Top 10 Best Animated Movie Sequels of the 2000s
Since this list wasn't already made, I'm creating it. I already made the best animated movie sequels of the 2010s decade, so why not just make the 2000s as well?
With that being said, here is the list.
-
Shrek 2
As a child, this was one of my favorite movies of all time. And I still consider it to be a masterpiece. It's not the best Shrek movie, but it's the second best.
The story has got to be one of the best. It's incredibly original and shows you that some people won't be happy with who you are, and some people will try their hardest to change you. But in fact, you should be yourself anyway, because that's who you really are.
Great message, and not to mention how stunning and colorful the settings are. So memorable and deserves a spot.
Shrek 2 is what a great sequel should be, and it's almost as good as the original Shrek.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
The Ice Age franchise is remarkably known for being a cash cow series. It's actually the only CGI animated movie series so far to have had a whopping four sequels, or five installments if you prefer to put it that way.
People surely have a lot of opinions about the Ice Age series, but what most people agree on is that the first three movies were classics, and it got bad after that. Well, I think 4 is the best, but this third entry with dinosaurs is surely a close second for me. Just the fact that it's centered around dinosaurs is enough to make it awesome.
Some will say that makes the movie unoriginal, since it's set in the Ice Age, but I don't really mind that much because the way it's executed is alright. I love the jungle theme, and a lot of the dinosaurs look awesome. Also, don't forget how awesome Buck is.
Overall, it's the second-best Ice Age movie and the second-best animated sequel released in the 2000s decade.

Ice Age: The Meltdown
The second Ice Age movie appears to be the least talked about in the franchise. Most people rank it in the middle of their Ice Age rankings, but honestly, this movie is actually awesome. Yes, I would also place it at #3 in my Ice Age ranking, but that's beside the point.
This probably had the most realistic plot in the series. Yes, the idea that everyone lived in one bowl surrounded by water was kind of strange. I mean, how did they get there? But the whole concept isn't all that bad, as the Ice Age did end at one point, and you can really feel the terror that's coming in this movie with the whole flooding plot.
The "villains," while random and not really villains, are in my opinion awesome. It's really just because of how badass they look. It's two carnivorous fish: Cretaceous, a blue crocodile-like fish with fins, and Maelstrom (my favorite), a fat green pliosaur who can smash ice. I love how one is green and the other blue because these colors fit so well together.
Overall, this movie is #5 on the list.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
This is one of the most nostalgic movies ever in my opinion, along with Hotel Transylvania, Shrek 2, and the first two Toy Story movies.
I mean, looking back, it certainly isn't that good. And fun fact: when I first saw it, I hated it. But at the same time, I had the most nostalgia for it, and when I rewatched it the first time, I loved it. Now it's just great.
But seriously, this is the best Madagascar movie. While it's a lot less talked about than the other two entries, I felt this movie had the absolute best setting. I really love the African savannahs, and it especially fits considering the cast consists of African animals.
The first one was set on a tropical island (Madagascar), and the third one was in Europe. Please no. This is the purest movie of them all.

Kronk's New Groove

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
In my opinion, this movie deserves the top spot. I've always been a fan of the Wallace and Gromit series by Aardman. They are fun, beautiful, and impressive.
Now, some may not think this movie deserves to be on the list since it's the only full-length Wallace and Gromit movie, but it still is the fourth Wallace and Gromit movie overall. I need to pad this list out with items, so yeah. All of the other movies are short films, except for this one, which is a long film and was actually released by DreamWorks.
You might say that this technically is a sequel, as it's the fourth installment in the Wallace and Gromit series. This is the only one by DreamWorks, and it works as a standalone movie as well. I'm a huge fan of this movie, and it might be my favorite Wallace and Gromit movie overall. I loved the story, characters, and charm this movie has.
It was the first one I ever saw, and it bears tons of nostalgia. It's my favorite one on this list.

Shrek the Third
One of the most underrated animated movie sequels ever, in my opinion.
Yeah, the Shrek franchise is pretty dead and irrelevant at this point, but it will still be remembered as a great series. The third entry is my favorite, as this movie just felt more interesting and had a much darker tone than the previous two entries. It's not the most depressing of the series (that goes to the fourth one), but it's quite depressing.
The story was also pretty cool. It has an incredibly meaningful message and plot because some people just aren't fit to be king, like Shrek. I also loved the fact that Prince Charming was the villain. He was a pretty cool character in the second one, and he gets even more personality in this one, which is awesome.
