The Top Ten
1 Walhalla

Walhalla is a beautiful village nestled in a valley filled with lush green tree ferns, huge mountain ash trees, and incredible wildlife. The small village consists of colorful little buildings surrounded by deciduous trees, making it an incredibly picturesque place.

The location is also amazing, with hardly any tourists, keeping the town free of litter and loud noise. Overall, both the town and its setting are beautiful. Walhalla feels like it doesn't even belong in Australia. It resembles a charming European alpine village. The town is peaceful, colorful, scenic, and easygoing, all in one tiny little village.

2 Bright

Famous for its autumn colors, Bright is the best place in Australia to experience the season's vibrant hues. Similar to Walhalla but a little larger and more touristy, this town is situated among large mountain ash trees and ferns in the Alpine National Park.

Bright lives up to its name. It's a bright, colorful oasis surrounded by endless green eucalypt forests and farms. The town is particularly colorful in autumn, thanks to the deciduous trees. Unfortunately, this is also the peak tourist season, so it can get quite busy. However, the stunning scenery and colors make it all worth it.

3 Lord Howe Island Settlement

On a small island in New South Wales, a small town flourishes between rainforest-covered mountains and turquoise reef-filled waters. The settlement on Lord Howe Island is simply beautiful. Despite its remoteness, the peace, beauty, and superb island scenery make it a worthwhile destination.

There is plenty to do and see on the island. The settlement serves as the perfect base to relax in a hotel with stunning ocean views or to walk around town, enjoying the beauty at a leisurely pace.

4 Binalong Bay

Binalong Bay is a beautiful beach town located in northeastern Tasmania. It consists of holiday houses and charming little shops, making it the perfect weekend getaway. The bay is surrounded by red lichen-covered rocks, adding to its beauty. You can also spot dolphins in the bay, which is really special.

While the town is somewhat touristy, it's not overwhelming. There is plenty to see and do in town, making it a great destination.

5 Broome

Broome is a lovely beach town located in northwestern Australia. The town boasts many beautiful features, including turquoise beaches with gorgeous white sand. In some areas, the sand is even red, adding to the town's unique beauty. Surrounded by deserts, Broome feels like an oasis.

The town is famous for the camels that walk along the beach as the sun sets, creating a stunning and unique sight. However, it can get very touristy and crowded during the cooler months.

6 Dinner Plain

Australia is generally considered a warm country, known for its beautiful beaches, red deserts, and lush rainforests. However, up in the Alpine National Park, in a beautiful town called Dinner Plain, winter transforms the area into a winter wonderland.

With beautiful wooden huts and hotels nestled among snow gums, this place is simply stunning. The glittery snow adds a pristine look, but the town remains beautiful throughout the year. In the warm summer months, the area becomes a lush green alpine paradise. The crisp autumn months are peaceful, with birds chirping and temperatures that are just right - not too warm or too cold. In spring, wildflowers bloom, and the melting snow leaves a vibrant and colorful village.

Dinner Plain is quite remote, making it challenging to get supplies, so visitors need to be self-sufficient. There are lots of tourists in winter.

7 Lorne

Lorne is a beautiful town on the Great Ocean Road, known for its luxury hotels and incredible scenery. It is famous for its azure beach, perfect for swimming, surfing, taking photos, and sunbathing all at once. The town is surrounded by the beautiful temperate rainforest of the Otways, which boasts plenty of ferns, mountain ash trees, mossy Nothofagus trees, valleys, creeks, and waterfalls, making Lorne a perfect location.

Lorne is also famous for the Falls Festival, which attracts thousands of people to see some of the best music in the country. Unfortunately, like most Australian beach towns, it becomes extremely touristy, especially in summer. The town can get very crowded, making it difficult to find a place to stay, but if you manage to secure accommodation, it will be well worth it.

8 Coles Bay

Famous Wineglass Bay, located opposite this town, is just one of the many features that make Coles Bay beautiful. The azure waters, rocky green mountains, and peaceful town vibes all contribute to its charm. While the town does attract tourists, it's not overwhelming.

The main issue is the cold, windy, and rainy weather in winter. However, the weather is beautiful in summer, making it the perfect holiday getaway with plenty of nearby activities, including hiking and biking trails in the famous Freycinet National Park.

9 Kuranda

Located in the Cairns hinterland, Kuranda is a tourist town surrounded by rainforests. It features vibrant markets, plenty of attractions, and unique shops ranging from candy-making to arts and crafts, all set along a mall with giant trees covered in epiphytes. The town's lively atmosphere attracts hundreds of tourists daily.

Kuranda is easily accessible by a scenic railway, a Skyrail, and a road that all lead straight from Cairns. While the rainforest setting is beautiful, it can be somewhat monotonous since there are no beaches or mountains, just rainforests with a few rivers. Despite this, the town itself is very nice.

10 Nelson Bay

Nelson Bay is a popular town on the New South Wales coast, known for its beautiful port and deep blue waters surrounded by lovely eucalypt forests. The town's setting is picturesque, and the nice little houses by the port add to its charm.
