Top 10 Biggest Texting Pet Peeves
-
Being spammed
Just because someone doesn't respond within a minute doesn't mean you should start spamming them. They could be busy. Some people need to understand that they're really not the most important thing in the world.
-
People sending every message word for word
-
People going offline while leaving you waiting for a response
I've lost count of how many times my so-called "friends" have done this to me. It's not that hard to take two seconds out of your life to tell the person you're texting that you have to go, so they don't have to sit there for ten minutes waiting for a response.
-
People making constant spelling and grammar mistakes
I don't mind the occasional typo, especially if English isn't your first language, but if it takes me ten minutes to understand what you're saying, then you really need a dictionary.
-
Being added to random group chats
Once, I was randomly added to a group chat with people from my city who shared my first name (which is quite uncommon). I didn't know anyone in it or who created it.
I was in a group chat and made some jokes, and next thing I knew, I was in a chat for people who ship. *Facepalm*
-
People seeing your text but not responding
It's not that hard to tell the person trying to reach you that you don't want to talk, or, if they did something wrong, let them know what it was so they can fix it instead of acting like a child about it.
This is my biggest texting pet peeve.
-
People arguing in group chats
If you're going to pick fights over some hot guy who doesn't even know you exist, please do it in DMs. Not everyone wants their phone blowing up.
One time, I was on a group chat, and the members got into a heated argument. It was so bad that my friend removed me from the chat.
Yes! Especially teenage group chats with their pettiness and immaturity.
-
People saying they're busy and can't talk, then spending the next 3 hours liking posts
You may as well be honest about it.
-
People overusing GIFs
-
People using abbreviations like "gtg," "brb," "ily," "ttyl," etc.
I understand that it's fun to use these, but when it's every single sentence, it becomes a game of Sherlock Holmes. These phrases are overused to the point that they don't even form complete sentences. Most phones have the option to click suggested words, making these abbreviations slightly obsolete.
Sometimes, it'd be nice to have a real conversation and not just one-word answers. This shows me that I'm not even worth the two seconds it would take you to write these words out.

People using the skull emoji in every sentence
-
?
People constantly using "yeah"
-
People overusing emojis
If your message has more emojis than words, I'm not even going to bother reading it.
-
Autocorrect
-
People sending texts like "OMG!" or "I can't believe this!" that require a response
-
People sending a text and then telling you what device or location they texted from
-
People continuing to bother you even after you say you're busy
-
People sending "???" or "hey, you there?" if you don't respond ASAP
-
People responding to your paragraph with "K"
I didn't just write an entire paragraph for you to say "k."
-
People saying something sarcastic in a group chat and someone getting offended
-
Waiting for a response
-
Parents asking "Who are you texting?"
Ugh! My dad always does this. Why does he need to know who I'm texting?
-
People texting "Hi" without a purpose
Appropriate times to text "Hi":
- If a friend comes online and you want to get their attention and/or start a conversation
- If somebody texts "hi"
And that's pretty much it. You don't need to randomly enter a chat and text "hi" just because no one sent a message in the past few hours.
-
People putting "lol" or "haha" in every sentence
-
People dry texting
-
People using unofficial abbreviations
Please, just say what you need to say. Don't make me decode it.
