screaming 10 Second!

How is Dani Filth not on the top of this list? In fact, how is he not on it at all? But M. Shadows is? Unholy Confessions is like the only album he screamed regularly.. Everything after is sporadic at best..

I've seen these guys 5 times live and they put on the best shows I've seen in my life. Matt Shadows is the best screamer in my book

5 Oli Sykes (Bring Me The Horizon) Oliver Scott "Oli" Sykes is a British musician, best known as the lead vocalist of the band Bring Me the Horizon. He also founded the apparel company Drop Dead Clothing.

Number 1 forever
nobody can match him in His first album

Oli Sykes scream is so rich and varied from the demonic growls and screams to his purposefully depressed "yells" (not quite sure what to call them, from their new album) that really stress the emotion of the song. That and its just awesome.

I really really love his style and stuff in the album Count your Blessings. BMTH needs to go back to that, it was amazing!

In count your blessings time were the best, in suicide season too, in 2010 he changed his styles and now he can't screams anymore but his songs still beautiful

6 Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria) Danny Robert Worsnop is an English musician, singer and songwriter, prominently known as the lead vocalist of rock bands Asking Alexandria and We Are Harlot.

From his high screams to low growls to clean vocals. Nobody has a better overall range with their voice than Danny. He should be number one on this list forsure. No disrespect to anyone above him on this list I'm a fan of all of them. But if I had to choose one vocalist to lead a band I'd choose Danny over everyone else.

Danny boy, you need to work on your screams as they are not as great live. His high and low screams are great but he needs to work on stop being LAZY!

You are my idol, you are the best vocalist there is because you do your cleans, growls, scream and yells damn perfectly.
I wish I can live your life for a day man, you should be thankful for having such an epic voice. Stand up and scream, dan!

Every scream is good, but your powerful scream is amazing from them. Do not stop dan, we'll always wait your song with AA!

7 Corey Taylor Corey Todd Taylor was born in December 8, 1973. He is an American musician, author, and actor best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the Nu-metal band Slipknot and hard rock/alternative metal band Stone Sour.

Why isn't Corey higher on this list!? He's one of the most powerful and diverse rock/metal singers out there. Although I guess he's more of a growler than a screamer.

Corey taylor isn't good with growl. Only in the first and in the second album of SLIPKNOT he was very powerful, but now he have lost some talent...

Cory is ok not as good as Chad aplin but not bad

What is he doing in no.9 he should be in top 5

8 Phil Bozeman (Whitechapel)

Shadows sucks. He shouldn't be even mentioned with the likes of philybo and alex koehler

Saw them live recently.. Best band I've ever seen live with the best screams. Jesus I want to see them again.

Brutal growls and brutal vocalist. Phil and Danny Worsnop are the best I've heard.

Honestly should be number one.. Words cannot describe

9 Ronnie Radke (Falling in Reverse) Ronald Joseph Radke is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, musician, and record producer born in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Have you seen this guy? Screams are insane and on stage preformance blows you away.

He's amazing I've seen him live it blew me away

His voice is nearly orgasmic. I love him so much. I'm not going to walk up to him, rip open my shirt, and scream "take my virginity! " But he's amazing.

Amazing voice and very sexy at that. Ronnie needs top be at the top of this list.

10 Ebi Ebrahim Hamedi is a Persian singer born in June 19, 1949, known better by his stage name Ebi. more.

EBI has the real tenor voice

He's Galaxy of Voice ( Master of sound of World In 1994 )

He is god of voice

He's Galaxy of Voice ( Master of sound of World In 1994 )

The Contenders

11 Dennis Lee (Alesana)

He uses growling And high pitched yell screams he doesn't growl very well the are quite hollow

Absolutely stunning Preformences, Especialy in "The murderer" Hymn for the Shameless" and "The Lover"

12 Austin Carlile Austin Robert Carlile is an American former musician and current baseball coach from Pensacola, Florida. He is the former lead vocalist of Attack Attack! and Of Mice & Men. After leaving Of Mice & Men, he went to coach youth baseball in Costa Rica.

What is Andy Biersack doing on this list? Anyway, Austin really deserves his spot in the top 5! He doesn't do a lot of lows in OMAM but in Someday Came Suddenly you'll hear he can do lows!

He has the best fry screams I have ever heard

Austin should be in the top 5 instead of Alex Koehler I just listened to him it sounds like it has had so much editing

Austin Carlile's screams are so versatile. They're perfect for MetalCore

13 Kyo (Dir en grey) Kyo is a Japanese musician, singer, lyricist and poet. He is best known as the vocalist of the metal band Dir en grey. He has been with the band since its inception in 1997 and was formerly in La:Sadie's.

Lol rank 28? My my... This guy here is better than any vocalist listed in this list. He is the king of overtones and master of high pitched vocals. Just go and listen to different senses or dozing green if you don't believe me.

Why the hell is kyo in 18th he should be on the top 10, he has amazing screams, growls, shrieks and an amazing voice

I don't think any vocal can really compare with how Kyo's ability. Period.

Best gutturals ever, come on.

14 Andy Biersack (Black Veil Brides) Andrew Dennis "Andy" Biersack, formerly known as Andy Six, is an American singer and pianist. He is the founder and lead vocalist for the American rock band Black Veil Brides, and is its only remaining original member.
15 Adam Warren (Oceano)

Adam has amazing shouts. His growls and screams are unbelievable, too! He puts diversity in Death Metal/Deathcore. Completely amazing! Rock on Oceano!

16 Jonny Davy (Job for a Cowboy)

His range is literally from the lowest gutturals up to nearly the highs of Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder. Completely flawless technique covering every style and key point of metal vocals.

He's amazing in studio and live he sounds just as good which is hard to do in their style of music - stone5206

His lows are almost guttural and his highs blow away my ears. Also he has the mos amazing pig squeals ever.

M. shadows doesn't even scream anymore... take him off this list... come on dude

17 Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) David Randall "Randy" Blythe is the vocalist and lyricist of American heavy metal band Lamb of God and side-project band Halo of Locusts.

Most invigorating growl ever!

Unique groove metal singer

Rnady sure have a golden unique voice, mixing all different vocal techniques that are so hard to master, and he has amazing highs and astonishing lows! Rnady sure is the best for me

18 Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) Travis Ryan Collins, who goes by the stage name Travis Ryan, is an American musician known for being the vocalist of the Deathgrind band Cattle Decapitation.

It's a wonder how vocalists who don't even scream much, or have a very generic scream are counted as the best. In truth, 99% of them can't perform as well live as they do in-studio, especially not Alex Koehler. Most of those vocalists sound the exact same or just never scream. Travis Ryan has used a unique style to accompany his gutturals and blood-curdling high screams. He also has his melodic screams that sound like he's singing. Place that with his lyrics - which are well thought out and hold meaning along with the intensity - and he makes one of the most solid vocalists to date. Screaming like everyone else only gets you so far; you also have to bring something new along with a fresh take (or at least not a rehash) on lyrical content.

Travis Ryan is the best no doubt. He has awesome lows and theses melodic high screams as if he is singing while screaming. Yea kyo from dir en grey can sing and has awesome screams he has the ultimate combo but this is scream vocals and travis is clearly better at that.

Seriously have none of you listened to CD? Travis Ryan has insanely guttural low with his own brand of high pitched screams and can do much more than half the people on this list. He should be in the top 3 at least

He should be on top 10. He has the craziest vocal ever! He's so underrated

19 Tim Lambesis (As I Lay Dying) Timothy Peter Lambesis is an American extreme metal musician and producer, best known as the founding member and lead vocalist of American metalcore band As I Lay Dying.

He is the best. Period. Just listen to The Blinding of False Light at around 2:35 into the song, it's amazing. And he is also an amazing songwriter and producer. As I Lay Dying is the greatest metalcore band ever, great passion, and meaning to all their songs.

This dude is a beast. Perfect for any genres of metal.

Perfect for deathmetal, and metalcore. Has some brutal highs and deep gutural lows live.

20 Mike Hranica (The Devil Wears Prada)

The Devil Wears Prada has been my favorite band since I started listening to "heavy music" Alex Koehler is my favorite scream vocalist but mike definitely deserves number 2 for his unique style.

Mike Hranica's voice has changed a lot throughout their records, but still retains a lot of emotion and that makes his screams sound beautiful.

I seriously DO NOT understand why he is not number 1.

I don't think he's the best but he has had some really kickass moments. In my personal opinion he sounds the best in the zombie ep with brutal lows and chilling highs.

21 Jeremy McKinnon (A Day to Remember) Jeremy Wade McKinnon is an American musician and producer, best known as a founding member and the lead vocalist of A Day to Remember.

Jeremy is one of the few vocalists that I feel is able to replicate both his screams and clean vocals live, and he gives a great and highly energetic live performance.

Jeremy's low-pitched growls are amazing. Enough said.

Jeremy is a mix of ML and Randy Blythe with amazing clean vocals as well

Definitely has one of the sickest screams and growls and deserves to place at least over some in the top ten... Cough oli fagget sykes cough

22 Andrew Velasquez (Crown the Empire)

Crown The Empire - Bloodline

23 Krysta Cameron (Iwrestledabearonce)

Not a huge fan of their recordings but live she is amazing. - ShaggysWorld

24 Chrigel Glanzmann

Chrigel is by far one of the top 10 screamers currently to date. His growls are outstanding - he can whisper, high scream and make you want to go to war feeling confident you'll win the war. Plus he actually sings about stuff worth hearing. His lyrics are epically historical and so are the topics his songs are based on (Celtic, Gaulia and those who the Roman Empire tried to extinct)

His growl is rl good...

25 George Pettit (Alexisonfire)

His screams are great live and in studio, plus they match Dallas' and Wade's vocals perfectly.

He is ten times more consistent than most of the people at the top of the list not to mention a better sound

Yeah, I defenetly sure he should be in top 5, there won't be anyone screaming like him, in his first 2 albums

26 Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder) Trevor Strnad is an American singer and musician mostly known as the lead vocalist and frontman of The Black Dahlia Murder.

Trevor should be in the top 5. One of the few vocalist who has truly mastered the art of screaming. Live sounds just like studio, and he's never caught out of breath. A sign of a good vocalist is clear diction, Trevor has this.

Trevor's highs are awesome, and the lows are brutal! It sends shivers down my spine.

Best high and low combo out there.

27 Chad Gray

Bring this man up on the list - seanbass18

Chads the man enough said

28 Jesse Leach Jesse David Leach (Born July 3rd, 1978) is an American musician, best known as the vocalist and frontman of the band Killswitch Engage. Leach also fronts lesser-known metal bands, such as Seamless, The Empire Shall Fall and Times of Grace.

How is he not on the top 5 at least he's amazing

One of the best voices ever

His live performance is legend.

Heafy scream is like satan who came from hell..don't stop screamin heafy

34 Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage) Howard Jones (Born July 20th, 1970) is an American Heavy Metal vocalist. He currently fronts the band Light the Torch (Formerly Devil You Know), but is best known for his tenure in the band Killswitch Engage from 2002 to 2012 and was a vocalist for the now defunct Blood Had Been Shed.

One of the greatest metal vocalists ever.
Listen to his clean and metal ranges its sounds perfect

35 Alex Varkatzas (Atreyu)

In my opinion Alex one of the best metalcore vocalists in the history of metalcore. I really liked his screaming in the suicide notes album.

Dude you haven't Heard him huh! He Screams The Hell out

Uses obvious damaged vocals to his advantage

Alex Varkatzas' screaming compliments Brandon Saller's vocals in most of atreyu's songs, if you haven't given them a listen, you have to

36 Richard Sjunnesson (The Unguided)
37 Anders Fridén (In Flames) Anders Fridén is the vocalist/lyricist of the Swedish metal band In Flames. Fridén was also the vocalist of Passenger, a side project.

Doesn't scream anymore, but in his heyday, his scream is the main reason I started listening to death metal.. Gave me goosebumps.. Reroute to Remain is prolly the best album when it comes to Anders's vocals/screams..

Been around for years. Is one of the best in my opinion

He got me into screaming vocals wich I at first despised, best screaming vocals for me with no question...

I can't believe biersack is above anders friden, biersack can hardly scream, friden blows him out of the water

38 Eric Vanlerberghe (I Prevail)

Eric has such amazing screams! He should get way more respect even though he is in a new band, but they're amazing and Eric's screams are top notch! 10/10 would listen to!

Eric is amazing, best I've heard!

39 Dave Stephens (We Came as Romans)

Not only does Dave sound amazing on recording but he kills it live!

44 Davey Havok (AFI)

Havok's singing and versatile screaming style have influenced many (as well as several of the competition on here). Give "Sing The Sorrow" a listen, and you will understand more credit is due.

Never heard a better voice.

45 Tyler "Telle" Smith (The Word Alive)

The deadly
Vocalist is here! - metaljackson

46 Shane Told (Silverstein)
