Top Ten Countries With the Best History
Greeks were mega chads. Spartans had their culture embedded into physical activity, the ancient greeks built the foundation of democracy (don't know if that's good), greek mythology was borrowed by the cosmopolitan romans and is still interesting to this day (probably the most iconic paganism). Moving to the future, the Kingdom of Macedon at its peak by Alexander the Great is overrated in my opinion, but he was the most handsome and powerful man in the world. Though his death was tragic, his story is interesting, as well as his legacy. The Hellenistic Period wasn't all that interesting in my opinion. Moving onto the middle ages, the birth of the byzantine empire wasn't all that fun, but the greeks sustained as amongst the longest surviving empires in the entire world. Greek cataphracts, the macedonian dynasty, the komnenian restoration, all of those are interesting. Greeks abandoning their ancient culture for imperialism and christianity was disappointing however.
1. Ancient Greece - first European civilisation and the father of maths, science, English, the Olympics and more!
2. Macedonian Empire - conquered most of what was then the known world (in under a few decades) whilst never losing a battle.
3. Byzantine Empire - lasted for over an entire millennium and spread the Christian Orthodox faith to many countries.
4. Modern-day Greece, - won the 2004 Euros and currently obtains arguably the best military pilots on Earth.
One of the most peaceful countries. Never caused a war, respectful towards nature and people, one of the most beautiful countries,
Great people across it's history.
Language (of course Pheonecian language was first, but Greek was a lot richer)
Greece is the birthplace of the entire world!
Everything starts and ends here.
Take a look back in history as regards arts, science, civilization and you can easily thinks and consider it (despite your origin) as one of the most important and influential nations in history of our planet.
1) Italy has more UNESCO world heritage sites than any other country.
2) South of Italy was magna Grecia (Parmenide; Pitagora; Archimede)
3) The etruscan civilization.
4) the Roman empire.
5) The middle age.
6) In the renassance Fienze was the most civilized city in the world.
7) Galileo Galilei is the father of the scientific method.
8)Enrico Fermi is the father of the atomic era.
9) Music architecture art...
10) the food
The glorious Roman empire and when after that Europe got in the dark age the Renaissance comes up with Italy as leader.
Italy is the place of source in human civilization.
So glad to have Italian and Greek blood!
Honesty, how stupid... a country doesn't need to be around for a long time in order to have an interesting. The US had a very interesting history, since the very start of it's birth (as The US anyhow), so absolutely. You're the joke.
The U.S. is, by any estimate, the wealthiest, most powerful and most influential country in the history of the world. Buoyed by victories in World War I and World War II as the only major power not devastated, and especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union following the Cold War, the U.S. has emerged as the world's sole superpower.
My house is older than America, it hardly has a history compared to Europe, Asia and North Africa. Should be no where near the top of this list. Hardly achieved anything globally as well until post world war 2 when every other major player was devastated.
Looks like a lot of patriotic idiotic Americans have voted on this list. Most European countries have been around 4 times longer than the USA has, does the US recent history make up for only 25% or less of history compared to many other countries? Absolutely not, this is a joke
Ivan the Terrible, Russian Empire, Seven Years War, Napoleonic Wars, World War I, Russian Revolution, Russian Civil War, Communism, World War II, Cold War, etc.
fun to learn even though Russia sucks right now.
Russian imperial history is the most fascinating one so far, with changes in power and conflicts rivaling those of George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels.
Russia is from Asia.
First of all, I hate recent communist china, because I'm a burmese. But I can't argue with the truth that it has one of the greatest history in the world. Start with the Xia dynasty and end with Qing, they have developed so many new cultures along the way, including great inventions. But right after Ming dynasty, there greatness was slowly decaying, up to this day. I think Japanese invasion in WWII is involved in destroying their traction of development. Also western countries were developing so fast after the age of enlightenment, leaving china behind. Truth is I really don't like Chinese people, but their history is very interesting to study.
It has one of the best histories no doubt. Many emperors, many inventions, many states and wars has shaped this country to be one of my most favourite ones! Don't at me not even USA can beat this :)
Totally underrated history. From 5000 years ago till now, China has survived and will continue its history with the similar culture.
From dynasties to revolution to innovation...This country's history has never been told before!
This is bullcrap. Egypt has hands down best history and basically everything is still there. The US and Russia history is nothing compared to Egypt. All Italy has is Rome, Greece has good history, but Egypt has better. Talking history, Egypt makes France look irrelevat.
Fun fact: Cleopatra lived closer to the opening of McDonalds than the construction of the pyramids.
France to create two empires which allowed them to dominate half of the western world: the Carolingian Empire and the Napoleonic Empire. On several occasions they made all western countries sit (Philippe le Bel ...) and France is the country which inspired all modern democracy all countries which flaunts a flag which contains blue, red, and white is a flag that pays homage to France (the British flag being an exception).
You cannot find a country that influenced the world as France did: ideas, music, culture, literature, army, architecture, democracy etc.
One the older country in the world, built by blood and wars, amazing.
Should be number one.
How is it possible to put France at the 7th place after all they bring to the world during more than 1000 years. Same for UK, only 11th ... crazy.
History of france started around 600 ad, and even before the history is so rich with a lot of creative inventions and ideas. Its for sure one of the richest history.
India is the mother of all civilizations. When every civilization was building itself, India's glory was at its peak. In Indian text the seers and sages don't talk years, decades or millennia.. they talk eons. To top it all what indian texts considered by many modern philosophers to be work of poetry or mythology, are getting scientific validations with modern science. The temples and buildings that we see in India are so sophisticated that even modern tools and machinery cannot build many of those structures. India is not a nation, it's the very last piece of world history that is remaining on this planet. It is the responsibility of each person on this planet to own this piece of history and preserve it because it reaches to each one of us in some way.
5000 years of continuing civilization, most ancient civilizations like Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persians, Greeks, Romans, etc. have disappeared or changed far too much to be recognizable as the same thing, but Ancient India still survives to the modern-day. India and its culture still survives. India is the longest continuing civilization and culture on Earth. Indian history ranges from the Indus-Saraswati to the Vedas to many empires such as Magadha, Maurya, Guptas, Harsha, Rashtrakutas, Palas, Gurjar-Pratiharas, Cholas, Vijayanagar, Marathas, etc. There is also vast amounts of literature, art-forms, dance-forms, theater, architectural styles, temples, forts, palaces, holy places and pilgrimages, natural wonders; exploring India through its history will take a life-time.
I think its India because of the struggles we had to do against British. How a golden birds became devastated in fires of infinity. So its India. History is the proof.
India have a great history contemporary to mesopotamian civilization I.e. indus valley civilization.
Indo aryans migration.
The birth of buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism.
India needs to shrug off its british history and see past it.
I think it's Germany because Germany has history dating back to the roman empire where it stand against the invaders. Also, Germany's story really began with Otto Von Bismarck one of the best strategists in history, he tricked France into declaring war on Prussia and then afterwards occupy Paris, things that even the british had trouble to do! He did that in 6 months!
The best for applying the terror, for that reason European Union has been founded, to keep calm Germany.
They have established great states since the Xiongnu (Asian Hun, Proto Turkish tribe), their culture is very rich and they are very good at war. I love their history
They have thousands of years of history and culture. They founded the most powerful empire in history. They ruled the world for hundreds of years. This empire was a secular empire, and they ruled a hundreds-year-old empire with many races, cultures, languages and religions. They established the foundations of the modern world with many inventions. For example, they made the first robot (Cezeri), they were the first flying (Hazerfen Ahmet Celebi), they drawn the first world map (Piri Reis), they invented the cannon (Fatih Sultan Mehmet), they invented the vaccine. Also they developed the best foods.
The land, Anatolia or Asia Minor, on which the modern country of Turkey is founded today has arguably the most unmatched and amazing history of the entire world. From the Hittites to Trojans; from Greeks to Turks, Hellenism, Christianity Judaism, and Islam, no other land on our planet has such a diverse cultural heritage today--each of which has visible reflections on modern Turkish cuisine and traditions today.
It is the birthplace of Hellenism, home to numerous "firsts" of human civilization (including the first-ever city of the world, Catalhoyuk; the first-ever known temple of the world, Gobeklitepe; the first-ever university of the world; the first written armistice of human history, etc etc).
Turkey for instance has more ancient Greek cities than Greece and more ancient Roman cities than Italy. The great kings, saints, emperors, and warriors, even Virgin Mary, who walked on the land of Anatolia all left their trances and memories in that ...more
Very incredible history, from Seljuks to Ottomans and Republic of Turkey.
11th? 11th! We have done so much, existed so long. We made the greatest empire, had like 1 trillion monarchs that are still in power today. From Alfred the Great of the Anglo Saxons to Queen Elizabeth the second. Just look at a timeline and see what I mean, and before the hating starts lets me share my opinions of why some countries should not be so high, starting from the top. Greece, yes they were op back in ancient times and were the sequel of the Roman Empire, but other than that, their history in my opinion Greece was only strong back in the day. Italy had the Roman Empire, Byzantium and the Renissance. Other than the fact that they did not even exist until 1860s. They still have an extremely interesting history like Greece. But America?! AMERICA?! Like come on, Europeans and Asian nations are way older. In my opinion yes America is interesting now. But if you go back 300 years they don't even exist. Not much history is there?! Russia doesn't need much explanation. Kievan Rus, ...more
Wow! The fact that America is above us on this list is crazy. When it comes to history, they are practically brand new. The UK is above most Countries by far, in terms of history. Only Greece, Egypt, and possibly France can rival us. Anyone else is way off. We had the biggest empire this world has ever known. We fought, and have the blood of the Vikings, Romans, Saxons, French, etc. Without us declaring war on Germany in WW2 the world would be a different place. English is one of the, or the top language learnt and spoken. We have 2000 years of history. We practically made America. If it wasn't for the french coming to their aid in the revolutionary war, they would be speaking proper English. Not broken English. And before anyone starts moaning. We would've never surrendered against the Germans in WW2.
We are clearly the greatest county of all time. We saved the world twice in the World Wars as if it wasn't for us Germany would have become too powerful. We had the biggest empire the world has ever seen, the empire was truly great and we truly abolished slavery, not America. Our language is the most spoken in the world and we have had the greatest inventions e.g, electricity, the internet etc. The industrial revolution was started by the British. We are also the country that hasn't
been invaded for the longest period of time, since 1066, almost a thousand years.
Absolute crap. Our history is so vast and amazing and can only be compared to countries such as Greece and Italy no other country especially the US which has hasn't even been the USA for very long, its history is nothing compared to ours!
Extremely productive, ingenious, and culturally rich nation, with a long history of art, invention, and empire.
Iran is one of the oldest countries in the world. You could go to Louvre Museum in Paris and see the number of Iranian objects and their dates. The Iranians are very hospitable and warm.
Persia shares almost the same history as Greece. It should at lest have the second best history in this list.
I believe this should definitely be above Denmark, Canada, Turkey. by the way this is a Japanese speaking so not biased whatsoever.
What Canada, Denmark and Poland have better history than Persia? Now this is just silly.
Poland created strong and deep culture that was able to withstand countless invasions, persecutions, and total distractions. That explains why Poland did not exist on the map for 123 years but was able to rise from the ashes like Phoenix.
Poland also created culture that was able to bring together different states into the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth that was the biggest country in Europe for more than two centuries.
Polish culture values freedom and for this reason, Poland was the first country in Europe to adopt a democratic constitution, the first country to stop Ottoman invasion and Bolshevik revolution, the first country to fight Germans in 1939, and the first country to free itself from communism in 1989
Polish people have gone through a lot, after the Russian/Soviet Communists attacking Poland, and also in WWII the Germans and Hitler slaying them, it's been a hard time for the Polish, but still they've managed to stand up and be strong. By the way this is coming from a Turk.
The Polish Hussars are the greatest cavalry force in history, they were truly invincible. It also once was the biggest country in all of europe with Lithuania.
Poland should be in top 10 first of all :
Won against Ottomans most powerful at that time
The country that only got to Moscow ( Russia )
Best cavarly in history ( Winged Hussars )
Etc... and more..
Spain an the uk should both be on the top 5. ¿How can the us be the third with a history less than 300 years old?
Biggest empire ever!
Once the mightiest empire of the world, they discovered half the known world. Pioneers of the Golden Age. One of the richest histories Earth has ever seen. Proud military history. August 1385. Aljubarrota Battle. 7000 portuguese vs 30000 Spanish. Guess who won...
Battle of Aljubarrota, August 1385. 6,500 portuguese warriors vs 31,000 Spanish. Guess who won...
Discovered more than half of the known world.
Once the world's greatest empire!
Ah, home to the greatest vikings... the great heathen army is the only comment I need to leave
It should be number one. The country had many empires(at least 10 empire) to witch any country would be lucky to even have one. They became the rulers of the middle east for a good 2000 years and had culture and technologie to back them up in every aspect of their being. They were conquering civilisations while the rest of the world were still nomads. Lets not even mention Cyrus The Great and his foundation of humain rights.
Very unfair and superficial ranking! The history of the Greater Iran (known as Persia), is intertwined with the history of a greater region comprising the area from Anatolia, the Bosphorus, and Egypt in the west to the borders of Ancient India and the Syr Darya in the east.Iran is home to one of the world's oldest continuous major civilizations, with historical and urban settlements dating back to 7000 because.
Should be number one.
Should be number 1.
Its amazing mate so much rich storys about hugo and his book chest to the rival re with spain its amazing!
The Mongol Empire was the largest empire in the world.
I think Ireland is in a good place because we have a very good Celtic culture that very few other nations have. But as an Irish person I have to admit that we didn't practice it a lot around the times we were under the control of Britain. Honestly the reason we are independent to day was probably the revival of our culture a hundred years ago. If it wasn't for Celtic revival are Irish language and heritage might have disappeared. Just saying if we lost are culture we would probably have British culture and still be part of the United Kingdom. GOD BLESS IRELAND
Many people call Australia a 'young' country because it was 'discovered' in 1770. Wrong.
The culture of the indigenous Australians is 40,000 years old, the oldest in the world. If that's not history, I don't know what is.
Also, what the heck is the USA doing at 3, they are only 500-odd years old, this list is obviously influenced by stronger countries.
Criminals and aboriginals turned gold miners, shearers, and criminals (bush Rangers) turned soldiers turned athletes and inventors, what's not to like.
Very interesting world history, definitely the most interesting out of all the other american countries
I've studied Mexican history and I love it! Specially the aztecs, Mayas
