Glyn Johns is one of the most prolific producers and recording engineers in British history, having worked with The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and many others. After Pete Townshend was devastated by his inability to finish writing the Lifehouse rock opera, Glyn Johns convinced him that some of the songs could still work as an ordinary album. Glyn co-produced, engineered, and mixed the album. He also worked on every album afterwards until "It's Hard" (the only exception being "Face Dances").
