Top 10 Music Trends That Need to Disappear in the 2020s

The Top Ten
1 SoundCloud rap

The pioneers died just as fast as they arrived and now they're being replaced by talentless rappers

2 Hi-hats

They're just over used at this point in my opinion. I like songs with variation in them

3 Songs that objectify women

With the #MeToo movement becoming more and more important, these lyrics could be deemed unacceptable in the next few years, hopefully soon. Seriously, who else isn't tired of hearing songs where the artists refer to women's curves or even their private parts? Or songs that glorify sexual assault/date rape? These songs should simply be banned.

The problem is, a lot of female musicians glorify it.

4 AutoTune

I'm sick and tired of singers always using AutoTune, especially when they want to get personal or sing about hard topics. The message has to come from the heart, not the machine. Plus, it makes me wonder if most of those singers can actually sing. That trend really needs to die down as soon as possible.

Autotune doesn't make a singer sounding better. In fact, it makes singers sounding too robotic and unnatural. Especially some rappers use it too much. Let's hope there won't be too much autotune used in 2020. It's a waste of actual singing talent.

AutoTune just sounds unsatisfying (unless done right), I'd rather hear people use their natural voice, even if it's bad.

I've never liked it and I never will. I love actual singing and talent, and he sad hung is that some artists who use it might actually have some. The sound of autotune is so artificial. I hate ig

5 Heavy sampling of well-known songs

In some ways it can be creative and a great way to introduce classics to the new generation, however there are some cases where it can completely ruin the original song.

Seriously, does anybody create their own songs anymore? Sure you may appreciate some old tunes, but that won't make your songs any better.

It it improve the song, I don't care. Plus, it would help obscure song get more attention.

It's been use since 1960s. It's not going too die soon.

6 “I'm ballin'“

These lyrics have been overheard in the past few years.

Likely Banned of course

Go away please

7 DJ Mustard

Not a trend though just one producer. Or do you mean specifically the trend of the producer giving his name at the start (I agree this is annoying and unnecessary).

Who else is tired of hearing "Mustard on the beat, hoe! " among other producer gimmicks at the beginning of some songs?

8 Latin trap
9 Songs About Butts

Songs like Anaconda, Bubble Butt, Booty, Twerk, Wobble Up, Mo Bounce are very repetitive, and annoying. They're not creative and they get old pretty fast.

I don't think anyone wants to hear people singing about posteriors. Especially when they're eating.

I agree, booty songs are becoming tired. But this has to go in the "Songs that objectify women" part.

10 Trap-pop

Trap-pop has been so overused lately and it's starting to get old.

Edit: it's has pretty much faded away as of now.

Trap-pop can be used creatively too, like Madonna's Madame X.

Remember when people said the same about electro-pop?

Nobody cares about Trap music genre, enough about this genre today

The Contenders
11 Mumble rap

This is one of the reason people hate rap.

This music genre is overrated genre and overheard in the past years

12 Tiktok Music

Same as sampling of well-known songs. I guess you could call this musical decade the "TikTok era" since it has great impact on the music industry.

Most songs that get popular thanks to TikTok are just creatively hollow. Although there may be a few good songs to emerge from this platform, it has definitely affected contemporary music in terms of creativity.

It's annoying when songs get popular from TikTok. But, it can introduce people to old or obscure songs.

13 “Urban“ guests in pop songs

Why do so many pop artists have to invite hip-hop/R&B artists in their singles? Back in the 90s when Mariah Carey did it, it was groundbreaking, but lately it has been used ad nauseum and seems phoned in. Case and point: "Beautiful Mistakes" by Maroon 5 featuring Megan Thee Stallion, which is obviously a cheap knockoff of "Girls Like You" and its version that features Cardi B. In other words, it's a tired trend that needs to stop.

When I hear Urban, it's just R&B and Hip-hop. Then nowadays, the famous pop song today sounds like generic R&B and hip hop. So, this is the reason why this item exists.

Forget it! The only best thing that we are could have been to get rid of is staying away from this music with "Urban" guests

Why bother with "Urban" guests on pop songs? I might be go bring back with non urban guests on pop songs

14 I used to be broke and now I'm rich

"#6: DJ Mustard
#7: "I'm ballin'"
#12: I used to be broke and now I'm rich"
Is this list partially based on 'Ballin' by Mustard ft. Roddy Ricch?
If so I disagree with you implying that it's a bad song, that song is a lot of fun and easily the best rap hit of the year.

Nobody cares about your journey, there's no need to mention it in each and every of your songs.

A Big No for sure

15 EDM Cover Songs

That trend started with "Fast Car" by Jonas Blue and has been used ad nauseum ever since. "Fast Car" was okay but most cover songs released after that were just boring and brought nothing new to the original. Nowadays, cover songs are mostly cash-grabs. The same thing goes to sampling a well-known song.

Oh I have heard "Higher Love" (which I like) as for the next part I'm from New Zealand but I have listened to the radio very little in the past few years.

16 Bro-Country

This genre is not as popular as it used to be but I feel like it's making an unfortunate comeback because of Morgan Wallen (I'm ashamed a guy who said a racial slur is still at #1 on the Billboard 200). Florida Georgia Line have released a new album but from what I've seen it's tanking. I just hope that such country singers just won't dominate the 2020s as they tend to embody everything unlikable about country music.

This genre is rapidly becoming worst than Hip Hop music and Lazy Pop

17 “Dolphin effect“ voice-processing

I don't hear it much these days.

We hope to bring back the real singing vocals to the voice processing soon than Dolphin effect ones

18 Lazy EDM

Mainstream EDM has entered an identity crisis. All of the songs sound the same and rely on the same clichés that make it so boring today. Luckily Porter Robinson has released an excellent new album. Let's hope it will shift the EDM landscape.

19 Albums with too many guests

Who else is tired of listening to albums with too many guests like Ed Sheeran's Number 6 Collaboration album or something?!

20 Ad-libs in hip hop

Another terrible yet stupid thing in music industry. Already is in the process to be disappear

21 Being controversial to stay relevant
22 Slow, dramatic renditions of classic songs for movie trailers

Not only movies, but Tiktok kids make it way worse to just play a slowed song in the background thinking they achieved the highest level of talent.

These versions feel so phoned in these days and kill the spirit of the original songs.

Yes! I thought I was the only one!

23 Songs about wealth

Too much wealth on music and overrated type of songs in the past decade

24 Hypersexualized female rappers
25 Drops
