Sonic the hedgehog outranked Mario in the 8eight and 16 bit eras. Also he had more game related animations than Mario, most that turn out easier to enjoy, two longer running related game related comic book series that were good to read, better retro games, better online games even if he has one less than Mario, more abilities, a better hero, a genius sidekick, more skills, doesn't usually need weapons, smarter, has more fan fictions and fan art. In my opinion, Link should be up at 1st place. "Why? " you may ask.. Well the very first video game I've ever played was : The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time, followed by Star Fox, then Super Mario World. Well even though Mario is like, the icon of Nintendo, Link has always been my hero in video games. Also, with "LoZ : Breath of the Wild" now out, the game brought me back to when I was little, with beautfil graphics, good story and interesting gameplay, I think the Hero of Nintendo should be up in 1st place.
