2 Germany Germany was formally united in 1871 under the initiative of Bismarck with King Wilhelm of Prussia as emperor. The previous 'Holy Roman Empire', basically a continuation of the empire of Charlemagne/Karl der Grosse was dissolved in 1806.

It depends on who you are and basically what language you speak. If you speak English, French people can be unfriendly and selfish. Sometimes they are tired of tourists who really don't value their culture. Usually you'll find they tend to believe they are the best thing in the world (though some other importand countries are egocentric as well). But I'm sure if you try speaking some French to them, even if it's just a friendly "Bonsoir monsieur, Comment allez-vous? " They will be as friendly as you could like.
