1 2007 2007 (MMVII) was a common year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2007th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 7th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 8th year of the 2000s decade.

Team Fortress 2, Super Mario Galaxy, Halo 3, Portal, BioShock, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Mass Effect, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, The Witcher, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, God of War II, The Simpsons Game, Drawn to Life, and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga - the list just goes on!

Super Mario Galaxy, Team Fortress 2, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and so much more.

This was the best year of my life, both personally and for gaming. Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, and Pokémon Diamond/Pearl were the standout games that year.

2 1998

The absolute peak of video gaming, just like 1939 was for cinema. Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid, Pokémon, and Half-Life laid the foundation for their respective genres.

My favorite game ever, Metal Gear Solid, was released this year.

Ocarina of Time is the best game of all time!

3 2004 2004 was a leap year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2004th year of the Common Era and Anno Domini designations

1. The greatest handheld of all time, the Nintendo DS, was available in tech stores and online.
2. Roblox was made but only in its Alpha stage (it was also named DynaBlocks at the time, but then they changed the name to Roblox).
3. The PSP was released.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and many other great games came out. Honestly, every game in 2004 was fantastic, but 10 years later, 2014 was a letdown.

Games with complicated plots that were far ahead of their time.

4 2013 2013 (MMXIII) was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2013th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 13th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 4th year of the 2010s decade.

This should stay at #4. It was a pretty good year for video games, in my opinion.

Grand Theft Auto V, The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, BioShock Infinite, Assassin's Creed IV, and Batman: Arkham Origins, just to name a few. Some of these games I still play today.

5 1996

Crash Bandicoot, Super Mario 64... That's an impressive lineup.

The year Super Mario 64 was released.

Noire, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Fight Night Champion, Mortal Kombat, The Witcher 2, The Binding of Isaac, Super Mario 3D Land, and Limbo. The first three alone make it the best year for gaming ever, in my opinion.

Minecraft took the world by storm, the 3DS was like a portable IMAX theater for video games, and who can forget Skylanders rising in popularity. This was such a good time in gaming. Anti-GamerGate was nonexistent, and Reddit was rising in popularity.

2017 is, without a doubt, the best year in all of gaming for me (until another year dethrones it). The amount of great games that came out this year is outstanding. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Hollow Knight, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Super Mario Odyssey, Cuphead, A Hat in Time, Doki Doki Literature Club, Sonic Mania, Metroid: Samus Returns, and even Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, which I really liked. Simply put, this year was amazing for video games, and I haven't even played all of them.

Literally every console brought their all this year, including the release of the Switch, the biggest resurgence of a company in between consoles. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Cuphead, Sonic Mania, Resident Evil 7, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Persona 5, PUBG, Horizon Zero Dawn, NieR: Automata, Doom, and Hollow Knight.

This was a great year: Fallout 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, LittleBigPlanet, Call of Duty: World at War, inFAMOUS, and many more.

The Wii came out. Mario games for the Wii were released.

Honestly, an amazing and underrated year for gaming. I'd even say Sonic '06 was a highlight. Sure, it was hated, but that's because the game was rushed. Otherwise, it would've been amazing, as it had a great concept, fantastic soundtrack, and could've essentially been Sonic Adventure 3.
