Top 10 Best R&B Love Songs
I think this song is a double entendre. Beyond the straightforward meaning, I believe it's a song about Nelly's love for hip-hop. He was once "at the top" of the rap game, but then his career faded - "now I'm in the basement." He used to be at the "number one" spot, but after he stopped rapping, "she found her a replacement," meaning someone else took his place.
When he says "should have got that ring," a lot of artists say they are "married" to the game. The rest of the song expresses how he took his rap career for granted, fell into the hype, and lost what it really meant. Without it, he feels like nothing. He wants to be back in the rap game and wants people to accept him again as an artist - "so I travel back down that road, will she come back, no one knows."
I could keep explaining my opinion, but if you think of his rap career as the subject of the song, and know Nelly's ups and downs, you might see where I'm coming from. But still, best song out of the top ten - that's why I voted for it.
