Top 10 Actresses Who Should Have Been Nominated for Oscar
When it comes to the Oscars, not every great performance gets the recognition it deserves. Sometimes, the Academy overlooks work that leaves audiences in awe, sparking debates among movie lovers for years.
This list is all about those actresses who delivered standout performances that deserved a nomination but didn't get one.
-
Jennifer Lawrence - The Hunger Games
-
Helena Bonham Carter - Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
-
Winona Ryder - Edward Scissorhands
-
Angelina Jolie - Maleficent
-
Madonna - Evita
She trained for more than a year to learn how to sing in a new way, which takes serious work, in the words of her former backup singer. She discovered how to use her head voice to sing 90 percent of the music in its original key.
She looked like a movie star and was both breathtaking and soulful with brown eyes. She showed a side of herself she rarely reveals, her vulnerability. She was pregnant while filming and thinking of her mother during the final broadcast. This was probably one of the most challenging and demanding roles for any actor that year, and she proved the naysayers wrong.
She did something no other actress could do. She made a Broadway soundtrack sound pop, lyrical, and accessible. Her mezzo-soprano singing was nuanced, lyrical, tender, and endlessly listenable. I was so proud of her, and I fell in love with Madonna in the Evita role.
But the Academy tends to punish women and disgustingly ignore women of color. The Oscar itself is pagan worship, but it's the Super Bowl of films. She even ignored the caddy disdain from that hack Andrew Lloyd Webber, who should thank her for making Evita watchable. No one else could have done it better. Bravo Madonna!

Neve Campbell - Scream
-
Kristen Stewart - Still Alice
-
Emma Stone - Easy A
-
Uma Thurman - Kill Bill
-
Sharon Stone - Basic Instinct
She and Emma Thompson were literally the only remembered performances of that year. How could she not be nominated?
YES! She was so good and hot in that role. She was so convincing.
Can't believe her performance didn't make the cut in the least memorable year of the '90s.
-
?
Amy Adams - Arrival
I was really surprised when I found out she wasn't nominated. She was definitely robbed.
-
?
Idina Menzel - Frozen 2
-
Marilyn Monroe - Some Like It Hot
And Niagara, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Misfits, How to Marry a Millionaire, Asphalt Jungle, River of No Return, and maybe even Clash by Night and Bus Stop - all great performances. Certainly, she should have one, at least, one Oscar.
Best supporting for sure. Punishing her bad behavior on set by withholding a nomination was not only cruel but nasty.
-
Michelle Pfeiffer - Batman Returns
-
Mandy Moore - A Walk to Remember
It was more of a teen movie and not something that would usually get nominated. That's why she didn't get nominated, even though she deserved to be at least nominated.
She should be nominated for an Oscar for this film because of the way she played the role of Jamie Sullivan. It's unforgettable.
-
Sandra Bullock - In Love and War
-
Hilary Swank - Freedom Writers
-
Michelle Pfeiffer - White Oleander
-
Sigourney Weaver - The Ice Storm
-
Michelle Pfeiffer - Up Close & Personal
-
Pam Grier - Jackie Brown
Pam is a '70s icon who is known for her extreme beauty as well as her powerhouse acting. Her role in Jackie Brown received rave reviews, and many were shocked she didn't receive an Oscar nomination.
This performance was one of the biggest snubs ever. I'm not African American, but I can truly say she deserved the Oscar for her performance in Jackie Brown.
-
Monica Bellucci - Malena
Monica deserves an Oscar for her performance in this movie. Chanceless. Bold and beautiful in the real sense. Mind-blowing... she rocks.
-
Winona Ryder - Girl, Interrupted
-
Demi Moore - Ghost
As to why her peers cannot see how great an actress Demi is, is simply beyond comprehension. Demi Moore is a really awesome actress.
Demi Moore has gone in bad movies, but Ghost is just awesome. Not only for the great performance of Whoopi Goldberg and her chemistry with Swayze, but also Moore was everything. She cried, laughed, and made us feel the way she did. She deserved much more than what she got.
Those jerks of the Academy have nominated that baby-faced JLaw 3 dang times and she even won one, but Demi Moore in Ghost was snubbed?! What?
-
Kathy Bates - Dolores Claiborne
This is a Best Actress-worthy role. I can't really think of any other actress that could have played this role as well as she did. To me, Kathy has always been underrated even though she has an Oscar to her name.
-
Milla Jovovich - .45
-
Meg Ryan - When a Man Loves a Woman
