Egnomac's Anime Review I My Me Strawberry Eggs
egnomac Its Egnomca here again to do something a bit different I will be reviewing an anime series that for the most part almost no one really talks about and that is I My Me Strawberry Eggs.The Story
So what is I My Me Strawberry Eggs all about well this 13 part anime series that centers on a young man Hibiki Amawa who aspires to be a professional teacher as he attempts to get hired at a nearby private school Seito Sannomiya the only problem is that the head principal Chieko Sannomiya refuses to hire him as she refuses to hire men as she has a huge prejudice against men and does not believe they are not capable to teach at her school. Making matters worse he has no money to pay the rent to his landlord Lulu Sanjo who not only threatens to kick him out but make his dog Kurage her dinner however in spite of this she does help him out with his situation by getting him to cross dress as a woman to get hired as a teacher so he can pay his rent and keep Kurage safe. He manages to fool everyone and pass his first trial by helping one of the students Fuko Kuzuha a selfless but kind girl. Though Hibiki does get hired he still has ways to go to prove that he's a capable teacher.
Other characters in the series include the vice principal Reiko Mukagawa who is by far the worst a huge man hater who treats all the male students awfully and just about everything that comes out her mouth is spiteful and condescending. Morikoji and Tofu Koji the two other tenants who live at the Goshiso apartments Morikoji is a pervert who with a fascination for photographing female students uniforms along with Tofu Koji an old man who constantly likes to spy on the female students at the school the two are always up to no good though Lulu usually stop them in their tracks. Fujio Himejima a tomboy student whose friends with Fuko who really gets annoyed with other boys as well as Hibiki as a man and Morikoji and Tofu Koji when she suspects them of spying on them, the other main girls are Miho Umeda the more mature of the girls and Seiko Kasuganmichi a very quit girl who freaks out when she sees a naked man. As for the main male students there's Akira Fukai whose the leader of the main group of boys and there's also Kyosuke Aoki whose very energetic and takes a liking to Hibiki in drag and Shoichi Iwaya who is mostly just the third wheel of the group.
Throughout the series Hibiki does everything he can to prove that he can be a caring and a competent towards his students who he develops a great relationship with his students especially Fuko who over the course of the series begins having feeling for Hibiki as a woman which is really awkward not only because of the obvious age difference but because she's falling for him as a woman. Though Hibiki manages to fool everyone into thinking he's a woman the vice principal Reiko is suspicious of him when he lets his guard down and removes the choker he uses to sound like a woman to scare the boys who are plotting to spy on the girls during a physical exam as she was in the bathroom when he does this and she makes it her mission to prove he's a man in hopes that it will lead into the school being turned into an all girl school.
Here's quick run down of the episodes.
Episode 1: Desperate First Lipstick
The episode that starts the series as Hibiki with help from Lulu attempts to pass himself off as a woman and gets hired at the school as he passes his trial by helping Fuko.
Episode 2: Forbidden Narrow Eyeliner
Hibiki is ordered by the principal to temporary stay at the girls dormitory after a voyeur begins showing up there and Hibiki has to sleep in the same bed with Fuko which becomes really awkward for him, its later revealed that the voyeur was actually Tofu as the girls invade Gochiso and attack him and Morikoji.
Episode 3: Selfish Blush Magic
Hibiki attempts to introduce the girls to buruma's as an alternative to wearing long pleaded skirts during gym classes as they make it difficult for them to move around but faces an uphill battle as the principal strongly opposes to them as they are distracting towards the boys not to mention none of the girls want to wear them either.
Episode 4: Delicate Tear Concealer
Its parents weekend and and when its Hibiki's turn he asks the parents to join the class however Fuko doesn't have a parent who can attend as her father is away and her mother died when she was younger so Hibiki decides to lead her to her mother's grave so she can at least have a parent present during parents weekend even though she's obviously dead.
Episode 5: Wicked Dream Foundation
The school schedules a physical exam for the students and Vice Principal superstitious of Hibiki's true identity suggest he take one himself meanwhile the girls are worried about the exam as the year prior a student posted up a chart of all the girls busts sizes and the same could happen again as Akira, Kyosuke and Shoichi are planning to plant a microphone so they can get the results of their bust sizes and Fuko becomes so worried that she and other girls begin stuffing pads in their bras.
Episode 6: Fragile Powder Puzzle
Hibiki's class is in chaos as both the boys and girls group of friends are at odds with one another and Hibiki must find a way to get them to make up.
Episode 7: Longed for Complexion Toner
The school's director decides to play matchmaker and tries to set up his nephew to marry Hibiki and when Fuko and the others find out and actually think the directors nephew is gay with Hibiki as a man and try to stop the marriage
Episode 8: Rebellious Eyelash Curler Boys
When the vice principal suspects one of the boys of stealing her salary all the boys take over the school in protest for equal rights while holding the principal's priceless statue hostage and Hibiki must find a way to bring their protest to an end before they get into even further trouble.
Episode 9: A Midsummer's Night Sexy Glossy
Hibiki's class goes on a camping trip and some of the students become a little too forward in expressing their love for one another especially with Fuko who begins falling for Hibiki and Hibiki, later after finding out that Fujio and Akira who Fuji secretly crushes on were alone together the vice principal assumes the worst has happened as she assumes the two were fooling around which is the only way to put it as Hibiki stands up them assuring her they did nothing wrong as its later revealed by Lulu that nothing happened between Akira and Fujio as they were just trying to seek shelter from the rain.
Episode 10: Bemusing Love Palette
Following the camping trip Fujio tries to confess her feelings to Akira which doesn't go the way she was hoping it would go as she confesses to him that she likes him only for him to reject her as he already has a crush on Fuko who unfortunately has a crush on Hibki as he becomes conflicted as he too begins developing feeling for her.
Episode 11: Fragrance Heart to Adulthood
Following the last episode Fuko becomes worried and confused about her feeling for Hibiki and later goes missing which leads to Hibki and the other students to go looking for her only for Hibiki to find out she was visiting a fortune teller as the place catches fire as he tries to save Fuko but gets knocked out thankfully Lulu comes along and extinguishes the fire.
Episode 12: Cleansing Shock of Deception
After recovering from the hospital Vice Principal catches a photo of Hibiki out of drag and also catches a photo of him almost kissing Fuko when she came to visit him and she exposes his lie to everyone at the school during an assembly which leaves everyone including his student in shock as Hibiki leaves in disgrace as everyone is upset with the situation even Fuko who later is mocked by a couple of male students as they laugh at her for her possibly liking girls as Akira who was rejected by Fuko a couple of episodes back lashed out at them for being insensitive towards her feelings.
Episode 13: Someday, Without Make-Up as Promised
Flowing Hibiki's firing everyone has turned their back on him ignoring all the good he did despite lying about being a woman which is what Vice Principal was hoping for as she uses this to convince them to convert the school into an all girl school and at first everyone is on her side, meanwhile Hibiki now with no job decides to leave Gochiso as Lulu tells him of the situation at the school and how its going to affect his students however Hibiki is unwilling to do anything about it since his students no longer see him as their teacher and is not welcomed at the school. While their getting ready to make the decision wither the school becomes an all girl school or not at the last minute Lulu shows up reminding everyone that even though Hibiki lied about being a woman he was still a good teacher as Fuko and the others slowly realize this and defend him stopping them from turning the school into an all girls institution. Though they are successful with this and Hibiki becomes flattered for them defending him he still decides to leave and come back once he becomes a fully realized teacher which then leads to Fuko and the others to rush after him but are too late.
Overall I My Me Strawberry Eggs may have a weird name but its still a pretty good 13 episode series with a pretty good concept and memorable characters and I really got invested in the story as it had me wondering what's going to happen, I highly recommend it though its not for everyone.
