I would probably consider this to be officially THE most overrated "unanimous legendary classic" song of all time (with Radiohead's Paranoid Android quite honestly being a VERY close second) and it's overproduced as hell, but the sheer amount of heart that the song has poured into it probably makes up for it in my opinion (which is of no consequence at all)
"Generic but grandiose" is a more apt way of describing it
I don't see how this song is cheesy. It was really well written, and the band put a great amount of effort in recording it.

It took me surprising amount of time to realize how ridiculously cheesy this song is. Just read any line.
This song has a little too much of that eighties vibe, but I like it more than most of the other stuff from 1987. I think that Robert Hunter's lyrics help redeem the song.
