#1 for me:
1) in 1969 they played Concerto for Group and Orchestra with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Metallica did it 30 years later with The San Francisco Symphony (S&M live album);
2) while the other rock bands used blues idioms to write hard/heavy music, Deep Purple tried something different - in some songs they used classical music base, this way creating the template for what is now known as metal music;
3) Ritchie Blackmore played the first true metal solo;
4) Ian Gillan was the first metal screamer, and so on. - Metal_Treasure
