Popeye the Sailor

Popeye the Sailor is a fictional American cartoon character created by Elzie Crisler Segar. The character first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929. Over time, Popeye became the title character of the strip, reflecting his popularity.

One of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time, Popeye has been voiced by several different voice actors. He was also played by the late Robin Williams in his very first film role. Popeye fights for what's right and usually has his trusty spinach, which grants him superpowers to take on various foes, mainly his rival Bluto.
J. Wellington Wimpy

A total moocher who always asks to borrow money, promising to pay it back on Tuesday, but he never does.
Olive Oyl

Popeye's girlfriend, voiced by Mae Questel, who also voiced Betty Boop. Olive is usually the damsel in distress, often getting kidnapped, usually by Bluto.
Bluto

Popeye's longtime rival who constantly causes trouble, usually by kidnapping Olive Oyl. When Bluto becomes too much for Popeye to handle, Popeye brings out the spinach to even the odds.
Poopdeck Pappy

Popeye's father, who is shown to be cranky and stubborn. He is portrayed as a pretty terrible father. In his first cartoon appearance, "Goonland," Popeye finds him on Goon Island and tries to rescue him, but Pappy refuses to acknowledge Popeye as his son. Later, when Popeye is captured by the Goons, Pappy eats the spinach Popeye had mislaid and saves him.

Popeye's true and original main antagonist, though mostly in the comics due to her absence from the early cartoons.
Shorty

Popeye's navy fellow who is incredibly obnoxious and can be a horrible burden on those around him. In one episode, he proves to be such an annoyance that after he ruins Popeye's birthday party, Popeye literally shoots Shorty.
Eugene the Jeep

A mysterious animal with magical abilities who acts as a pet and friend to Popeye.
Alice the Goon

A member of the tribe of strange humanoids known as Goons, who live on Goon Island. Alice serves as the leader of her people but was later enslaved by the Sea Hag. Popeye helps her regain her freedom.
