What people call transabled identity refers to a form of identity that is similar to transgender identity. It consists of an individual who identifies with some aspect of themselves other than the aspects they were born with. In this case, they identify as having a medical condition they were not born with.
However, while transgender identity (and, one could even say, transracial identity) can be cited as being valid based on the flexible or amorphous boundaries that define gender and race, there are several concerns people cite when questioning whether transabled identity is valid.
