Top 10 Best Death Metal Songs
Metal perfection: fast, precise, awesome, catchy as a pop song. The coarse singing voice goes well with the overall brutality. This is what rock does when it's at its best.
One of my favorite songs, and Rammstein is not death metal. Lack of Comprehension is better than Feuer Frei. You can't compare Feuer Frei with Lack of Comprehension. Lack of Comprehension is better in all ways. Death is better than Rammstein in all ways.
I think Death has better songs, but this is the top Death song, so my vote goes with this song. Rammstein isn't even death metal. What the heck were people thinking? This list should be full of Morbid Angel and Death songs, otherwise, it isn't a good list.
I disagree with a lot of this list, especially the fact that half the choices are Death songs. Death is an amazing band and are the godfathers of tech death and many other subgenres. However, let's limit it to one or two songs, okay? (which should probably be Symbolic, Flesh, or Crystal Mountain). They don't own the entire genre anymore. As painful as it is to say, there are plenty of bands who have surpassed them by now.
There is one Cannibal Corpse song near the top, and it happens to be their best one. It's easily one of the most popular and catchy death metal songs of all time while remaining brutal as all hell. I'll take one of these, thank you very much.
Should be higher on the list. No wonder death metal is dead if more people think Death does death metal better than Carcass and Cannibal Corpse. I'm seriously confused...seeing other better death metal ranked so low. I think most of you are missing the title of "best death metal songs" and adding in your favorite metal songs. Look up Procreation of the Wicked Mortician version or anything from Infinite Annihilator.
One of the greatest and most complex death metal bands, in my opinion. From their tough solo riffs to their medical textbook lyrics, these guys do it with style and a class of their own.
Though my favorite Carcass song is Incarnated Solvent Abuse, Heartwork is still a massive banger of a song. It's definitely in my top 10 favorite melodic death metal songs for sure.
Deserves to be number 1. I'm sorry, but Cannibal Corpse is too generic, overrated, and boring. This is the stuff.
It's hard to pick a favorite: Symbolic and Sounds of Perseverance are such great albums... But Crystal Mountain has to be my all-time favorite death metal song: pure virtuosity. The vocals are aggressive, yet clearly audible. Chuck is probably the most intense death metal singer ever. Great progression, great riffs, and it has a progressive feel to it, musically. One of the best metal bands, all categories, and a true pioneer.
This is literally the greatest death metal song ever from the greatest death metal band ever. Please, just give this a listen. It has very good riffs, some of the most awesome clean guitar parts, and Chuck Schuldiner's solo is just beyond perfect. So, do yourself and me a favor and give this a listen before you listen to any of the songs mentioned here. Give this a listen before you die.
The solos in it make it a very unique song, and the vocals are just awesome, along with the fast drumming and kick pedals. And the lyrics and meanings are very awesome too, really :) It should be in the 1st spot. On another note: Children Of Bodom, In Flames, Amon Amarth are Melodic Death Metal, which is different from Death Metal.
This song is absolutely incredible. It is packed front-to-back with some of the best guitar riffs that I have ever heard, regardless of the genre, each one blowing your mind. This song really showcases Opeth's intricate and amazing musicianship, and is very dynamic.
And as for the vocals? Some may disagree, but as a true metalhead myself, I honestly think that Mikael Åkerfeldt has the best death growls in all of metal. Lyrically, it's a poetic masterpiece that only Mikael could write. More people really need to listen to this. I think that Opeth's music represents the epitome of quality musicianship, not to mention they can be heavy as balls and melt your face off at the same time. Opeth is an amazing band.
If Cannibal Corpse is death metal, this is classical music, but it isn't. This is death metal, and Cannibal Corpse is overrated trash.
Really strange how this song is not in the top tens?! I mean, the intro, the bass lines, guitar riffs, and the strong growls! It deserves a spot in the top tens for sure!
Hard to pick a single death metal song as the greatest - way too many - but Spirit Crusher has it all, and it's by the creator himself. The reason why we have this amazing genre in so many of its various forms. Saw them in Montreal in the mid-90s and although I never doubted his greatness, to see him pull off that music live was jaw-dropping. Only Megadeth were as technically perfect live in the Friedman/Rust in Peace days.
Death really showed the world that good death metal has to have a lot of musical soul. You can make metal and still create smart music. When Chuck Schuldiner died in 2001, every one of his fans was choked. One of the last things Chuck said was "All Hail Metal!" Death didn't care about how much money they made. They cared about creating intellectual and good music. R.I.P. Chuck Schuldiner. We miss you, and Death's music will live on forever.
This song deserves more respect. Death is a real death metal band. They showed the path to other bands. Come on, Chuck is the godfather of death metal. Without him, others wouldn't have made it so far.
While the other songs on this list are all great in their own ways, I feel like In Flames, and this song specifically, gave way to the greatness and the diversity that death metal would give way to. There are so many magical songs currently available, that have evolved far beyond aggression for the sake of aggression. This song is truly special.
The greatest song in melodic death metal deserves the top spot for me. It isn't pure brutality we seek, it's brutality through melody we want. And Only for the Weak personifies it. Kickass!
That's a perfect riff. It takes you by the guts from the very beginning till the end of the song. Every metalhead should know it.
Rammstein and death metal! Sorry dude, start some death metal lessons. I don't listen to death metal much, but this song blows my mind.
Behemoth, isn't that blackened death? Anyway, great song by a great band. Even though it is melodic death, it is still my favorite death metal band and song.
Kick-ass! In Flames and Lamb of God is no way Death metal. Nor is Needled 24/7 death metal. Has anybody heard Behemoth?
Nothing defeats this song and album. How it was created is just mysterious. Every instrument was played perfectly, and every part just mesmerizes the listener. Recorded back before all the silly prog/fusion hysteria set in and ruined brutal, bludgeoning genuine death metal. It was never ever duplicated. #1!
Great song, amazing riffs, especially the one before the chorus, also really the Rick and Chuck's respective solos on the song, really cool and fun. Death is a great band all around, easily the best DM band of all time.
Yup, Chuck indeed.
Why only top 10? For me, it's the best death metal song ever!
I think this song deserves more.
Phobophile was the best song of None So Vile, no doubt a masterpiece. With Lord Worm on vocals and Flo on drums, and even a bass and piano solo within the first minute, it's undoubtedly the most technical death metal piece out there.
Cryptopsy at its best, not the new deathcore version. Wild vocals, insane drumming, and unforgettable guitar riffs.
The best Technical Brutal Death Metal song ever, and the best Canadian Death metal band ever!
Some say Necrophagist is grindcore, but for me, it's pure technical death metal. Also, this song should be number two; Fermented Offal Discharge should be at the top!
It's not grindcore. It's technical death metal.
Pure tech death gold. It should be higher on the list, and Only Ash Remains should be in the top 10 as well (or Diminished to Be).
Alexei forever! Yeah, it's not as famous as Metallica or Iron Maiden, etc., but it is very cool and gives us a new taste in the world of music. Every metalhead should give it a try.
Well, it's a great song, but oddly one of the least "death metal" songs COB has produced. Alexi even has near-clean vocals in there. Whatever, COB rules.
It may not be "true" death metal as it falls under melodic, but the sheer force of this song and its innovative sounds makes it truly godlike!
This is my theme song. It explains exactly how I feel inside. Angela Gossow is my role model. It's a brilliant message and one hundred percent true. Arch Enemy will always be a part of me.
My anthem! I love this song! Angela Gossow is amazing!
This song is amazing.
Purely amazing death metal.
A very good song.
That insidious laugh at the beginning before the drummer loses his sanity - goodness!
It's one of those songs that never gets old. Even after hundreds of listens, I still keep coming back for more. That's how great the song (and Morbid Angel) is.
The most death metal song I've ever heard!
There is a reason that the genre is called death metal. Chuck will forever remain the master and commander of this. RIP, you are truly exceptional.
This song is epic! Great riffs, drums, vocals. The song is also very progressive and melodic, but still really powerful. Simply the best death metal song.
Touch, taste, breathe, consumed!
This song should be #1! When I am trying to listen to the hardest of the hard at work, this song always hits the peak in a mix of Nile, Necrophagist, Amon Amarth, and more. I love how the list has non-death metal in it.
Eaten is, in my opinion, Bloodbath's best song. It's such an earworm, and the lyrics are super psychotic and super epic at the same time. The best part is that you can actually understand what he's saying.
Amazing, simply amazing. Although quite possibly Melodic Death Metal is my favorite genre of metal, alas, it is not Death Metal. This here, Bloodbath, is as death metal as it gets.
The entire album is a death metal masterpiece.
Pure death metal at its finest.
You can absolutely hate death metal and still love this one. Intelligent, catchy, and brutal all at the same time. The vocal delivery is outstanding and highly effective.
Note: A 'jigsore' is a jigsaw puzzle. The song is about piecing a dead body back together after it's been mutilated and divided into many parts. The reason for the odd spelling is probably to poke humor at their (Carcass band members) Scouse English accents.
One of the most death metal songs by Carcass. This is not necessarily better than Heartwork, but it is more death metal than Heartwork.
In my opinion, the greatest death metal album of all time as well. Great song.
Death may be the first death metal band. But Cannibal Corpse have taken the sub-genre into new boundaries. And it's a great death metal song. I have never listened to Death. But after listening to Cannibal Corpse, I can say, Death Metal could never be better than that. And in my opinion, this deserves a way higher position above many non-death metal songs. And yes, I like Make Them Suffer more than Hammer Smashed Face.
If you're talking about death metal, Cannibal Corpse is the best...
Short, but sick.
