Popeye the Sailor
Popeye the Sailor is a fictional American cartoon character created by Elzie Crisler Segar. The character first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929. Over time, Popeye became the title character of the strip, reflecting his popularity.
One of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time, Popeye has been voiced by several different voice actors. He was also played by the late Robin Williams in his very first film role. Popeye fights for what's right and usually has his trusty spinach, which grants him superpowers to take on various foes, mainly his rival Bluto.

Popeye's father, who is shown to be cranky and stubborn. He is portrayed as a pretty terrible father. In his first cartoon appearance, "Goonland," Popeye finds him on Goon Island and tries to rescue him, but Pappy refuses to acknowledge Popeye as his son. Later, when Popeye is captured by the Goons, Pappy eats the spinach Popeye had mislaid and saves him.
